The bad boy and good girl of Oak Bend get their second chance at love in When You Were Mine by Mila Nicks. This story was full of all the feels you expect for a second chance with a few added little twists.

Penelope & Dylan were high school loves who thought they could make their own future together by running off with fake ID's and getting married. Things didn't plan out so well for either of them and now six years later Dylan is

4 star review of When You Were Mine (Blue Collar Romance #6) by Mila Nicks

I love my visits to Oak Bend and reading the Blue Collar Romance series I have found numerous new authors to me such as Mila Nicks. This is a second chance at love story that ticked a number of boxes for me. It was well written with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in.

Second chance romance at it’s finest!

Penelope Spark, sweet good girl and Dylan Turner reckless bad boy are fresh from high school graduation. They are celebrating with their best friends in Atlantic City. Far from home with fake IDs they think they are invincible. Their fun and games are cut short when they land in jail for the night. This is the end of their romance.

Six long years later, Dylan comes home from his time in the military and find his hometown looks the same. But when he sees Pen s

This was a sweet story about two people who were each other's, first love. It was a quick, easy read.

However, my problem with it was I knew exactly what the "secret that's six years in the making" was before I even opened the book. The blurb gave away what should've or could've been the biggest twist. Or maybe not but for me it took something away from this book because I expected it. It was a shock or surprise.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A love story interrupted has the chance to begin again. Young love, adult heartache and a precocious little girl are at the center of a second chance that seems long overdue. When You Were Mine is a slow burn dance of love that proves to be a haunting experience. Dylan and Pen wrap themselves so tightly around the heart, that you may have a hard time getting it back.

I tried. I really did. But I honestly don't care about second-chance romance for a couple of 24 year olds. I do not care! Add 20 years to the MCs age and then I'll give a damn. Ugh!

When You Were Mine, the 6th book in the Blue Collar Romance Series was my first Mila Nicks read. I loved this sweet, steamy second chance romance. Pen and Dylan have a lot to catch up on after six years of being apart. Second chance is my one of my favorite tropes. I love the pull between lovers who’ve been torn apart even when there’s still something between them. Ms. Nicks did not disappoint with Pen and Dylan. I loved their night out and their little competition on the ball field at the high ...more

Penelope stays in Oak Bend and eventually opens her own candle store. Dylan moves back to Oak Bend after being in the military and runs into his long lost love, Penelope. When You Were Mine: A Second Chance Romance (Blue Collar Romance Book 6)
Mila Nicks

I am in love with romance. I have an affinity for romance novels because I read only young adult novels when I was a teenager. I dreamed more of being in love than of not being in love 💘 Even though I enjoy young adult romance, I must admit that when I was growing up, the majority of romance novels did not feature minorities or even interracial couples. Therefore, I believe it is necessary to promote writers l

POV: Dual (1st Person)
Tropes: Second chance, Single mum

Triggers: Teenage pregnancy

Likes: I liked how this book wasn't full of miscommunication, the big secret gets revealed quite early on. This allowed for some great fiery drama towards the end that wasn't all just because they didn't talk to each other!

Dislikes: It was slightly too sweet and insta-love for me. But that's just personal taste.

Part of the Blue Collar Romance series, this book features Penelope (Pen) and Dylan. They were intensely in love in high school, despite their social status differences. After they take a road trip to Atlantic City with their friends and are arrested, life falls apart. Dylan takes responsibility for everything in his mind and enlists in the Air Force but never tells Pen his plan. She holds a secret that comes to light a bit later. I loved how they met again, and all was revealed fairly quickly. ...more

While this is a part of a series, you don't have to read the prior ones to enjoy and understand it. This author is new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the nuances that she put into healing a fractured relationship and getting a second chance at the first love.

Dylan loves Pen and Pen loves Dylan. Unfortunately life got messy for the two of them. Dylan joined the Air Force after the summer of their high school graduation. H

Bad boy plus good girl plus parents that care too much equals broken hearts and secrets. Teenage Dylan flies by the seat of his pants and often takes those around him down with him. One night, after graduating from high school, a trip to Atlantic City means the end to his relationship with Penelope. He leaves after enlisting in the Air Force and she finds out she's pregnant. Fast forward 6 years and he returns to town only to find h

I really enjoyed this book and the build up. I felt so many moments where I could tell something bad was going to happen and then BAM!! I love that so much!!!

