Zoe’s spent her life playing it safe, but when she inherits a tiny cabin in the Scottish Highlands, she decides it’s time to shake things up. Goodbye, boring London life. Hello, adventure! What could possibly go wrong?
Only everything.
Her 'cozy' new home has no running water or electricity, the roof leaks like a sieve, and the front door is... missing. And then there’s her new neighbor – Rory. A scorchingly hot, grumpy man-bear who wants her gone.
Rory has zero patience for distractions. If he can’t make Kinloch Castle profitable, he’s out of a job. All he wants is peace and quiet in the cabin he loved as a child. Instead, it’s been invaded by a one-woman chaos machine and turned into a DIY disaster zone. Worse? She’s infuriatingly attractive.
Rory needs Zoe out of Scotland, and out of his life. The trouble is, she has no intention of leaving.
Let the games begin…

"A life half lived is a life not lived at all." Can we please reflect on this sentence for a second or two? Because it applies to everything in this book, and especially to its main characters.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with Scotland, and it only got worse after I went there. So... I kind of saw this book, read the blurb, and had to read it. Evie Alexander trusted me with an ARC of it, and I couldn't be happier.
Let me tell you - this is romantic comedy at its finest. I was already laughing hard in the first chapter! And it's also sweet, with moments that will make you go 'awww', and other moments where I definitely decided I want to live in a cabin in the highlands of Scotland. And I'm definitely not the outdoor type!
"His eyes were pools of endless darkness and blue fire, drawing her to her doom." Rory really is something. He has the physique of a Norse god, and he's grumpy just the way I like it, but he's so sweet and caring underneath it all that it's hard sometimes to see him as grumpy at all. He's living in Kinloch, and looking forward to some peace and quiet at the secluded cabin in the woods, until he finds someone else living there.
"She was more beautiful than any sunrise or sunset could ever be." Zoe is amazing! I had so much fun with her! I love her little quirks, and how easygoing, wonderfully simple and low-maintenance she is. It's honestly a breath of fresh air! She's an accountant living in the big city, but once her great-uncle Willie dies and leaves her a cabin, she decides it's time to change her life.
And that cabin becomes a bone of contention, which leads to some pretty funny moments between the two of them.
"I don't like you. I want you. I crave you. I hunger for you. Everything you are, and everything you do drives me crazy." Rory and Zoe's meet cute was hilarious. I'm not giving anything away, because you should really read this, but the two of them and all the pushing and pulling is the stuff of rom-com dreams. The small things, like her nickname for him - I was laughing out loud. The way they resist their chemistry made me want to just push them together or something because they're infuriatingly perfect for each other!
At the same time, I also loved the small memories of Willie and how they both connect to him. It was heartwarming. Like he had sort of planned the whole thing somehow. Her childhood friends from the time she spent at Kinloch, and her interactions with them, are endearing as well.
"He wanted her smiles to belong to him. He wanted to kiss every freckle, name each one like a star." And look, it takes them a while, but once they finally get there – there's some pretty good steam here. I kind of wish there was more, maybe because I had a certain scene in my mind and that didn't happen (don't ask!), but they are really hot together.
"My head's so filled with you, there's no room for anything else. You're the only thing I see." This is a no-angst book that will make you smile and feel good, while surrounded by a Scottish atmosphere that can't be ignored. I was reading the lines with a Scottish accent in my mind, and it made it even better.
I can't believe this is Evie's debut novel, and I can't wait to read more of hers!
The cover was cute and called me to it. The inside was intriguing.
❄️Alaska lover? Welcome to Scotland. Okay, hear me out, I might say some weird things, but just go with it. If you're craving: * Alaska vibes but you've read all Alaska books * Alaska vibes but less atmosphere-heavy worldbuilding and more character moments → this might be a good pick for you.
👵🧒 The vibes... This book felt like it was somehow: - A coming-of-age story, and - An old ladies’ tale, filled with longing and lived experience There’s lust and attraction from the start, sprinkled with some enemies-to-lovers banter. Not easy to label, but that kind of made it more interesting.
