I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you BookSirens.

Could not put this book down. I was engulfed in the story from the first few paragraphs. This book has a lot going on to keep you second guessing what will happen next. You have family honor and loyalty, the journey of redemption and finding one's true self (and being comfortable with it), danger and suspense, and most of all a slow burn romance that leads to HEA ending.

A Vampire's Soul is book 3 in the Vampires of Black Oak. This book can be read as a standalone. Bourque does a great job in giving enough insight about the previous book to understand what is going on. This particular standalone is about Emmeline Dubois, Montreal vampire and Mount-Royal Immortal Justinien St-Amand. Justin and Emme have been in each other's lives for centuries. Justin has always been there for Emme helping, protecting and silently loving her. When Emme regains her soul, Justin is he one and only person who comes to her rescue. While she is trying to come to terms with all that she has done in the past and trying to find some sort of redemption for her soul danger comes knocking at their door. A hunter is after one of them. When it is determined that Emme is the target we find out the lengths Justin goes thru to protect her. We also find out the journey Emme goes through as well as she fights for her life.

What I love about this book are the characters. The story they tell about their past and how they come to the realization of their true feelings for each other. How once they accept those feelings. They feed of each other's strengths to fight the enemy. There are times when I got upset with Justin. He is a very educated man with multiple degrees and is a Nobel Prize winner. He is so analytical and so loyal to his word that it hingers him obtaining what he wants most. Emme in the other hand is this free spirit and so naive to Justin's true feelings. She had to obtain her soul to finally accept herself as who she is.

Thank you Book Sirens for the ARC. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

First, this book is labeled as a stand-alone, and it is insomuch that the plot wraps up at the end. However, these characters appear in previous books, which I didn't realize until after I started. As a result, I feel like I missed a lot of history and character building. I don't think there is a problem with reading this one first, but readers should consider hunting down the other books.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The world that is introduced is interesting, it has subtle differences from the usual vampire/immortal/werewolf stories...enough to give it a fresh feel. I did have a hard time connecting to the main characters. There is so much that I didn't understand about them and their dynamic....they have centuries of history together, but we only get glimpses. I also struggled to understand everything that was going on at the beginning of the book, I felt like I had been plopped down in the middle of a story. That did end up getting better, but I think that the first part of the story would benefit from some world and character building.

I did like the writer's style, it is a little formal in places, but when dealing with immortals, that seems kind of appropriate. I was a little frustrated with the addition of all the characters, especially toward the end. I know that this is Justin and Emme's story and that adding additional characters possibly introduces the next book, but waiting until the end to really bring them into the story (they all had been previously mentioned) was a little frustrating disappointing.
I will add though, that I do think if I had read the other books first, most of my issues with this book would have been solved. So again, I would encourage others to consider checking out the author's other books. Looking at her website, https://marieclaudebourque.com/, there are a lot of other stories set in this world.

I read this book in one sitting! Seriously, I couldn’t stop!

This is a best friends to lovers, slow burn fantasy about a vampire named Emmeline Dubois. When she was turned into a vampire, she lost her soul and thus spent the next three hundred years wreaking havoc, killing people, and creating baby vampires.

That is… until she retrieves her soul when she was injured in the Daemon Realm.

Emme has a great character development throughout the book. From the beginning, she is beyond miserable, unable to deal with everything that happened, that she did, since she turned into a vampire. Justin, her best friend, an immortal, is there to help her through it, though. He has always been my her side, secretly in love with his best friend. Ever since she turned, he went above and beyond to help her. He cleaned up her massacres, found (stole) her a daylight ring so she could go out in the sun, created a synth so that she could manage her bloodlust, married another woman to try to move on from his feelings for her.

And now, he is having to protect her from a sociopathic vampire hunter out to end the ‘vampire of ville-marie’. He will stop at nothing to destroy Emme. So, Emme and Justin must face this new foe together, and maybe, if they can make it out alive… they might just find love along the way.

Note: I’m not certain, but I believe this is a new adult novel, so there is some spice!

