Some things shouldn’t be left to chance…

Victoria Madaris is next on her great-grandmother’s matchmaking list—which suits her just fine. She’s laser-focused on her career and doesn’t have time to concentrate on her love life, too. Knowing that Mama Laverne is vetting unsuitable candidates—like rising US senator Roman Malone—makes things easy.

But Roman unexpectedly ticks all of Victoria’s boxes. The longtime family friend is outrageously sexy, and every time they meet, their chemistry crackles. Being a journalist, though, Victoria just doesn’t trust politicians. Plus, her matchmaker’s expert opinion keeps pointing to the charming and handsome Tanner Jamison. And everybody knows, Mama Laverne is never wrong.

Suddenly, Victoria sees Tanner everywhere—as if by fate—but she doesn’t feel any attraction. Meanwhile, the more Victoria gets to know Roman, the harder it is to resist him. Her head is saying play it safe, but is her heart strong enough to go against her better judgment…and Mama Laverne’s?

There is a lot of side characters from the previous series by this author Madaris family saga
which I haven't read so I didn't care as much.. if you read that and want to try the Catalina Cove series you can go straight to this book.
Victorica got on my nerves at times with all the grandma setting her up but it was resolved well.
Enjoyable read. I liked both love stories.

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦

❧ I was totally out of the loop about there being a next book in the Catalina Cove series, but snatched it up anyways since I enjoyed the previous books.

Follow Your Heart is a little different than the previous three books in this series. In the fourth installment in the Catalina Cove series, Brenda Jackson was serving us a two-for-one special when it came to the romance and I totally was not prepared for it (no, I don't read blurbs, sue me).

❧ It took me a bit to get into this story because I wasn't exactly sure where it was going in regards to the coupling. It wasn't until the 40% mark did I start to become invested in this story because we got a better picture of who our couples were gonna be and I needed to see how things would play out.

❧ I think it was pretty obvious to everyone that Victoria and Roman were a perfect match from the start—well, obvious to everyone but Victoria. They're extremely like-minded and share many hobbies and they just fell for one another so easily.

❧ Not gonna lie, I totally hated Tanner at the beginning of the book. He's such a womanizer and I truly could not picture him falling in love.

❧ Seeing Tanner fall head-over-heels for Lyric was both funny and sweet. Lyric had him practically begging on his knees and I loved it!

❧ I have to admit, while Victoria and Roman may have had more stage time when it came to the romance, but Lyric and Tanner kind of stole my whole heart and I was most excited to see how their story would play out.

❧ This book was a lot steamier than the previous books, just saying. 👀🔥

❧ So I haven't read the Madaris Family Saga but I loved that this big family was so involved in this book. Everyone is a riot, especially Mama Laverne! I adored this woman so much with her meddling matchmaking ways.

❧ I'm not gonna say this is the end of the Catalina Cove series just yet because it looks like Mama Laverne still got a few happy endings left to concoct and I also don't think I'm ready to say goodbye to the town of Catalina Cove just yet. But if this actually IS the end of this series, then I would say that I am happy how this small town series came to a close and hopefully someone can convince Mrs. Jackson to write a spin-off series. Them Bannister boys and Nolan still need HEAs, just saying...👀🌝

Just when you think Catalina Cove could not get any Sweeter! This has to be the book that makes me want to read every series from this remarkable Author. Brenda Jackson continues to elevate the all narratives of her books as this series continues on. I have not ever laughed aloud reading a book just as did with this one. This was a sweet story with Roman, Victoria, Tanner, and Lyric. And, as usual, Brenda Jackson brings the Sensual Escapades to Life! But,
Mama Laverne is the Prize in this Book #4 of this series. She gives a Treat saying, "I was just looking out for you!" ❤️

Brenda Jackson returns to Catalina Cove for another heartwarming story of love and happily ever after...times two!

