In the third book of Nicole Warner's Three Times Blessed Series, Anais and Eadred's intriguing story continues. With grave doubts cast on their relationship, they must rise above damaging accusations of treason, protecting themselves from exposure even as the rift between King Edmund and his younger cousin widens. With nowhere safe to turn, they both make irrevocable choices. One runs from destiny. The other embraces danger on every level.
Anais, chafing under the restrictive role of queen and wife, sets herself to learning every trick of Warren's trade but, as she makes risky forays into Sidem, she uncovers fresh perils; ones that are almost her undoing. Eadred, escaping from the awful carnage in Arnil Wale, enlists as a warden, turning his back on his heritage and title. Assuming an identity as far from royal life as he can imagine, he soon discovers his past isn't so easily forgotten.
Despite attempts to keep their distance, events conspire to reunite them, forcing them to acknowledge just how many rules they're willing to break to be together.
As an old enemy returns, new gifts emerge within them, powerful enough to shake the world to its roots.
"Words alone cannot tell the entirety of our story. For we are the sum of our experiences. Written through the call of our heart."
My escape into the third book of the Three Times Blessed Series did not disappoint. In turning the pages the story unravels an intricately woven puzzle of partially revealed information which kept me guessing and wanting more. The aptly titled 'Devotion' is a tale of passion, commitment and adventure in a land brought to life in a magical way. Nicole Warner cleverly keeps us on tenterhooks wondering what next. Book four cannot come soon enough!
Oh boy, did this book deliver and leave me hanging at the same time! Another intriguing book full of wonderful dialogue, great descriptions and fast-moving action. The characters go on quite a journey of discovery and the third book in this series had me devouring the pages, hoping that the two main characters would finally get together. But I’m getting ahead of myself. After the horrible events at the end of book 2, Eadred finally accepts he can’t cope with his royal position or being denied a future with Anais so he ups and leaves his life and enlists with the wardens, which I believe are like the police of this world. As for Anais, she is shown further evidence of just how unequal her position is compared to the King and must put up with him taking mistress after mistress, all with a smile on her face. But, with her newfound ally, Warren, she begins to take back a little bit of control and learns how to become a spy, something she is actually pretty good at. It certainly opens up her role in ways I didn’t expect, because being a queen isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Again, the author didn’t attempt to skirt the gritty realities of life but rather used it to explore the characters through unexpected situations.
When the King leaves the city and palace for a holiday at the coast with his mistress and the rest of the court, Anais is left behind. It’s then that magical circumstances conspire to bring them back together but, of course, things aren’t that easy as secrecy is still paramount. A part of Eadred’s past comes back to haunt him and this is the final impetus which makes the two finally admit their feelings. By this stage, they’re both developing strange magical abilities and the fantasy element to the story starts to come into its own. But again, the end of the book brings some shocking surprises and twists that I didn’t see coming but on a quick flick back through the pages, I found those little nuggets that warned of it! I love that attention to detail as the overarching narrative really begins to show itself.
Another–highly recommended–for this book. The author is weaving the story into something that is both immensely satisfying but leaving me desperate for the next book. The wonderful pomp and ceremony of royal life is balanced out by the darker aspects of how women were treated in those centuries, again reminiscent of European royal courts, but in Eadred, Anais has found a true hero. More than that, she’s such a strong character herself, keeping her chin up in situations that no one would choose to experience. If you’re looking for a breathtaking series to devour one book after another, then this is the one for you. I look forward to the next in the series!
Another brilliantly written instalment in the three times blessed series. In Devotion, we are exposed to far more of the metaphysical aspects within the world that intertwine between Eadred’s and Anais’ individual and collective experiences. I particularly enjoyed the action sequences in the book, they are written so fluently and paint real vivid imagery. The development of the protagonists’ relationship throughout Devotion was really well fleshed out, even with their distance. It has the best ending yet out of the series with a cliffhanger that makes me eager to pick up the next book ‘Portent’.
Wow, where do I even begin! Nicole has written yet another incredible book in her series, one that captivated me from the beginning needing to know what happens next! Devotion was perfectly balanced with romance and action, and again left an ending full of questions! I cannot wait for book 4 to be released.
I really enjoyed the third book in this series. I loved how the two main characters found each other. It was filled with intriguing fantasy elements and great action sequences and most of all it left me keen for the next book!
Book three didn’t disappoint. This fantasy series continues to grow showing us how power and control from one King can change everything. The challenges one faces with nobility, duty and honour. A star crossed love story continues to develop and unfold in this beautifully written book.
Amazing! This novel has continued to flesh out Nicole’s brilliantly written characters, world and plot in this already engrossing and captivating series. Can’t wait to read book 4!
Intrigue and suspense at an all time high in book number 3 of this exciting series. As the characters mystical gifts are further revealed, a potential new threat emerges to tear their worlds apart.
