In the Unitam Realm, power determines where you belong.

Blind, orphaned witch Claire has spent her entire life wondering where she belonged.

She’s grown up in a small coven on the outskirts of the Unitam Realm. While the teasing about her blindness hurts, the ridicule the coven members give her about her orphan status cuts deeper. What kind of disappointment do you have to be to have your parents abandon you?

When the semi-sentient Academy sends her an acceptance letter, she's sure it's a mistake. If she doesn't belong at Windshire, she surely won't belong at the Academy. But what does she have to lose?

As she navigates new friends, intense classes, and professors who seem to be split on whether she will pass or fail, her power starts to unravel inside of her, leaving Claire with more questions about her parents and where she belongs.

And why does the Stonemont Triad (Desmond, the charming wizard, Everett, the silent Gryphon, and Malcolm, the grumbly Dragon) want to get to know a low-level witch like her?

This is a slow-burn HEA RH and the first book in the series. Slight cliffhanger at the end.

Mixed feelings.
I liked the FMC, but she also irritated me at times. The MMCs were also alright... but something was missing.

Needs an editor

Has potential, but definitely needs an editor. Problems with tense, plenty of run-on sentences. Distracting name changes. A round of editing could make a world of difference.

Really good

Enjoyable read. I really liked this book, I loved our H, loved her friends, loved her guys. Mystery seems to be around every corner, who is our H? Who are her parents? And what does her new found power mean? It flows beautifully in all aspects, I even loved how nice and wholesome our H was all around. My one and only issue I had was how our H constantly thought so low of herself. Her self doubt did become almost like a broken record over time. Her constantly feeling unworthy just because she was blind was something I really hated. Other then that I really recommend this read.

I didn’t have any major problems with the story. The heroine at the moment is underwhelming due to her low self esteem but she’s likable enough. People call her sweet and kind and she has unique powers. Her Mary Sue-ness is making up for her lack of personality for me.

The romance is moving slowly but the men are sweet to her so there is no assholishness to worry about. That might make things boring moving forward. There needs to be at least a little tension between them or everything will feel robotic..

This series has been on my radar ever since the first book released and everyone was so enthusiast about this story. I even bought a Kindle copy. However, it seems that outside of review copies I still prefer reading physical books. Mostly because I love the act of taking a book out of the TBR bookcase and putting it into its final place with its read peers after finishing. So, a few weeks ago I got myself a physical copy of this book and today I read my Kindle version! (sigh...)

Maybe my high expectations were ruining the reading experience a little at times, but it's also hard to pinpoint why this book wasn't the wow-experience I was hoping it to be. I guess it partly has to do with the very lengthy descriptions of the world. It makes sense to include them since both the reader (quite often trying to paint a picture or movie) and the heroine (blind) need them, but I'm an emotion reader and descriptions never really stick.

It also partly had to do with the fact that there was a lot of info-dumping in this book. That also makes sense, since our heroine has been kept ignorant of magic and politics all her life and is now thrown into the middle of it, but still. There were times where the explanations didn't feel real or natural. However, I still started caring about the characters and I'm insanely curious to discover how this series will end.

Despite its flaws I also enjoyed reading this book. The writing style is to the point and yet never feels short or childish. The plot might be a little predictable and cliche, but has so many sweet and nice moments that I can't help but smile while reading them. And then there are the guys. I love these three guys and the way the author combined personality and mythology. It's so easy to remember who's who because it simply makes sense!

So, I'm really excited to dive into the next book!

Super generic academy RH with an evil council and a Mary Sue h who, of course, has her magic bound. There’s really not much to say about the story because I’ve read some version of this story 100 plus times. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The sentient academy was probably the most interesting part of the series.

This would have been more enjoyable had the guys been more alpha and more aggressive. They’re beta Hs which is weird since two are shifters. I was really annoyed that they did nothing to handle the situation with Vivienne or any other situation. They’re fine to just sort of sit by and get angry on her behalf but not take any action. It was freaking weird to have such passive Hs with this storyline.

I don’t know if I’ll eventually read the other books. There isn’t any real heat or chemistry between the characters. I zoned out at one point and was like “oh they’re kissing”. I should not be zoning out during scenes with affection in a romance. 🙃 That coupled with the generic storyline doesn’t have me rushing to download book two. I am curious to see if she’s elven or fae and if we are going to meet any characters from those races so I may jump back in one day.