Dylan made me swoon from the beginning and while I wasn’t so sure his idea was best, I probably would’ve gone along with him too just because he was so romantic!!! I thought many different things about him throughout the book but they were ALWAYS positive and never went negative… which is rare for me!!!

These Blue Collar romances are just amazing! I always enjoy visiting Oak Bend. This series has introduced me to a whole slew of new authors which are just so talented. This is the sixth book of the series and the author did a nice job of delivering a delightful and sweet second chance romance that's full of heart and emotion. Stephannie's 5 Star Review:

Firefighter Dylan Turner and single mom Penelope Spark are the main characters. They use to date in high school and a little bit after until Dylan when into the military. She is the woman he left behind six years ago and she was heartbroken when he left ended their romance. Dylan moves back to town and ends up in the apartment next door to Penelope. Penelope and Dylan are high school sweethearts with the classic bad boy/good girl vibe but in reality Dylan was a good guy just made some bad choices. Unfortunately, he did not realize that Penelope life would change forever when he shut her out and went away. Six years later they meet up again and to his surprise Penelope has been a single mom raising his daughter. I love that the author got right into Penelope telling Dylan and his acceptance of having a child. Penelope and Dylan initially jum ...more

The hero and heroine were once high school sweethearts and loved each other very much. The hero left town for his own reasons and joined the military. Penelope Spark’s is a single mom to her six-year-old daughter Tabitha and owner of a candle shop in Oak Bend. Dylan Turner is a firefighter who walked out of Penelope’s life 6 years ago leaving behind a secret that he knows nothing about. Dylan is back in town and has just rented an apartment next door to Penelope.

The town bad boy - Pen's bad boy - left her and Oak Bend and never looked back. He needs to ground himself after leaving the Air Force, and comes back home, unknowingly renting the apartment next door to Pen. And her daughter. Their daughter. I love that Pen does the right thing by telling Dylan about Tabitha right away, encouraging their father-daughter relationship. As Pen and Dylan begin a new relationship, they find the elephant in the room - the resentment they both harbor about their break ...more

When You were Mine is a second chance romance that involves single mother Penelope and bad boy Dylan. I did ultimately enjoy this one. I liked the chemistry between Penelope and Dylan. Their history made their romance more enjoyable. I also enjoyed the relationship that grew between Dylan and Tabitha. She was a cute kid.

There was one thing that kind of bugged me about the story. I thought the way Dylan was demonized for his leaving was not fair. When he told Penelope about going into the Air Fo

When You Were Mine is part of a series, it is a series where each book is written by a different author, with a different set of characters and the common setting of Oak Bend. I have enjoyed each book so far and When You Were Mine is the perfect next book for this series.

I liked the characters. Dylan and Penelope were fun with real lives and realistic issues. I liked that their past was an issue, but it was an issue that they were willing to work through and talk about. They were able to figure

I really enjoyed this novel of second chances. Penelope fell in love with the bad boy of Oak Bend. On a disastrous graduation trip she was minutes away from marrying him because he persuaded her too, until her Father showed up. Six years later he shows up as her next door neighbor. This “alpha male” left Oak Bend to figure out his life but returned home a full grown man. In training at the Fire Department I appreciate that “Dyl” stood up an faced his life an was an honest man. Penelope fell in love with Dylan when they were teenagers until events tore them apart and he left town with no further contact. She is not the same person as she now owns her own business and is a single mother, so she was unprepared to find out that her first love was now her neighbor.

Dylan left town not because he didn’t love Penelope but because he did. After serving his country he has returned home and is now a firefighter. The chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever but

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars from this one as I didn't really enjoy it I'm sorry to say. The writing was good and it certainly hasn't put me off reading the author again but it's the story itself I had problems with. Firstly it involved a secret baby which I seldom like as there usually is some flimsy reason for the father not having been told, as there was in this case, which means both he and the chi!d have unfairly missed out on a lot of years. I also didn't really see why Dylan was deeme ...more