Emmeline had regained her soul, but also an overwhelming sense of guilt and despair. Justin, struggling with his feelings and his sense of loyalty was remaining faithful and devoted to what he considered his duty to Emme, but his feelings were obvious. Sigh! The past resurfaced in the village, confusing and threatening the lives of all the Paranormal with the strong hatred, violence and destruction that hung over them. But the target was clear, and the enemy seemed to have the upper hand. The situation was intense, and the suspense had me on edge. What a way to catch my attention! I had only read A Vampire's Heart previously, this is a new author for me, and when I saw the opportunity to read A Vampire's Soul through BookSirens, I didn't hesitate. A big jump between books, but the small explanations helped me understand what happened before and my curiosity got the better of me. Emmeline promised to be an intense and intriguing character and I was not wrong. The detailed descriptions and narrations gave me the chills and I couldn't stay in suspense, so I continued reading because the book was too interesting to put it aside. Vampires, Immortals, witches, shifters, and an unhinged villain in this story full of suspense, action, strong emotions, revenge, violence, romance, and passion. I'm going for the other books because these Immortals stories are exciting, intriguing, and intense just the way I like them. I voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received for free from BookSirens and enjoyed it.

The author drew me in from the start and she makes sure to take you on a journey with love, guilt, angst, hate, and all in the immortal world. I also love how some parts of the writing really make you feel and believe that these characters are centuries old.

Without giving too much away, but I want to make sure you get enough to PICK THIS BOOK UP, this story is about a vampire who has been killing people and turning them as well but it hasn’t ever been so much as an afterthought to her. A spell backfires and Emme gets her soul back and is suddenly crippled by the guilt of all the havoc she has wreaked.
Emme has one person in her life that won’t and doesn’t give up on her but Emme has to fight for her own strength and self forgiveness and she has to do it fast, before a vampire hunter kills the people she cares about.

This book is the third in this series but don’t let that give you any pause. It can be read as a stand-alone but I would personally recommend reading books #1 & 2 first for a simple reason. It will give you background and history of the characters and will help to further strengthen your knowledge of the world the author has created.

It is AMAZING, just like the other two and I can’t wait for the next one to come out. So come join this world of immortals and see what happens.

A Vampire’s Soul
Emmeline Dubois is a monster, the infamous vampire of Ville-Marie in Montreal. When she was young woman she fell for Valerian St.- Amand. They became engaged and before they married, Val entrusted her with his secret. He is a vampire. Wanting to join him in eternity she agrees to be brought into the vampire world. In the process Emme loses her soul. She also loses Val. His brother Justin does his best to look after Emme as she learns to be a vampire. She has killed many and turned quite a few in the last 300 years.
Now, through an accidental spell gone wrong Emme has regained her soul. She is tortured by all that she has done. The loneliness and wanting to turn others, the bloodlust. Emme awakens in Justin’s house and he is caring for her. He has always wanted to look after Emme but she is his brother’s ex -fiancé. The despair that Emme feels could kill her unless she comes to terms with her past.
Justin and Emme find that there is a hunter that is hunting her. They must stop this hunter from killing Emme. Emme is also trying to talk to and atone to those she has wronged. When she turned people into vampires they live under a curse to only live until their 30th birthday then they die. Can she help those she has come to care for?
This was a fast read, you just can’t put it down. Emme is coming to see Justin in a new way. He has always cared for her and looked after her, could there be more? What an awesome journey of discover

A different take on the supernatural world. The storylinenis interesting. The story itself is portrayed very well.

Emme is having a crisis with her conscience. Now that she has regained her soul, she is living the nightmare of her past deeds. Justin is always there to help her through these nightmares. She keeps reliving all the things that she has done wrong and can't see a way out. Justin is her tower of strength. He is there to advise and encourage her whenever required. The thing is that he has been enamoured by her for centuries, only she couldn't see it. There is a hunter on the prowl and he is after her. He puts her through the most atrocious torture. He has one mission and this mission is to destroy Emme. Will Justin be able to protect her? Will she eventually acknowledge how he feels about her ? Will she return those sentiments?

Justin is the one constant in her long ife. He is supportive and caring. The secondary characters are just as supportive, except for the Hunter. The story flows nicely and the characters are very well portrayed. The unusual concept makes it that much more interesting. A very enjoyable read.

I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Emme has a trouble past. Now is looking back, seeing what has happened, and wanting to figure out what to do. Problems arise because she is being hunted, the others are bonus, and in the midst of all the searching is coming to some realizations that kind of slap her upside the head ( as I would say).

I don't want to say anything else because the story is so enjoyable that I want you to have that experience. I will say that the story wonderfully weaves intrigue, danger, suspense, romance and family in ones!

A first time reader to series or book alone? Good for you! Jump right in!!