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series and each new addition has me eager for a return visit to this idyllic little town on the Louisiana coast. If this was a real town I'd be booking a flight, packing my bags, and making plans to meet up with all my favorite Catalina Cove characters. Oh, and also making reservations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because fresh seafood (yum), baked delights from the apple orchard (double yum), and fresh blueberry muffins at the Witherspoon Café? Yes, please!

I'm partial to the friends-to-lovers trope, especially when the author takes her time with the couple and that's exactly what Jackson does with Roman and Victoria. I enjoyed their conversations, the subtle flirting, the time they took to discover common interests. By the time they explored the flames of their desire for one another they had built a solid foundation of mutual friendship, trust, and respect to support the love that was beginning to flourish and would, hopefully, see them through looming obstacles. Because, oh yes, there are obstacles.

The secondary romance in this book is also enjoyable though that couple has a very different dynamic from Roman and Victoria. The threads among the four characters intertwine enough to add complexity and tension to the story without creating an abundance of angst and the second HEA is a nice bonus. Plus, the twist at the end related to the secondary couple was a fun surprise I did not see coming.

Even though Follow Your Heart is the fourth book in the Catalina Cove series, it stands very well on its own. Readers new to the series can jump into Roman and Victoria's story without missing a beat. This book also has a tie-in to Jackson's popular Madaris series. Fans of that series will no doubt enjoy revisiting a few of those characters as well.

This is the fourth book in the Catalina Cove series, but can be read as a standalone. Victoria Madaris' great-grandmother is a matchmaker for the family and she is now looking for a match for Victoria. She decides on a match, but doesn't tell Victoria who it is, all Victoria knows is that rising US Senator Roman Malone is unsuitable. She is sure that Mama Laverne wants to match her with Tanner Jamison, a man that she is not attracted to. The more she sees Tanner around, the more sure she is that he is not the right man for her, and the more she sees Roman, she finds more and more that she likes about him. What is she to do, Mama Laverne is never wrong.

In the installment in the Catalina Cove series, Brenda Jackson served up a two-for-one romance. I thought that Victoria and Roman were a perfect match from the start, both driven, the same interests and immediately attracted to each other. They have known each other through family friends, but never really thought about a relationship before. It took awhile for Roman and Victoria to realize how much they were attracted to each other on several levels, and once they do, things do not go well. With both of them being celebrities in the area, there are people watching. There's is a well written friends to lovers trope, with quite a bit of sizzle and intimacy. Tanner and Lyric, the other couple were not quite as sweet together. Tanner was a womanizer and had interest in a relationship, he just wanted to use Lyric, "one and done" was his motto. Lyric was also not interested in a relationship, but eventually, their attraction to one another is too difficult to resist. Lyric is the one who resists and almost has Tanner begging her to give him a chance. This is a small town romance, so you know there will be some interactions between the two couples. There is a twist that causes some conflict and possible romance, but we do get two happily ever afters in this story. I will say that there are some rather descriptive sex scenes, so be warned. I did a read/listen with this book. The audiobook was narrated by Ron Butler. I found it interesting that it was a male narrator for a romance, but it worked. It was a good fit as most of the story is told from the POV of Tanner and Roman. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

It feels so good to be back! Back with the Madaris family that is. When I heard Victoria Madaris was up next I got so excited. I also knew this was going to be an easy read. She is the only one who actually WANTED help from Mama Laverne. She believed in her matchmaking capabilities and knew she would find the right man for her. However, she’s having doubts because the man she assumes is her “forever” isn’t falling in line and she is developing feelings for the handsome charismatic Senator Roman Malone Jr. In true Brenda Jackson style she penned two love stories outside the web of Mama Laverns meddling. Or did she really? LOL! I enjoyed Roman and Victoria together. Seeing their friendship move to lovers was a beautiful sight to see. I loved that Roman fell in love first. He knew he wanted a permanent relationship with Victoria and he made that happen. Having said that, I wanted more of a backstory about Victoria. Because she was so young and wasn’t mentioned much in the other Madaris books, I felt I didn’t know enough about her. This story is different from other Madaris stories. In this one, it focused more on the couple and wasn’t overpowered with heavy information sharing and cameos from a numerous Madaris family members. Not that I mind seeing the gang together again, but this book gave off a different vibe. Maybe it’s because it’s taken place in Catalina Cove and not Texas. I’m babbling LoL! Either way, I was fine with it. There is also a secondary romance included in this book. I especially liked that we got to see “playboy” Tanner Jamison find his forever. I honestly would’ve preferred Tanner having his own book. It was satisfying seeing him fight for a woman’s attention and I loved seeing his softer side. Both stories were simple with low angst. There is an issue created by Roman’s past lover that threatened both relationships but it wasn’t anything serious in my opinion. Also, the sex scenes weren’t descriptive enough. It came with way too many fade to black scenes. Plus, I would’ve liked more interactions with Roman’s family too. Just seemed like it was more Madaris focused. Overall it was a cute story.

