Thank you to Random House Kids for providing me a copy of this book!
Oh, my heart. This illustrated book is so perfect as a gift for graduates or if you just need a dose of daily inspiration. I wasn't expecting it to be so geared toward adults. It gave me such a major throwback to when I was just a little Thai kid, reading Sesame Street books to brush up on my English reading skills. Since this book is celebrating Sesame Street's 50th anniversary, there were TONS of illustrations from decades ago. It gave me so much nostalgia, and I found myself giggling so many times. This book is filled with so much good and reminds us to not just be kind to others, but also to ourselves.
Love the Fur You're In was such a delightful book! It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the long-running children's program, arguably the greatest television show of all-time. It also made a stamp with the books that they published, most notably The Monster at the End of the Book featuring Grover. This book is a compilation of pages from different books published under the Sesame Street umbrella and fitting words of wisdom.
Two of my favorites include:
1.) A picture of Elmo drawn by Elmo carrying a large stack of books that reminds us that "There is no such thing as too many books."
2.) A picture of Biff and Sully putting up a wooden fence, though the wood looks a bit crooked and reminds us that "Done is better than perfect."
This book is one that you can zip right through and then dip in and out of if you are looking to immerse yourself with assuring advice. You also get a good dose of many of your favorite Sesame Street characters and a great compilation of the books in which they appeared through the years.
Perfect for Sesame Street fans! Full of wonderful sayings and tidbits of advice. The one that was me- Elmo and “There’s no such thing as too many books”. I love books and this is a new kids fav
Such a sweet children’s book celebrating the lessons we’ve learned from Sesame Street. I imagine it took some time to compile all of these images from various artists published previously in books 1971-2011. There’s a listing in the back of the book with each artist’s name by page and which book it came from along with the publication year.
It’s a fun book to flip through for basic life lessons and reminders.
A few of my favorites: — You’re always welcome on Sesame Street — If news spreads fast, make it good news (with illustrations of monsters on the phone) — There’s no such thing as too many books — You’re never too old for story time — Always wear clean underwear
I purchased this book and plan to keep it in my guest room.
Nostalgia seems to get stranger and more potent the older I get. Experiencing it in ways I don't expect. This book was given to me by my mother upon my graduation. At the age of 35. What I didn't expect is how this seemingly children's book is actually geared for adults, for the kids who have outgrown Sesame Street. The flashback artwork definitely had my feelings going, but the simple wisdom with the pictures was a nice reminder of the kind of lessons that Jim Henson tried to teach his audience.
That, and Grover has always been, and will always be, my favorite.
Since I grew up with Sesame Street, I just had to reach for this one when I saw it at the library. This was a delightful, insightful and lovely read. I could easily buy this and read/look at it over and over. It would make a great gift for a child, a high school/college graduate or an adult friend. The illustrations are fantastic and nostalgic. I like that there is a reference on each page and that many different illustrators were utilized/referenced throughout the book. Super quick read but full of life's most basic yet crucial wit and wisdom - straight from Sesame Street 💛.
My 1 year old makes me read this 112 page book at least twice a day, can't skip a page. Since I have read it at least 50 times this year, this deserves to be my 50th book to close out the year, 😂
All of the pages come from other books, with various cute sayings of life advice. There is a lot of variety in art quality and phrase quality from page to page, but some of them are absolutely adorable, and the original book is referenced on each page.
Ok, what’s not to like about a book staring Sesame Street characters? Oh, I don’t know, maybe the mention of 50 years! Yikes. That’s unbelievable. Sesame Street taught this Mama what casa means. And I’m sure the show brings up lots of different memories for you too.
Love The Fur You’re In will quickly find a way into your heart whether you’re familiar with Sesame Street or not. The easy-to-read sentence that accompanies each picture makes the book perfect for early readers as well as older . . . well, kid-like-adults who want to read quickly but at the same time experience the emotions that the book promotes.
Some of the pages include these saying:
If news spreads fast, make it good news. There’s no such thing as too many books. A good friend makes it all better.