🎧The Voice Behind the Pages I was gifted the audiobook by the author, and I appreciate that! What made it even more intriguing was that Evie narrated her own book. Now, that left me a little perplexed. On one hand, who better to breathe life into the characters than the person who created them? On the other, I found myself wondering... where does the author end and the character begin? That said, the audiobook was produced really well, and I genuinely hope more indie authors get the support and opportunities to bring their stories to life in this way.
🧺Good Company for Mundane Tasks I enjoyed listening to this while doing manual tasks, it made the experience much lighter and more enjoyable. I also listened to it fairly quickly, but I’ll admit I’m in a very receptive mood at the moment, so I think that helped balance out the story’s flow and pacing.
-- Pre-read: Craving a vacation, so I'll travel with Zoe to Scotland!✈️
Thank you to the author, Evie, for gifting me the e-book and audiobook. 🙏🎧
2.5 ⭐️ Cute but this story has absolutely nothing to do with Highland Games lol
"He wanted her smiles to belong to him. He wanted to kiss every freckle, name each one like a star."
WHAT TO EXPECT: ✨ rom-com ✨ scottish highland setting ✨ she's a city girl x accountant who inherited a run down cabin on a castle estate ✨ he's the local castle estate on-property manager determined to make her life hell so she leaves ✨ a not so meet cute ✨ insta lust ✨ denial of feelings/attraction ✨ dislike to love ✨ banter ✨ 2.5/5 🌶️ ✨ secrets, hidden identity ✨ family drama (MMC has big daddy issues) ✨ home renovations ✨ HEA
My Thoughts:
This story has everything I should love, but for some reason, I just didn't care for it. It wasn't poorly written or anything, and the story wasn't bad at all. But I didn't vibe with the writing style, nor did I connect with the MCs. I think a lot of this had to do with the fact that there wasn't a ton of dialogue between them. We were mostly in their minds and they were pining or lusting after each other, but then they were a bit rude or dismissive whenever they spoke to one another. I just don't love that dynamic because everything could be resolved with a bit of communication and them expressing their true feelings. To go along with this, it also felt like there was a lot of telling versus showing, especially because there's a lot of inner dialogue going on instead of action.
Zoe and Rory do have a ton of sexual chemistry so when they finally admit their attraction and jump each other's bones, it's explosive. The spice was spicing, but a tad unrealistic considering the fact he makes her orgasm three times within an hour (no dick involved) and then proceeds to bone her throughout the night. I mean, good for them, but I always roll my eyes whenever this sort of situations happens in romances.
Also, I don't feel like Zoe's laughing tic was introduced or expressed correctly. She isn't diagnosed with Tourette’s Pathological Laughter, which if you're going to have a character with Tourette's, I think it would have been better to establish a diagnosis or better relayed it to the reader early on. Her inappropriate laughing is introduced 8% into the story but Zoe describes it as her default reaction to stressful social situations. That's all the explanation we get. So it just seems like she's just nervous and she just naturally laughs like others might sweat or turn red. But finally, at 50% into the story, she explains to Rory that her mom thinks it’s a form of Tourette's and it's impossible for her to control it. I just feel like her Tourette's (which she isn't even officially diagnosed with) should have been introduced to the reader in a more clear way so it doesn't feel like an afterthought or random part of her character that only comes up to create conflict in her relationship with Rory.

Highland Games follows Zoe as she makes a huge change in her life and moves from the city to a secluded cabin in Scotland. When Zoe inherits a beloved cabin from her great uncle, she throws caution to the wind and decides to move there. Armed with all of her belongings and a lot of hope, Zoe is excited to be back at the place where she has such fond childhood memories. However, she didn’t expect the cabin to be so in need of repair. Nor did she expect a gorgeous neighbor to be so unwelcoming.
Rory is stunned when he finds Zoe living in the cabin he hoped to call his own, but he is sure he can get this city girl to return where she surely belongs. However, the more he gets to know her, the more uncertain Rory is that Zoe isn’t exactly where she should be.