Overall: 2.5 due to pussy ass weak men who just growl and whine instead of take action.

Okay. Not sure I will continue the series. There is very little angst so if.you are looking for that, this is for you. I wish there was more drama. More of anything. Bland.

I liked the idea of this book and it has potential. The problem is that I always had the feeling that the plot moved to slow and somehow I still don't know where it is heading. The relationship building was slow and I enjoyed this part of the book. I also liked the side characters, who took good care of the FMC, when she didn't know that the guys were courting her.

The book is a three stars read. Good but at the moment I wouldn't continue the series.

It was good except it seems like there wasn't that much plot progression in what was an entire school year. It also didn't feel like a whole school year had passed during the course of the book. It skipped ahead in a couple places, but even still, I was surprised that the school year was over at the end of the book.

As for the characters, Claire and her friends were quite likeable. The heroes, Desmond, Everett and Malcolm were likable as well. They all were very sweet to Claire and I enjoyed their interactions with her. One thing I didn't like was how they held themselves back romantically from Claire, including the knowledge of what she was to them, for a good portion of the book. Supposedly it was to protect her, but why? I get that the council is very interested in the guy's triad, but wouldn't they be happy that they had found their mate. I don't see what they were trying to protect her from. She was more vulnerable when they were keeping their distance. That just didn't make sense to me. I also didn't like how some students and the mean girl made fun of her blindness and orphan status and the heroes did practically nothing to stop it. Then there were the lies that Vivianne made up that really hurt Claire. It took them forever to catch onto that. In fact, someone had to tell them about it.They really dropped the ball on that one.

Overall, it was interesting. I just don't know if it interested me enough to read the next book.

Was It Just Me?...

Okay, for real was it just me or did this book start off like Claire was in the middle ages or like on the set of Little House on the Prairie? Then all of sudden once Claire, got to the school we enter the modern world. Did anyone catch that or was it just me?

Anyway, I so enjoyed this storyline! It's crazy because this book has been recommended and I've seen a couple of my Goodreads friends who has read it, but I never thought I would be interested in this heroine plights or how she would overcome them... I had a "whatever" attitude and didn't want be bother!
Well guys let me tell you that I was a bone head and ended up enjoying the heck out of the book!
I'm not into giving away the storyline about a book just take my word for it and read it! I promise you won't be disappointed if you love sweet, innocent, but brave heroines!

** Needed an audiobook today so I could wrap presents. I didn't love it, the narrator made Claire seem way more unsure and self conscious and passive from how I read her in the book :(.

Rereading to refresh for book two. Still amazing! 😍

Loved it!

I haven't had a book like this in awhile!! You know the ones where you keep checking your progress because you don't want it to end. In this book clair, a blind orphan, begins her journey when she's accepted into an elite magic academy (and yes ... She actually attends class) where meets her three soul mates and learns of the magic she has hidden inside buried beneath her insecurities and a block someone placed on her.
Could be a future five star read, I'll let you know on my reread. Next book is supposed to be out October '21

** Wasn't perfect though, the editing and pacing could be improved upon.

Not a bad start to a new to me series and new to me author. This author does a decent job writing I really liked the writing style. Unfortunately I found some parts bothersome. It was difficult for me to tell exactly how much time had truly passed. I didn’t like how they would train but we didn’t really get to see them get closer. We see magic and runes, but we don’t get to see her men who can shift, shift. The shifter aspect wasn’t really talked about much except to purr, growl, or the like. Vivianne is going to become a problem overall of course. That was a bit of a let down having the typical bitchy girl who has to warn another girl off. But it’s also truly typical too. So it works.

There are a few repeated words or saying where something will be explained but then it’s reiterated a few lines later not long enough for the reader to have forgotten which was somewhat annoying.

I have some suspicions on Claire’s origin but I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.

Kept me awake at night

I was a bit sceptical reading the blurb. I wasn't sure how a blind FMC would make it🤔 (no prejudice at all here!!!) BUT let me tell you that you shouldn't stop at that and you must read this book!
Claire is a pure soul. Raised in an orphanage and despised all her life because she was a weak witch, she wasn't bitter. Always polite, trying to avoid disturbing people (even if she didn't at all), it was pleasant reading about her debut at the Academy.
What I appreciated more is that everybody were kind, and understanding without pitying her. Of course, there were the jealous b*tch and her friends but the bullying wasn't too much.
About the harem, no assh*le, just nice guys who recognized immediately Claire as theirs without prejudices or being disappointed because of her lack of power. And it was sooo refreshing!!! 😊😊
So if you want to read a serie with positive vibes wich isn't lame or corny, don't hesitate!