Considering how simple the plot was, it would have read better had it been edited out to 200 odd pages rather than 700 page long, boring story it turned out to be. It really dragged too much.

Reading the series gives you a feeling of deja vu as the characters feel like carbon prints of previously written casts. There is no interesting character development or plot twists to keep you turning the pages.

The H's ex who was delusional and stalking him was actually the most interesting character in the story. At least she didn't give you too much deja vu. But even she had to be painted out to be a tramp to make H and h look extra good. It wasn't enough to make the unlamented ex look delusional and ambitious but the final nail in the coffin was all about making her look trashy with her multitude of affairs with many men to show the contrast between her and h.

Good book. I love it when an author has crossovers from two series, and this one combines Catalina Cove with the Madaris family. Here we have Victoria Madaris, a tv news anchor in New Orleans, living in Catalina Cove. She left Texas so she could succeed on her own merits and not because of her family name.

Victoria knows that she is next on her great-grandmother's matchmaking list. Unlike her male cousins and siblings, Victoria wants Mama Laverne's help because of her career and being burned in a previous relationship. She's a little bummed because Mama Laverne won't tell her who her match is. It seems the gentleman in question isn't ready to give up his bachelor ways, and Laverne doesn't want Victoria to spook him.

When she encounters Tanner Jamison several times, Victoria believes he is the chosen one. He's handsome, charming, and a friend of the family, so she already knows him a little bit. However, Tanner exhibits no interest in her, and she feels no sparks for him. She's willing to wait a while for him to see the light, but she won't put her life on hold while she does.

Then there is Roman Malone. The rising young senator came to Catalina Cove for some R and R. He plans to keep a low profile and spend his days fishing. Recently told that he needs to be married if he wants to progress up the party ladder, Roman made it plain that he will marry when he decides it's time and only for love. Having just escaped from a relationship with a woman with her own agenda, Roman is in no rush to start anything new. But sharing some quiet fishing trips and a few meals with family friend Victoria should be safe enough.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Roman and Victoria develop. Despite the sparks between them, Victoria insists that she's not available but is happy to hang out with Roman as a friend. I love the scenes of their fishing trips and meals as they get to know each other and discover how much they have in common. Though Victoria doesn't trust politicians, she admits that Roman is different than most. I liked seeing their friendship grow along with trust and respect. It doesn't take long for Roman to realize that he's smitten and wants more than friendship from Victoria. Meanwhile, thanks to irresistible chemistry with Roman and a lack of interest from Tanner, Victoria suspects that Mama Laverne may have been wrong this time. I loved that Victoria and Roman built a solid friendship before giving in to the desire that burned between them.

There is a second romance in the book that involves the MIA Tanner. He's horrified when his friends tell him of Mama Laverne's matchmaking successes and resolves to stay far away from Victoria. In the meantime, sparks fly with the building inspector for the club renovations he and his friends are doing. Tanner, who is supremely confident in his ability to charm any female, discovers that Lyric resists quite easily. Intrigued, Tanner goes all out to get closer to her and seduce her. I enjoyed seeing Lyric hold him off and make him work for her attention. I liked seeing Tanner fall hard while fighting against the inevitable. His misery after they parted ways was just reward for his past. I had to laugh at his conversation with his friend Blade, a previous recipient of Mama Laverne's attentions, and the truth he had to face. I liked Lyric and how she called out Tanner's attitude. She fell as hard as he did, but she had trust issues that held her back thanks to a former betrayal.