Equally romantic and steamy, the enemies-to-lovers love story between Rory and Zoe is fantastic. I love their banter, and whether they’re fighting or loving or just being together, their chemistry is off the charts. These are two people who were not looking for love, yet they can’t help but be drawn to each other. Some of their interactions are laugh-out-loud funny, while others are quite touching, and others are downright sexy. It’s a heartwarming and witty and well-developed love story.
Rory’s story is really interesting, and I like that we learn so much about him and what led to his situation. He hasn’t had the best life, and he seems emotionally worn down at the start of the story. I love that Zoe helps him find happiness again and seems to give him a new outlook on life.
Zoe has such an effervescent personality, and her zest for life is infectious. A woman who has been very influenced by her parents, Zoe is finally doing something for herself, and I love that she doesn’t get daunted by all of the challenges that come her way. She is a problem solver, and her determination and resilience are admirable.
I also love the found family aspect of the story. This is one of my favorite tropes, and Zoe’s found family is wonderful. Kind and supportive and really funny, they welcome Zoe back into their lives as if she’s never been gone. These are the people Zoe knows she can always depend on, and I loved their roles in the story.
The setting is another part of the story that I loved. Zoe reflects a bit on the differences between her old life in the city and her new life in this small run-down cottage in the Scottish countryside. These two worlds couldn’t be more different. Though her house is in major need of repair, as is the castle she frequents with Rory, there is a vast openness and peacefulness of their town that juxtaposes the busy and loud city Zoe comes from. The author does a great job of creating a vivid picture of the town, and I can see why Zoe wants to live there.
Overall, I thought this was a fantastic contemporary romance and a wonderful start to what promises to be an excellent series. Rory and Zoe’s story continues in the next book, and I’m eager to see how their relationship progresses. Thanks so much to Rachel’s Random Resources and Evie Alexander for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
This debut novel from Evie Alexander has all the spark, heat and swoon of an incredible romance read.
Zoe has always been a take no chances accountant. But when her great-uncle leaves her a dilapidated cabin in the Scottish Highlands she decides to take a risk and start anew. The only problem (besides her leaky roof, no door, no plumbing, no heat, no electricity) is Rory, the hot Scot who wants her to go back home.
I bought Highland Games after I read @ratetheormance recommendation and loved it! Evie Alexander wrote a funny, touching, sweet and sexy romance with a cantankerous hero and a smart and strong heroine I rooted for from start to finish.
Once you get to know him, Rory is sweet and caring underneath all the grump. Zoe is determined and resilient. I really enjoyed how she grew into herself. She went from living with her parents to becoming independent in a not so inviting living situation. But she definitely came out on top with the help of wonderful family friends and eventually the swoony Rory.
This book also merits some special mentions: - Bandit, Rory’s German Shepherd and Basil, Zoe’s Dumbo rat. They’re absolutely adorable. - Evie’s Sex Index (a.k.a. The Good Bits). I had never come across this and I not only think it’s super original but also very helpful! Woot, woot!
It’s safe to say I can’t wait to read Hollywood games!
Highland Games is a standalone rom-com by author Evie Alexander. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending. Tropes: enemies to lovers | small town | Scottish grumpy hero

Evie Alexander is the next big thing. Honestly, this book was one of the warmest, funniest, most loveable books I've ever read. It gave me Monarch of the Glen mixed with Jill Mansell at her best. Rory is DELICIOUS - I could eat him with a spoon. And the twists and turns... I didn't see them coming, and I squealed loud enough to wake my husband.
Buying this would be the smartest decision you make all month, and I cannot wait for it to be released so I have reams of people to enthuse with! Evie Alexander has a fan for life in me.
5☆ A Laugh out Loud Rom Com. My Top Read this Year!
Wow oh wow Highland Games is heading straight to the Top, of my Top Ten Books this Year! If I could give it 10☆ I would! It gave me all the right feels and really cheered me up.