Brilliant debut novel

Highly enjoyable debut novel. The characters, world and magic’s were so well portrayed throughout this book. Character development and relationships were well cultivated and the budding romance was all excellently depicted. I’m looking forward to reading book 2.

one of the best slow burn magical books I’ve read

Wow. I stayed up all night reading this. The world building is vibrant, the characters are easily distinguished, have a sense of humor, and are fiercely protective of their fourth. I can’t wait to read the second book! Very satisfying. 10 out of 5 stars.

Sweet, warm, cosy, and a very slow burn.

Still RH, but no spice.

I didn't laugh out loud often but had a smile plastered on my face throughout the book.

Hopefully, the next book will be as good.
I'm definitely reading on!

Cayley this is a message to yourself. This wasn't good. She called herself an orphan no less than 200 times in the first 15%.
I get it...you're a fucking orphan. So Cayley when you read this don't go back, it won't get better and no another chance is not needed.

Reeeee insta love. Reeee Mary Sue. Reeeee low self esteem.

Interesting world building. I can see why many people liked this book and if you find the blurb interesting you should definitely give it a go. But it was a bit slow and not enough steam for my taste, I probably won't be reading the next installment.

This book really needs more editing. Some paragraphs switch to present tense abruptly for no good reason, and there are also paragraphs where present and past tense is mixed. Normally, grammatical errors would make me stop reading, but the incidences weren't that frequent, thankfully, and at least there weren't spelling errors (words that sound the same but spelt differently). Minus one star for this because I just feel it's so rudimentary to get your work edited before putting it up for sale.

There are a few continuity errors and I still don't understand why the Triad doesn't want the Council to find out that Claire is their Fourth. If the bond is supposed to be so sacred, what could the Council do about it, anyway? Why would they even want to do anything? Sure, the Triad is strong, why does that have the Council watching them carefully, and why does this make them want to stay at the Academy which neutral ground and under the headmaster's protection? And why is it that nobody discusses how inappropriate it is for her to be a mate of her instructors (Malcolm and Desmond)? She isn't even moved out of Malcolm's class, and Malcolm has already admitted to going easier on the class due to her presence there.

However, I like the fact that she is blind, because it's rare to have a lead character with any kind of physical disability, and it is treated seriously. Her friends describe the layout of rooms and buildings on the Academy grounds to her, to help her navigate, and she is given a magical 'guidance orb' which would also help to guide her to wherever she needs to go within the Academy if there are no people to help. She uses a reading spell to read books out loud to her and a writing spell to help her take notes in class. Unfortunately the ending is another reason why I've taken off one star.

I liked the conundrum that is Claire, trying to figure out why the Academy would have selected her to attend, and how she discovers more about herself and gradually comes into her own. I liked the guys' slow courting, how they spent time with her and tried to be discreet and not overwhelming, looking out for her wherever they could. I've always had a soft spot for the fated mate trope and I loved that all the men recognised her as their fated mate the moment they met her. I would say that Claire is a bit TOO good and kind-hearted (really, how can anyone NOT want to stick a dagger into a witch like Vivienne?) which makes her a wee bit unrelatable. And why must there always be OW drama?

I did like her friends though. I was glad that she had others in her corner, not just her mates. And her mates are lovely. Malcolm the growly dragon, Ethan the solemn gryphon, and Desmond the teasing wizard... what's not to like?

The book does end with a cliffhanger, although not a really bad one (not like in the middle of something). I want to read book 2.

Reverse Harem Academy

This is the first book in a series. The story comes to a natural break, but it definitely leaves you wanting more.

Claire is a low-level witch, who still lives in the orphanage she was raised in, despite long being past the age of majority. She can do a few basic spells but hasn’t really had much training, because of being declared a low-level witch. As she’s also blind, there is nowhere else for her to go. She has a quiet life, mainly gardening, which she loves, and reading, using a spell to read books out loud to her. She doesn’t have any friends and has always been bullied. Then one day she is called into the Mother’s office and she is told that she is to attend the Realm’s Academy where the best and the brightest witches and shifters got to learn how to be the best examples of their races. Confused at the opportunity, she knows she has no other choice but to go.

