This was pleasant and engaging. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Supergirl—alongside an alien child—on a cosmic journey, weaving together themes of justice, vengeance and resolve.

In this first chapter though, it focuses on Ruthye’s perspective as she tries to go on a dangerous mission. I picked this up mainly because I was drawn to Bilquis Evely’s art. Needless to say, every page felt like stepping into another world. Regarding the characters, Supergirl remains a badass, as we all know. Ruthye, on the other hand, is fiercely resolute, and her innocence never fails to come through—which I appreciate. After all, I did not want to read about a kid seeking vengeance while dismissing her child-like behavior just to portray a strong-willed persona.

Overall, a nice introduction to a promising story, but not entirely remarkable.

This was a decent start. I love most of King's stuff but this didn't blow me away. I did like his supergirl and she's a badass, especially the end. But not in love with the world we're on but we'll see how it goes.

A 3 out of 5.

An unbelievably average start for a King mini series...

Please, never ever put a piss-yellow-coloured hue over a whole comic book. Every single page looked urine soaked and bland. The art, was solid, but you can't tell that because there's this horrible tinge of yellow dowsed over it all. The story itself is meh, and reads like Cloonan's Wonder Woman a bit, just replace talking Squirrels with Krypto, and that's basically all there is to it. I don't get Tom King at all; His stories aren't superhero stories, they're depressing wannabe-edgy Vertigo books from 20 years ago.

First comic down and many more to go! As a lover of supergirl I thought it would be in my best interest to start reading with a comic book that aligned with her story.

This was a very calm/quick and easy start but I which this could’ve been longer even though it’s the first out of eight

I have had very little exposure to the Supergirl character. I got this because Tom King is writing it. It's fairly wordy (not necessarily in a bad way) and it reads, looks and feels like epic science fiction/fantasy. Unexpected but a pleasant surprise.

As a fantasy geek, I'm digging this take on Supergirl. The art is pretty cool and its got this TOR publications vibe to it. However it would be nice if they had her new 50s housewife outfit in this title, but thats just a personal preference. Also Hungover Supergirl is WGW !

Another single issue comic library download. I'd much prefer reading the story as a collection. We'll see if I remember to check back in.

I really wanted to enjoy this comic but I just didn’t. I’m new to comics and this story was recommended for people getting into comics but I just found the story boring.

I was confused on why Ruthye was the narrator of the story and why the story was more focused on her than Supergirl. I get Supergirl was trying to teach Ruthye a lesson but I barely knew Supergirl as a character I felt like knew nothing about her by the end of the story.

I didn’t like Ruthye’s dialogue. She went on and on and I found myself wishing it would just end already.

I’m also just tired of the whole “killing is wrong.” This dude went to multiple different planets and committed mass genocide and felt no remorse and in the end they decided to show him mercy. And what happened to the other aliens that joined him in destroying planets they just walked away scot-free.

I will say the only thing I did enjoy was the art style. It was beautiful and I loved starting at the art work.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Tom King and Bilquis Evely (DC)

I picked this issue up at a local comic shop just after the run received a 2022 Eisner nomination for “Best Limited Series”. The TPB isn’t due out until 7/25/2022. I’ve had some “ups and downs” with writer Tom King but respect his ceiling is pretty high when he’s on his game (e.g. “Mister Miracle”). I wasn’t familiar with Artist (Bilquis Evely) but thought the art was very appealing throughout. The plot was pretty simple/straightforward. The characters and motivation were good (not necessarily great). I definitely enjoyed the first issue well enough to seek out the rest and give it a real go.

I absolutely love the tone that this first issue establishes — it’s got the feel of a classic pulp sci-if tale imbued with contemporary sensibilities. This really comes through in the writing, contrasting Ruthye’s eloquent narration with Supergirl’s wry, brusque, often profane dialogue. This is fitting for the clash of cultures trope at the center of the story, as Supergirl feels out of place in this feudal far-off planet.

Plus the art is so, so stunning. Bilquis Evely is officially my new favorite comic artist.

Krypto no molesta.

I’ve been wanting to read this comic because I started watching CW’s Supergirl and fell in love with Kara Zor-el, and true to my fangirl hyperfixation tendencies, I want to know and read everything I can about Kara, and this comic is SO GOOD. Kara is such a comfort character for me and I love how she’s portrayed here.
I’m so excited to see how the DCU adapts this work into a future Supergirl movie.

And yes, I’ll be binge reading every issue of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the rest of the night.

“But until that day, I never saw anyone so unafraid of death that they understood in their heart and belly a simple and perfect truth—
There was no one alive stronger than they.”

Honestly started reading Woman of Tomorrow because some random person on Twitter recommended someone else to read it before watching Superman (2025). I haven’t seen the movie yet but I’m excited for Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.

This was a decent introduction to Supergirl’s character. Enough hook to make me keep reading (considering I’m not a big comic reader). And the art is lovely.

What could be better than an epic journey mixed with the superhero elements that attract us to comics in the first place? For fans of Tolkien-like journeys and superheroes, this comic will be your bread and butter. Learn about joy, kindness, empathy, and revenge as you set sail across the universe with superwoman, and enjoy the beautiful artwork that fills the pages. Whether it’s the seriousness or the whimsy, there’s something in this comic that’ll truly move you.

An interesting book.
Shows Super Girl in a new light.
A much more mature story, most of it involving her getting her ass kicked on planets with a red sun
( negating her Kryptonian powers ) or getting her ass kicked by magic.
I think the point was to grow her up a little from Superman's little cousin.

I mostly love the art, but I find the tavern fight/exchange to be needlessly confusing. Everything is tight and disorienting in a way that doesn't feel effective to me.

Story-wise: ummm... I'm interested! I'm embarrassed to say I'm new to her, but I think Supergirl's frankness does a lot for me to want to see issue #2.

This book was recommended by a friend. I also never knew Tom King's story.
This was a straight plot comic. Good from the beginning to the end. The artwork was nice. The narration of this book was long, deep and many times intense. You definitely felt the connection to the two main characters and the different worlds. A nice read.

an unexpected surprise! this came recommended to me by my cousin and i’m glad i gave it a try despite not reaching for comics almost ever. i think that’s why it took me so long to actually start it too… loved the art style and the story was pretty decent - unexpectedly wordy and rather predictable but still enjoyable nonetheless!

more around a 4.5 but i’m just so in love with the story. SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW begins with a bang. such an awesome introduction to the series, and bilquis evely’s art is just fantastic. kara zor el is electric and immediately wins you over. ruthye is a bit annoying, but she grows on you. the issue ends with a really devastating event so… watch out.