And of course, each page has our favorite characters illustrating what the sentence says.
What Concerned Me Unless too much smiling is a problem, nothing bothered me.
What I Liked Best Memories. Memories. And more memories. Sesame Street felt like the leader of the pack in making learning fun. The book is great for little ones and as a gift to older, and then much older kid-adults. I loved it. More reviews: https://pickagoodbook.com
Do you really believe that you're going to receive "Wise and witty advice from Sesame Street"? Especially when this book title refers to what?
The title of a TV show is presented without either quotes or italics. So that "Sesame Street" might be just another road in your neighborhood.
Has Random House fired their editors?
Goodreaders, you'll have to be the judge, whether the little quotes on every page are really wit, or wisdom, or worth illustrating.
Actually, I find the illustrations a heck of a lot better than the quotes. Here are three examples of the Wit and wisdom on offer:
* Physics 101 really is important! * A good friend checks your tail feathers for you. * You're never too old for story time.
RATING THIS BOOK
My policy is to rate books in terms of the intended readers.
I'm guessing that, for this title, these intended readers are a little slow on the uptake, and will consider every trite statement an absolute revelation.
So FIVE STARS it is. Personally, rather than read this collection of feelgood fuzziness, I'd rather chew a piece of shirt cardboard.
A beautifully composed book bursting with vintage Sesame Street artwork, culled from their various publications over the last fifty years. The cover shot is from the iconic The Monster at the End of This Book (1971), one of my personal favorites as a kid.
Each illustration is labeled with its original title and artist. There is a heavy emphasis on older (pre-1990s) work, for those of us who enjoyed the vintage characters and Street. Looking at this beautiful presentation makes me want to find some of these books, especially The Day The Count Stopped Counting (1977). Highly recommend for the Sesame Street enthusiast!
I loved this little book. I’d call it more of a “coffee table book,” since there’s really not a storyline. This book brings together artwork from Sesame Street books from the 70s through today, and adds to the artwork an inspirational saying/motto. The best part of this book is the art, including all of our favorite furry friends!
I read this book in under 30 minutes, but I know I’ll flip through it again before returning it to the library! It was fun to see what Sesame Street books we’d already read and knew the artwork from, and which we should look for!
A beautiful collection of illustrations from Sesame Street books over the years with life advice. I just love it, and felt quite a bit sentimental when I went through each and every page. Grover has always been my favorite (since birth! 😂), as he was my first toy and I still have him and a collection of other Grover and Grover books! This would make a sweet gift for anyone who also loves Sesame Street.
This is a lovely tribute to celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary. Each page features classic art from Sesame Street books from the 1970s through the 2000s. Some of the pieces from the 70s and 80s were really nostalgic for me. Sesame Street was ALWAYS on when I was a kid and I vividly remember so much from both the show and the books.
This is one of those books which brought a smile to me on every page. The wisdom is sweet, sometimes silly, and sometimes even profound, and oh, the wonderful Sesame Street illustrations are terrific. They bring back a lot of good memories of when our kids were young and we watched the show on PBS and read a lot of the books together.
love this book a lot, lots of little wisdom in here. love the illustrations being from sesame street books from throughout 50 years! i love how the wisdom/reminders/advice is geared towards adults as well. it's an amazing book that goes deep yet feels lighthearted. glad to start the year off with this book! will likely read this monthly because it has rly awesome little reminders. grover is my favorite sesame street character as well. named my family dog after him when i was 10. he was 1, he's almost 12 now! my mom got me this book at costco when i was 19 and i loved it when i first read it in 2021. love the front cover because it is from the monster at the end of this book which is one of my favorite sesame street stories.
Sesame Street raised me. I loved the archived illustrations that ranged from the 70's up until now. And the positive mantras touched all the feels. If you too were raised by Sesame Street, give this book a gander.
Absolutely. Stinking. Adorable. I grew up owning many of these books from the 70s-90's, and so what a fun nostalgia trip seeing all the wonderful illustrations!!! Definitely one I will think about buying!!! ^^