I don't even know where to start with this book. It had a little of everything, but most importantly it had me giggling and laughing pretty much all the way through and for me that is a huge plus. There was flirty rivalry banter, slapstick Antics that had me laughing so hard and the suspense and sizzle of Romance, a dilapidated barn that had a leaky roof, no door, no phone signal, no running water/ electrics or toilet...what could possibly go wrong! Oh and I can't forget Basil the Rat or the Highland Cows lol 🙊
The setting is brilliant, the characters are even better and the sizzling chemistry is spot on!

This is a steamy romance set in Scotland and, whilst the plot is a bit obvious and sexy, I quite enjoyed the escapism and the bits where the characters were not indulging themselves.
To be fair, it’s only after the half way point do Zoe and Rory start to see more of each other. For the first half, I enjoyed seeing the conflict between the two characters. Although both admit to having instant, sexual attraction to the other, they are convinced this is not reciprocated. Determined to squash these feelings and ensure they remain at the remote cabin, both Zoe and Rory are clear they are not going to back down. The way that Zoe responds to Rory’s taunts are entertaining, but simultaneously reinforcing that there is only so much time before this sexual attraction takes control.
I supported Zoe’s determination to make a success of her cabin. Leaving everything behind in London, she acknowledges that her favourite memories were when she had stayed with her great uncle at this cabin when she was a child. Yet, returning as an adult, this cabin is far more run-down than she imagined. I liked watching Zoe juggle all the different tasks required to renovate her new home, whilst also managing a tight budget. To be fair, I think the writer does push the realms of believability here because Zoe seems to initially have an endless pot of gold. True, Zoe is aware of how much things cost and does try hard to keep the budget in control but, I found it difficult to believe that someone in their twenties or thirties was able to spend so much without needing employment. I think Alexander could have tweaked this aspect of the plot to make it more realistic.
Although Zoe has left everything behind, I found it odd how little contact she has with her parents. She seems to send more messages to her friend instead. This was puzzling because of the history revealed about her family; despite seeming to miss them and not want to worry her family, I could not believe of the closeness that is implied. Yes, Zoe desires to be independent and succeed on her own. However, surely she would have more contact with her family and retain that connection, despite being hundreds of miles away? I think I would have preferred more contact added to the plot, especially as it seems she shrugs off her own family and happily adopts Scottish childhood friends instead.
Undoubtedly, Rory is a hunk. The descriptions leave readers drooling and I loved the attention to detail. Yes, it is meant to be a light-hearted read but I think the writer actively encourages readers to imagine a very hunky god who happens to chop wood, happens to be very strong and muscular and, happens to sometimes wear a kilt… the Scottish way. His sparring with Zoe is entertaining and I wanted the couple to unite and recognise their feelings for one another. As you would expect, Rory does have his own demons and this causes a bit of friction when they are confronted by Zoe.
This is certainly a light-hearted read but one that I enjoyed nonetheless. I loved the setting and it was definitely entertaining. This is the start of a trilogy and I am looking forward to returning to Kinloch hopefully later in the year. As for this book, whilst there were some character flaws, I appreciated the developing relationship between Rory and Zoe, whilst also applauding the latter for her strength and courage to make a big change to her life.
With thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
OK so I very rarely *actually* laugh out loud during a book. I read a lot of rom coms find most of them funny. But a completely involuntary fit of giggles? The worst kind of snorting, unladylike goose-honks?? Not that I care about being ladylike, but these kinds of outbursts are unusual enough that my husband was like wtf are you up to over there?
Wtf I was up to was reading Highland Games.
I'm extremely glad this book is the first in a series because I cannot wait to return to Rory and Zoe's world.
Evie Alexander has finely honed every inch (ha!) of the story, every detail, every character quirk fits. One thing that really bugs me is when characters act inconsistently (not in an intentional way, but when there hasn't been enough editing). The way every piece slides together (lol) shows how much intention and love and editing when into this book.
Plus, since I can't seem to stop making sex puns... OH. MY. GOD. Writing good sex is hard and Evie nailed it. Hard. Did I say hard already?
