It nicely teaches peculiar animal names (nothing about them) and is useful for reviewing basic phonics. But there’s no real message about self-belief, more so perseverance or cheating others… to be honest the whole book would have worked far better without the stick insect.
Sometimes I wish children’s authors would realise that books don’t always need a morale.