Meanwhile, Roman's ex-girlfriend won't accept Roman's defection willingly. Audria is a spoiled, selfish woman who will do anything to get what she wants, and she wants Roman. Her sneaky, underhanded actions aim to ruin Victoria's reputation and drive Roman back to her. I ached for all of the people involved in her attack. Victoria, especially, saw her worst fears come to pass. I loved the family support that helped her overcome those fears. I also loved the combination of efforts that fought back against Audria's machinations.

The ending was fantastic. I laughed at the conversations with Mama Laverne and all of the behind-the-scenes actions that led to that moment. While I suspected some of it, other parts came as a complete surprise. I can't wait to see what's next for Catalina Cove and also for the Madaris family. Mama Laverne has her sights set, and the targets are shaking in their shoes.

Brenda Jackson just may make me become a frequent reader of romance novels. I needed a break from the heavy yet eloquent prose that I normally read so I choose a few Black women romance novelists to try. Once I began to understand this novel - and genre - for what it is I appreciated this book even more. Yep, it was predictable, a little sappy, and quite steamy, it was exactly what I needed. A story that not one, but two Black couples have a happy ending is perfect for me. I loved the author's writing style and this book made me love reading again. I could not wait to get back to this story. Maybe I am on a high from the love story, but I enjoyed this one. It's the type of novel I would take on vacation though I highly recommend it for everyday pleasure reading.

Unexpected encounter

Words can’t express how great this double love story was. Roman stood out and wasn’t afraid to accept love early. Victoria was head strong and not willing to sit and wait for the wrong man. The unexpected twist at the end with 5e couples was funny because I had guessed most of it. It was great seeing the Madaris gang come together for family and love.

Finally

A new twist on things Ms. Brenda a smashing ending if I do say so myself. Ms. Felicia been putting em together since the early days. I’m glad we got us a two-for-one and it mixed the Madaris family with the Gems too and I love it. A woman scorned can be messy or in this case dismissed and checked. What a nice read even if it was a bit corny. Thanks again Ms. Brenda 🌹

The only reason that this got 3⭐️ is because of the surprising additional romance story that had more sexual tension and intensity.

In reading this book, I realized that no matter how many different books I read of hers, I do not like the ambiguity of Brenda Jacksons’s writing style. The descriptors along with the generic cover don’t help to identity what are everyone’s racial identities? Are they black? White? Idk. She’ll type something like his scruffy beard and long hair. If he’s white, sis, just say that. Not a fan of this style of writing.

Roman and Victoria’s story was dry. Victoria was so rigid in her beliefs I just couldn’t even see why Roman was interested. I don’t mind the matchmaker part of the story but the way Victoria kept saying she was promised to someone and hadn’t even spoken to Tanner on the phone was hard to relate to.

Tanner and Lyric’s story had more 🔥 but Tanner was not really likable.

dnf at page 132. i looked at some reviews and am SHOCKED that people consider tanner and lyric a "love" story and they end up together instead of tanner ending up in a jail cell for stalking and sexual harassment. are you f**king kidding me?! in what world is that romantic? she said no. that shouldve been the end of that. having been through stalking and harassment myself, it is NOT CUTE. this should never have been written.

This was an okay read. I liked the plot twist even though I didn't quite agree with the insta love since both men fell for their interests quite quickly. Also, the verbiage between the couple was quite antiquated. What 30 year old says "swell" on a day to day.

Victoria Madaris is next on the match-making list that her great-grandmother keeps. Felicia Madaris has a perfect record to date. She vets the candidates and then makes sure the romance follows through. Victoria does not seem to mind that her Felicia is meddling. She feels she does not have the time or energy to concentrate on love and finding the perfect husband. What she wants is someone who will love her the same way that she can love back.