If I had to choose a favourite scene - which is difficult!! - it'd have to be Sam's gift. I laughed myself stupid, it was perfect.
Laughs? Yes. Love? Yes. Living your best life? Hell yes!
Zoe's got it, and if you want it... then you want Highland Games.
This is the first book in the Kinloch series and what a way to kick it off !
In this book we met Zoe , when one of her uncles dies and leaves a cabin in Scotland to her she decides it is the best time to leave the hustle and bustle of London and her flat and head upto the Highland of Scotland... possibly not the best idea she had had. It is a stark difference from the cosy flat she is used too! We also meet Rory , such a sweet guy , but when he is faced with a huge problem of needed to get more money out of the castle and the knowledge that someone has moved into a cabin that he saw as his , it isn't long before things get heated between the two.
The book is absolutely brilliantly written , with characters you can warm to instantly and moments throughout the book that will really make you laugh. It is a book that I would definitely recommend and it is a book that makes you want to keep reading on and seeing what is going to happen.
Oh My Goodness this Scottish girl LOVED every single bit of this book, seriously you need to go grab it as soon as you can and devour it.
This book was full of humour, steam, love, wit, fun and just a real feel good read.
🏴 Enemies to lovers 🏴 Small town 🏴 Steamy 🏴 Romantic Comedy
Set in the Scottish Highlands in a tiny little cabin, cold as ice but hot as hell!!!
I adored Rory and Zoe so so much, they despised each other but is hate really the opposite of love?? This pair had so much chemistry even though they really tried their best to hide from it.
So much of this book had me literally laughing out loud, I really love that in a book. On top of that fun there were some huge twists and turns and some angst thrown in for good measure.
I loved the ending of this book, it was perfect for the storyline and I can not wait to see what happens next.
Great storyline in a great setting with great characters.
I really can not wait to see what this brand new author brings next and I can promise I am along for the ride.
I had never read anything from this author, but decided to give her work a go. I am really happy I did! This is funny, steamy, and engaging.
While it took me a couple chapters to get into her style of writing, once I got it, the pages flipped themselves. I finished it in one sitting and found her descriptions wonderful.
Rory and Zoe are gorgeous (if only in my mind!).
This author has definitely written a steamy story, with fun characters that I would recommend. I look forward to reading the next one from her.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh my word what a hilariously funny, romantic story Evie has written. Set in the beautiful highlands, this is a unique romance between Zoe and Rory, both worlds apart in their upbringing but drawn together for the love of a cabin and who it rightfully belongs to! The scenery, the comedy that comes from Zoe’s one liners and the sadness held deeply within Rory make you want to root for a special romantic connection and the author absolutely nails it! Can’t wait for the next book- can’t recommend enough!
A good heart warming story one that I have read and enjoyed immensely . Story line good, to give a nice easy to read and enjoyable book. Buy and lose yourself for a few hours
Gorgeous, funny, totally endearing and searingly sexy, Evie Alexander's debut had me enthralled from the first to last page. Packed with humour, pathos, a cast of quirky adorable characters, a seriously sexy but vulnerable hero, and a feisty adorable heroine — not to mention the odd bovine, occasional friendly hound, and a seriously lovable rat. Evie Alexander has just shot into my fave author list. Can't wait for more of the Kinloch Series.
This is an awesome romance set in the Highlands of Scotland. It's full of humour, emotion and heat... Have a fan and a cool drink at the ready! There's so much to love in this story and you'll instantly be drawn in by the lead characters and their stories. The ending is very satisfying and there's more to come! Can't wait to read the next one ☺️
Sharp wit, sexy Scot, and daffy heroine make this debut novel sparkle. Engaging and funny throughout the book, I could not put it down. Well done, Evie Alexander. This is a must-read. And I can't wait for more from this talented witty author.
I absolutely adored this book. It was steamy, it was romantic, it was funny (basically all you could want in a book!) I’m not normally a fan of a slow-burn….I just want to get straight into it but this fit the story so perfectly!