I felt like a first time reader and I have read then other books.

I can honestly say that this book can be read as a stand alone book. So if looking to start here then do so. You can follow the storyline just fine. For me -- thinking I had forgotten the others and get the different series a bit confused (old age lol) -- there are just enough hints to make me want to back and get the details.

I enjoy all of author's books! Can I have the next now? Jonesing for it! Do not want to wait. Please..???? On Knees begging.

This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

The book centers around Emme, a turned vampire and Justin, an immortal vampire. Justin has harbored feelings for Emme for centuries but refuses to give in to his urges in pursuing Emme. Thus begins this slow burn love story between these best friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story because it was fast paced and the dialogue was pretty good! When I started reading, I got entangled in their lives pretty quickly! Their relationship is a tale of a love simmering in the sidelines, only to shine through with the test of time and trials. Emme is a spirited soul who wants to discover her true self and fights for what she believes in. Justin, on the other hand, is a controlled immortal vampire with principles he refuses to cross. They seem an unlikely pair but looking at the depth of who they are to each other, it is apparent they are meant to be together. And it is a pickle getting them to finally fall for each other and admit their true feelings. I got so invested in seeing them together it took me two days to read the whole thing!

So many cliches flitted through my mind as I read this .... "There is nothing so dangerous as someone with something to prove." (Emme) "Still waters run deep." (Justin) "Looking for love in all the wrong places." (Emme) "Whenever you fall in love again." (Justin) "My name is [DeGaul]. You killed [innocents]. Prepare to die." (inconsiderate, interfering annoying supernatural hunter)

Despite the cliches, the author still put into words the kind of angst and anguish I expect that Angel (of Buffy fame) suffered when he regained his soul and conscience. This novel may revel in the drama and conflict (which makes for a really good romance) but it also highlights the ideal that no one, no matter how sinful, cannot be redeemed. Quite a deep thought to take away from a paranormal take on the boy-next-door romantic trope.

I enjoyed the atmospheric writing, the creepy tension and the slow burn exploration of the relationship between the careful, controlled immortal, Professor Justin St-Amand, and the sensual and wild child Vampire of Ville-Marie, Emmeline Dubois. This is a story about redemption. When Emme regains her soul (as collateral damage in a magical battle), she relives all the horror of her rampage as a thirsty Vampire. As Emme finds peace and reconciliation with her past soulless self, she discovers the depth of Justin's devotion. This book is a stand alone, but best read in order. The magical battle occurs in another book.

In summary, highly recommended, adult themes, sexual content, slow burn romance, great dialogue. This would make a great dual narration audio book. The author's notes are helpful and the Glossary of Characters helps untangle the complex family relationships of the Order of the Black Oak.

Oh wow how do I start this review. This is book 3 in this series, I have read the previous books and have to admit that the characters in the books have me hooked.I'm not a fan of spoilers in book reviews so won't give anything away, though there were times I wanted to hit Justin and tell him to vampire up and admit his feelings for Emme. Some things would certainly have been less complicated lol. I'm concerned about a choice they made and whether it was the right one, but time will tell I guess. I absolutely love the depth of world building and the story in these books, they never fail to give you a good time. I mean some of it was really not good for Emme but for the reader I love the journey the book you on.
Can't wait to read the next book.

OMG! What a fantastic page-turner this is! “A Vampire’s Soul” by Marie-Claude Bourque is the 3rd amazing must read novel from ‘The Order of the Black Oak – Vampires’ series :)
A paranormal page-turner from the first page with fast paced action. Another fresh and unique storyline that kept me glued to my seat! ... Awesome well-defined characters, clever dialogue with shifters, witches & demons, both good & bad vampires, full of magic & entertaining plots. Great attention-to-detail, surprise twists and turns, will have readers hooked just like me! ...

I never write spoilers or copy blurbs, and even tho I volunteered to read this before it released but it was without any outside influences. Plus I do buy kindle books whenever I can. So yes, I can honestly recommend this to adult fans of fiction & can’t wait for more of these phenomenal books from Ms. Bourque!

