Too much chaos, if you ask me. I’m Chris, and I’m stuck in the Inbetween. It’s kinda my fault, I did jump, but I didn’t expect this. I don’t know what I was expecting… but now I’m the cat curiosity is trying to kill – or, at least, I can be. Turns out I’m a Bone Magician. The last Bone Magician. And there’s a prophecy, because of course there is, and the deadline is my 16th birthday, because of course it is! I did not pack enough brownies for this mission. But there are good things too. Did I mention AJ? Have you met AJ? You need to meet AJ. He’s going to teach me magic, and we’re going to save the world. But we’ve only got a week to do it. Wanna help?
Kate Haley is a speculative fiction author who works predominantly in fantasy and horror.
While currently content to fill their days with writing and table-top RPGs, their grander plans involve world domination. Something akin to the tyranny of the greatest city atop the Disc would be an acceptable standard. They believe a super-villainous overlord would be an upgrade, given that our current villains lack style and imagination. After all, super-villainy requires Presentation.

Chris Arrow gets by in life on a combination of sass and vegan chocolate peanut butter brownies, and saving the world is no different
Welcome to the Inbetween is a fun YA quest, full of adventure and wry teenage wit. The book has a light-hearted tone, but the author still manages to address some deeper issues.
An excellent and well written story about magic, magical creatures and a teen that never felt they fit in with the world. Great descriptions of characters, the environment they live in and a great flow of the story. Can certainly have a number of sequels to quench the thirst of this reader.
Ever felt like you didn’t fit in? Unnoticed? Unimportant, just too different? Meet Chris. Not your typical teen, they struggle to find their place; struggle enough to do something totally crazy on a school trip. Crazy enough to take them, well, totally out of this world - and into a place where their special talents finally start to make sense. Fast-paced and full of engaging characters, this sensitively written fantasy novel explores identity, belonging and finding your place in the worlds. Written for teen audiences, it is a great read for all lovers of the fantasy genre.
A delight - great characters, world-building, plot
This fresh, imaginative story has it all - heart, complex characters, a dangerous mission, falling in love, action, two fascinating alien cultures, magic, reality, friendship, and Chris' amazing confrontation with their father.
A really feel good read about adventure, shapeshifting, worldjumping, magic, and love. The main character Chris is absolutely relatable while still being basically a superhero. My heart warmed reading this.
A pacifist vegan boy/girl goes on an other-world adventure. Strong characters, good movement to the story, interesting juxtaposition of new racial issues. I loved this book. Good luck to Chris!