I knew this book was a romcom before diving in, but I didn't really expect it to be SO good. I am soo in love with the plot and the scenes ❤️
On a base level, this book is a hate-to-love trope, with an amazing slow burn. And it's also sunshine/grumpy which makes the whole plot 100x more cool.
First, we have a heroine who's decided that she wants to give up city life, and instead live in peace in a cabin in the woods. And then, we have a hero who wants to escape his life and go live in a cabin (the same cabin, as it turns out). She gets there first however, and he's having a hell of a time trying to get her out ... until, first his decency kicks in, and he starts grovelling to make up for being a jerk. And to make this even better, they both fall for each other, but think the other person hates them :)))
With this plot, one can imagine the amount of tension in every scene.. but as the summary suggests, this is a proper romcom. Every single tense scene is interspersed with comedy, making it a highly enjoyable read. I was literally smiling throughout, it was so so good.
There are also two very cute pets who I'm absolutely in love with ❤️
I definitely recommend that you read this, it's one of the best feel-good books I've read recently!
This is such a fun book. I loved the premise of Zoe striking it out on her own in Scotland and living her best life. Too bad her best life involves a lack of indoor plumbing, no electricity or even a door to her dwelling.
This a perfect romcom, though. Equal parts funny and sweet. With lots of cute moments to swoon over. But my favorite part was the enemies to lovers battle between Rory and Zoe. His hijinx had me rolling and the best part was that Zoe totally rolled with the punches and didn’t let him win.
When Rory and Zoe finally decided to stop fighting and start (well, … you know that other f word) that’s when things got super steamy. This book does not disappoint!!
And it’s so fun when you have well-defined baddies to hate. The women in Rory’s life are so toxic, I just wanted to yell “Boo! Hiss!” whenever they are mentioned.
I really enjoyed how strong Zoe was throughout this book and how she worked to overcome challenges and didn’t whine and complain about obstacles (like I would have!)
Great debut book!! Loved it.
I received an advance reader copy of this book from Book Sirens and these are my honest opinions.
I received a complementary copy of this book Now I'm sharing my review of it, please take a look! When her great uncle is dying he tells Zoe to follow her heart Then leaves her his Highland home that's falling apart. She leaves her safe, accountancy job and goes To live in the Highlands near friends she knows.
The cabin is isolated and falling apart With no running water or electricity, not a great start! When a neighbour turns up and wants her out She's more determined than ever to turn it about. Get ready for antics and laughter, too As fighting their mutual attraction is what they both do.
It is a steamy, hot romcom to escape in With a mother who seems determined to win. She has her own ideas of what Rory should do And seems unable him to listen to. He's keeping secrets that shouldn't be concealed What will happen when they're finally revealed?
With family drama, strong friendship - and a pet rat There's tree climbing antics and much more than that! There are great characters and a community that's small As well as a heartwarming romance as in love they fall. A delightful start to a new series, too I can't wait to read more - and hope so do you!
I just let the book, Highland Games consume my entire weekend and let me tell you, it was time well spent.
I'm not always a massive fan of romance but I not only liked this one, I LOVED it!
I am half Scottish and spent all of my childhood holidays in the Highlands so this book made me very reminiscent with its cutesy little post office and cold, starry nights with breath curling like cotton in front of your face.
The main characters, Zoe and Rory are adorable but also super cool and believable. The romance that blossoms between them is realistic but also hot and exciting . . . I thought the raunchy scenes were totally justified - relevant to the story and the characters, exhilarating and touching.
The story is crafted beautifully and the narrative is tied up in a satisfactory way BUT I know this is not the last we will hear from this fantastic author, and I'm glad because these characters left me wanting MORE!
You'll really enjoy this book, I am absolutely sure of it.
Zoe inherits a remote ramshackle cottage in Kinloch and abandons her London life to take advantage of it, little realising that her nearest neighbour Rory has had his eyes on it and would like nothing more than for Zoe to go back where she came from. But Zoe has no such intentions! I love the cover of this book, it's hilarious and the book is a rollercoaster of a ride. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC/audiobook!