An interesting read with a mix of magic, self reflection, and danger to keep you reading. I was never attached to Emme, but loved Justin. I was not sure what to expect in their book. My exceptions were blown away, I absolutely fell in love with them and truly enjoyed their journey to finally accept their love. One of my favorite parts was how they avoided telling each other how they felt. However, I absolutely loved how Emme helped Justin do things he would never do, while he helped her with having a soul. The action adds to the story letting them each show how much they truly mean to each other. I highly recommend you read this book, you will not want to put it down. A Vampire’s Soul continues the saga of the immortal St-Amand brothers. Justin has watched over Emme, cleaning up her messes, for over 300 years. Emme is a gorgeous blonde vampire who has regained her soul, and with it came a conscience that shames her with the burden of all her careless misdeeds. And, there’s an assassin on the loose. The book has all the elements I love—an interesting plot, lots of suspense, action, romance and some paranormal and fantasy all mixed together. However, the first few chapters didn’t capture my interest like the other books have. The second half of the book was full of suspense and action packed. I thank the author for an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A great story in which an old vampire was struck by a spell that gave her back her soul and with it feelings of deep shame what she has done in all those years, killing all those people. But also the realization that she has feelings of love for the brother of the one who turned her into a vampire.
But before she can give in to those feelings, she must first avoid being killed by a hunter from LeGall, a family that has hunted immortals through the ages.

Exciting, full of emotions and a paranormal romance rolled into one. Happy with my Kobo subscription because there I can read the other books of the Order of the Black Oak which I will definitely do!.

Vampire Emmeline Dubois regains her soul from a spell gone wrong and is consumed with guilt for all those she has killed and those she has turned. But Mount-Royal Immortal Professor Justinien St-Amand refuses to let give up and not be the woman that he knows and loves. Emme
must find a way to forgive herself and become the woman she is before the vampire hunter kills those she loves. This is another great in the series The Order of the Black Oak. I look forward to many more from the author.

Yet another fantastic story in this series! A lot of self revelations in this story, a coming to terms with oneself and how you perceive what others think of you... very deep thoughts but kept light. Enough love and lust combined with violence and survival. We get glimpses of Ren and Cas and the Werewolf alpha, Alcide. The story centers on Emme and Justin, but at the same time it gives you glimpses of the past and things seen from Emme or Justin's point of view. Love it!!! Looking forward to the next book!!

I’m loving this series with these sexy vampires who find their mates in these sassy, strong and stubborn humans, in this story the vampire is female Emmeline who gets her soul back after 300 years of being a vicious vampire there is also a vampire hunter after her. Justin an immortal has been in love with Emmeline for centuries and he will do anything to protect Emmeline but will it be enough to protect her against the cunning hunter?. I loved this story it’s a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.

Sweeping and enthralling, this story leads you through some difficult times for Emme and Justin. Emme regains her soul and has to come to terms with the destruction and inhumanity she dealt as a vampire over the past 300 years. Justin, her best friend who has silently loved her for centuries comes to her aid and their relationship grows. A slow burn with a bit of spice but beautifully told. I recommend reading the previous books to get the full history so you can fully enjoy this beautiful story.

I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of depth to it in both the subject and well as the relationship between the two main characters. I’m so glad to get Emme’s story. We have read about her and the not so nice history she has. But now really get to know her. She may be known as a dangerous vampire but we get to see her pain and really get into her head. And Justin is there the whole time just like he has been there for her these past three hundred years. They will face danger but also face their fears.

It might have taken centuries for Emme and Justin to admit they loved each other but there were destined to be together. Emme has to learn to be at peace once her soul is returned. She finds a purpose just before they end up in a fight to the death with a psychotic hunter. It takes Emme and Justin teaming up to win. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat as you can't wait to read what comes next.

This book is the best in series thus far! Justin's unrequited feelings for Emme, over three centuries, comes to light after she regains her soul. They work together to solve mysterious issues while Emme sets on a path of redemption, while Justin taps into his long avoided non-human side. It was an interesting and entertaining story.

These are fun, interesting reads dealing with magic and danger! Vampire Emme has a vampire Hunter after, but luckily, Justin is there to help her out when things get crazy. Plus, some sweet and steamy romance! Love paranormal romances! Emme and Justin are cute! Not huge on friends to lovers scenario; I get annoyed that they keep denying their feelings, but I enjoyed the chemistry between them. Entertaining read! Looking forward to the next one!

Man, I did not like Emme in the previous books. At all. After reading book three of the Order of the Black Oak Vampires series, however, I have found my previous dislike vanished.

Seeing her transform into who she was long ago was mesmerizing. I enjoyed her discovery of friends to (slow burn) lovers with Justin.

The romance was wrapped around the Order quite well and I can't wait to see where book four tales us.
