This was SUCH a good book! Harper B. Conway has written an excellent story with so many layers.
Jailbird by Harper B. Conway is a small-town, single-parent romance. Nadia Archer, 24, is a single mother to the most amazing five-year-old, Layla. With the help of her brother, sister-in-law, and best friend she provides for Layla as both her mother and father. When Nadia was younger, she was the goodie two shoes, but one party changed her life forever catapulting her into becoming the person she only dreamed she could be. Christian Ray, Tyler Archer’s college friend, and former convict, needs a place to stay until he gets back on his feet. He stays at Tyler’s home and comes into contact with Nadia years after meeting her for the first time. Christian and Nadia’s relationship starts off rocky, but as they learn about each other and the baggage each of them has as their relationship develops from strangers to friends to lovers.
Christian is the ultimate, swoon-worthy book boyfriend. He is misunderstood because of his past and appearance as well as how he acts around Nadia when they first meet, but he’s literally the sweetest, most caring, gentleman of a man. Nadia has dealt with so much in her life. She’s a single, tattooed mother who constantly gets judged in the small town she lives in. Nadia has built a thick skin, she’s independent, strong, feisty, and tries her hardest to be the best mother to Layla. And Layla, this sweet girl stole my heart! I loved these characters; they were so realistic with all their flaws. These characters were by no means perfect, they made mistakes, misunderstandings, and that’s what made me love them so much more.
Jailbird shows Conway’s ability as a talented storyteller. The effortless transition from past to present, the development of the characters as the story progressed, as well as the way the character's emotions were conveyed. This book is a must-read and one I will be rereading because I LOVED Nadia and Christian’s story!