Victoria lives in Catalina Cove even though she works in New Orleans. It is not a terrible drive and she puts up with it because she loves life in Catalina Cove. In New Orleans, she runs across Tanner Jamison and decides that he is the man Felicia has chosen for her. Then she runs into US Senator Roman Malone; she likes him but his being a politician turns her off. She is determined Tanner is the man she is destined to marry even though she knows he is a womanizer.

Roman needs time off in his career and his aide rents a yacht in Catalina Cove. She has met Roman before and thinks of him as a friend, certainly not a candidate for husband for her. She does come in contact with Tanner but feels no attraction for him at all. However she is beginning to feel attracted to Roman.

Roman and Victoria continue their friendship which eventually turns into a romance. Tanner in the meantime fights an attraction he feels for a woman who is the inspector for a construction he is working on. He does not want to give up being a bachelor.

It is fun to watch the two romances develop. A fun read!

Victoria Madaris is next on her great grandmother's matchmaking list . Victoria is all for it. In true matching fashion, she did not know who her great grandmother LaVerne had matched her with. Victoria thought she was matched with Tanner Jamison. Victoria was all for it. When she did see Tanner unexpectedly, he was polite but avoided her. Tanner was warned about the match making LaVerne Madaris and was determined not to be part of it.

Senator Roman Malone needed a break from a very hectic life. He rented a yacht and was staying in Catalina Cove. Victoria Madaris lived in Catalina Cove. Her and Roman met up and started seeing each other. Victoria was drawn to Roman but was cautious because she thought Tanner was who she was matched with. Tanner had met Lyric and started seeing her. He was determined to not fall for Mama LaVerne's match making scheme. It was a great book and very entertaining. In the end Mama LaVerne was right. She matched two couples. Cannot wait to read the next book on who she targets for her matchmaking.

Some People Just Have to Grow on You!

"Follow Your Heart", Brenda Jackson's latest installment in the "Catalina Cove" series, was quite the page turner. Beginning with Mama Laverne's cryptic message to Victoria about her fated love life, to the revelation at the story's end concerning false assumptions, the plot focuses on Victoria and Roman, with a collateral connection to Tanner and Lyric, and the nefarious machinations of the social climber Audria. All's well that ends well, however, as with all of Jackson's HEA romances, and even Tanner became likable in contrast to his unapologetic arrogance and conceit that diminished his likability factor throughout 75% of the novel. After he became involved with Lyric, though, he began to reveal a more vulnerable side that redeemed his earlier persona. With her mission accomplished, Mama Laverne is now free to latch on to her next matchmaking "victims". 🤗

A Mix-up Made in Heaven.

Having fallen in love with the Catalina Cove series, I looked forward to the next book. When I discovered that the incomparable Felicia Laverne Madaris would be utilizing her amazing matchmaking skills in it, my desire to read it became even greater!
I was definitely not disappointed! This book is a romantic comedy of errors , and all I could think about as I read it was this quote from Shakespeare, "The course of true love never did run smooth."
This book made me fall in love with some new characters, while enjoying reuniting with some familiar old ones! It's a delightful journey into love, set in the beautiful background of Catalina Cove. Did Mama Laverne make her first matchmaking mistake? You'll have to read this book to find out!!

Roman and Victoria's CatalinaCv Love Tryst! 3.75***** Spoiler Alert

Victoria, all grown up and anchoring at a local New Orleans news headquarters met and quickly befriended Senator Roman Malone, old family friend in dire need of a low keyed vacation. Together they initially bonded over fishing, and rapidly moved up to lovers. Dodging GrandMa Felicia ??match with Tanner, who fell in love with Lyric , the two men publicly professed their love for their mates. Audria's scheme backfired, and Roman and Victoria maybe heading to become POTUS/FLOTUS.

Great characters with a predictable plot and outcome. Enjoyed the theme of following ones heart, but leading with your head at all times. Romantic verbophiles would enjoy this fast read novel.
