A new realm has awoken. A new threat has emerged. So new warriors must take the helm. Amber is an ordinary ensign whose only claim to fame is throwing toast on the most important soldier on the station. Then everything changes. When she’s lost on an alien world and her true powers awaken, she must keep them secret from the Coalition or pay the price. But it’ll be hard to keep her secret around the ever-watchful Commander Starsmith. When she draws his eye, he can’t look away. For deep within him, something is arising. Let it sink, and the station might survive. Let it rise, and the Coalition will never be the same again. … Tune in for the thrilling first installment in the Forgotten Stars series. Action-packed, heart-racing sci-fi, it has just the right mix of adventure, thrills, and light romance. It is sure to please fans of Odette C. Bell’s Ouroboros

This could have been a very good story with a more adept writer. However, as it is, it is full of repetition and errors, including the best friend's name (who never really came into the story) which was Roslyn some of the time and Rosalynn the rest of the time. I won't be reading any more by this writer.
Forgotten stars is a rather interesting story, it's sa universe where alternate universes are bleeding over into ours, and they can't be harmed with normal weapons. But, there are some that have the mental capacity to fight the invaders, and make no mistake, they are invaders. One girl is fighting the good fight, even though she's taking crap from all sides for not being who others want her to be, but none of that matters when the invaders are about. It's a pretty good first in series, and I fully intend to read more in this series.
The idea for the story is good: a young ensign coming into mysterious powers she knows nothing about, an extremely powerful alien artifact, attacks by an interdimensional alien race with murder on their minds, and an experienced, high ranking special ops solider with powerful technology who doesn't want to be on the space station he's stuck on. So far so good, however, the problem comes with the author's writing. The prose is flat, there are some grammatical errors, two different spellings for a secondary character's name, and not much detail added to flesh out the story, for example, there are almost no descriptions that could give the reader a sense of what the space station looks like, what "the edge" looks like, etc. Disappointing. I won't be reading any more.
This is the first book in the Forgotten Stars by Odette C. Bell. Amber is an ensign who is stranded at the space station on an alien planet then her mysterious powers begin to awaken, but she must keep her secret from the Coalition or face dire consequences. Her secret becomes harder to conceal around Commander Starsmith, a powerful and enigmatic figure who’s drawn to Amber for reasons even he doesn’t understand. As a new realm awakens and a mysterious threat emerges, Amber and Starsmith are pulled into a conflict that could reshape the Coalition forever. I really enjoyed this fascinating fantasy space opera novel.

I'm really enjoying Odette's writing style. The short episodes are just enough to whet my appetite. As a fan of Sci-fi I also enjoy the galactic world building where the threats of deep space are just beyond the bulk heads.
So, I'm rating this four stars because its filling a gap in my reading list but it isn't something I will likely re-read. I also wish there was an audiobook format for it.
An absolute blockbuster non-stop action from the first page, with aliens and amazing tech battles that will have you Mo frantically turning the pages and even some humour. Can't wait to read the rest of this series well written with amazing characters with the best storyline I've read in a long time, don't miss this one, Baz.
I worried that by having a title 'Book One', the story would be incomplete - and it kinda was. But it did reach a satisfactory point so that there is some closure. (Some stories don't achieve any completion.)
I really live the characters in this story especially when we see Amber successfully wield alien technology against a new enemy. And she has to keep her new skill a secret. Fun to read.
This was one of the most fun books. I’ve read in a while. The characters and their interactions were great. The creativity of the author was impressive. I highly recommend this book.
Great concept, sharp action, space based science fiction. Interesting combination of swords and spaceships. Characters who grow on you and a solid series plot. A good read.
The plot is very promising but there's something about the writing style that just doesn't work for me. There's too much internal monologue during action scenes that kinda make my eyes glaze with boredom.
I thought that the book was a bit short and could’ve had some more character development but I enjoyed the action scenes and I can see that there’s more to see but I will not be buying the second book.
Over the top extra dimensional alien monsters invade at a far edge of the universe. Purchased this edition on September 27, 2023, from Amazon for free.
This book was riveting from the start. I loved that Amber was chosen as the victor throughout the story and being an unseen hero made it more appealing.
Didn't think I'd like this book, I got it for free on Amazon. Once I finished it, I bought the other three in the set because now I want to know how the story ends. The author's writing style is a little all over the place, but the story is interesting. The two main characters, Ensign Amber and Captain Kim are a good match for each other- he's all miliary and she's a bit of a bumbler. The story pretty much starts quick and doesn't stop for a break until the end of the book, but even then, it's a bit of a cliff hanger. Sometimes its a little hard to follow the sci-fi techhie part of the writing, but you get the gist. It's a fun romp so far, looking forward to the next books!