Not only an adorable slow burn romance, but also a story about finding and appreciating your true self. The fierce heat between Zoe and Rory makes this book impossible to put down. But of course, I'm a sucker for a strong AF female lead and the kind of bravery that Zoe has is truly inspirational. I can't wait to read the rest of the story in the upcoming sequel!
Thank you to Evie Alexander for this ARC! 💜 This book was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend!
Finished this in a single day it was so juicy. I went in completely blind to the plot and I was very surprised. It was so different to anything I've read so far.
Also, be warned there are some steamy bits. Now I don't mean parts where you slightly turn the book away from your partner, I'm talking parts that make you blush and seek some privacy. Very hot.
This book had lots of good and a few things that were pretty bad. A few tweaks of the storyline would have really upped my rating.
The good: - The heroine is awesome. She does this impulsive thing by moving to an unknown place, but she doesn’t back down when she realizes how much more difficult her situation will be than what she thought. She really takes every situation in stride and doesn’t let the little setbacks get her down. - There’s a good bit of humor in the story. I wouldn’t say I was laughing out loud, but definitely snickered a few times. - The sex was slow burn and pretty hot when it happened. I really appreciated that after reading a few closed door books. - The side characters are fun, well developed, and good additions to the story in general.
The not so good: - The hero was a pretty big effin jerk to the heroine in the beginning. It took me a long time to warm up to him because he was just such a dummy when it came to interactions with the heroine. - THE BED HE MADE FOR HIS EX FIANCÉE … that he turned around and gave to the heroine instead! 🤬 - There was too much physical violence from the heroine. She threw things at the hero repeatedly, and she crashed into his car on purpose when she was mad (not while he was in the car). In general, she was pretty hot headed and took her anger out in ways that were pretty juvenile and stupid. Not really something that I like in real life or in books. - The ending was a mess. I knew a separation was coming, but it ended up being much more dramatic than I expected it to be. I liked that it didn’t go down totally how I expected, but also didn’t like some elements of how it was written. The hero and heroine should have discussed their issues, but as usual, she blew up and talked over him, and he just kept all his thoughts buried instead of speaking up when it mattered most.
Overall, this is a good book with some stuff that just didn’t work for me.
Safe -No virgins -Hero not a manwhore, he was engaged about one year prior and she broke up with him. Present day, his mom is scheming to get them back together. -No real OW drama but some minor stuff. Hero isn’t interested in his ex. -No OM drama -No cheating/scenes with OM or OW

Highland Games is so aptly named after its enemies-to-lovers trope, also do not forget the beautiful Scottish highlands and the cabin and a very hot brooding Scottish man to spice things up!!
When Zoe inherits her great uncle's cabin in the Scottish highlands of Kinloch, she decides this is IT. She leaves her London flat, her friends and family behind to live in this cabin which has no power, no water and no sewerage and it's definitely not suitable for human inhabitation. But Zoe wants to try. Afterall, some of the good and bad moments of her life were experienced here and she doesn't want to disappoint her uncle Willie.
Although, Rory has other plans for the cabin. For one, he wants it for himself. He's even made new doors and windows and he's very sure the Londoner would soon hurry off to where she came from, unable to withstand the Scottish winter.
What begins as a rough start soon develops into something intense as they both discover undeniable physical attraction over each other. The chemistry begins hot as they start working on the cabin and flames are already rising above the roof. It's only a matter of time before they erupt in lust for one another.
BUT. There are a few things Rory keeps to himself and is very sure Zoe would hate him if she discovers who he really is!!
Wow a steamy rom-com with a twist. I absolutely adore this book and everything about it. Zoe is a beautiful soul, in and out. Her character is so well developed, especially her tendency of hysteria to laugh at the inappropriate situations. And Rory, well he's tough and he deserves all the good things. He's very, very hot especially when he adorns a kilt. Steamy scenes are solid 5 stars and the twists and final chapter will make you swoon so much.
I'm so glad I discovered Evie Alexander and her books. Can't wait to read the other books she's planned for the series.