As soon as Desmond, Everett and Malcom meet Claire, they know she is not only their Fourth, but also their respective Soul Flame and Mate. It is unheard of a Triad all being mated to their Fourth, but they know it’s true. Not wanting to scare away their ‘Little Witch’ they decide to keep their distance as she settles in to her very new and challenging life.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s not the most original of plots, or the best execution but I really liked the characters. I particularly liked that Claire makes friends before she becomes too attached to her Triad. Her friends are there for her all the way from the beginning. They are supportive and protective and provide invaluable guidance. It is through these friends that we learn about the much larger world that Claire finds herself in after leaving her very small and isolated home town.

The world building is interesting but there are big gaps, which I believe will be explained further in the series as there are references to the world outside the Academy and potentially visiting her friends’ homes. I understand the author wanting to spend this first book examining the characters to draw the reader in, but I would have preferred a little more information about the world in which they lived.

On the whole, this was an engaging and enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series when it’s published.

It definitely is a slow burn romance, but I did enjoy reading a book with a blind main character. I didn’t enjoy how naive Claire was, I thought she was supposed to be college level age but the way she acted was at a maybe freshman in high school age. It made the relationships with the men feel a little weird to me, but I still enjoyed reading this book. I won’t be continuing to the next one, but if you are looking for something different or a break from the same kind of RH paranormal romance stories this one is for you!

I enjoyed this book, it was an interesting plot. I am curious to what this story will takes us. The heroin Claire was a sweetheart and also very kind. I got sad over the fact that she had such low self-esteem and she thought she was not good enough. It got to a point that it was too much that we heard the same thing getting repeated of how she was not worthy at all. I understand why tho cuz she grew up being bullied. I am happy that the guys where so sweet to her, she really needed some guys doting on her and helping her self esteem. Got damn that bitch Vivianne or what her names is, i was so pissed at her for spitting lies and being a bitch to the heroin. She was a annoying fly that i wanted to punch in the face. ofc you target the sweetest shyest girl, the easy prey (or so she thinks)
I liked the three of em, Everett, Malcom and Desmond, my fave was Malcom the grumpy dragon. I am looking forward to follow Claires journey, there is so much questions i have. Who is Claire? Her parents? Why does she have all of this strange unique magic? Is she an fae? Elf? half fae and half witch? Why did the academy want her to attend? Why is it so dangerous if the council knows about Claire and her being the fourth?

The mean girl trope is pretty prevalent in RH. It’s so common and sometimes can be so over the top that you just roll your eyes and skim through. Then, you hear real world stories like Aubreigh Wyatt and the mean girls in her life that drove her to suicide. An unfortunate reminder that tropes are grounded in reality. And even the over top ones might not be completely unrealistic. It’s sad.

Anyway, Couldn’t help but think about that during this book. The FMC is young, naive, and lovely and bullied a little bit by a mean girl who is jealous.

But; thankfully this is fantasy and the FMC has a support system of amazing friends and three strong powerful guys in her life. And she too has her own growing power… that she works hard to develop.

This is a slow burn and there is a little drama but not too bad. Mostly, it’s about a girl growing into herself.

This is a reread for me but I got the audiobook. The narrator wasn’t a favorite, but bearable when sped up.

Enjoyed this slow burn. If you like a “disabled” (quotes because her blindness doesn’t hinder her, love that), with a sweet/caring harem…a good read! Looking forward to the second book!

This is a decent debut book, but the author really needs to get beta readers. There are a ton of plot inconsistencies that were not picked up: These kinds of plot inconsistencies—both small and large—should really have been caught by the author on a reread during the editing phase, or beta readers should have caught before release. Likewise, there were a number of word confusion issues and the tense changes in the story. It was incredibly jarring (for me) to be reading a scene in past tense and then have one person described in present tense. At some points, entire scenes were changed to present tense in the midst of a book written primarily in past tense. Again, issues that should have been caught in the editing phase or at least by beta readers. The combined plot inconsistencies and rough editing make this book seem more like a later draft of the story rather than a polished, complete product.

I did find the story engaging, but there is very little plot development and heavy-handed foreshadowing. There is also close to no character development. No one grows as characters; I don't feel like I got to know any of the characters much better by the end of the book. Yes, I learned trivia about backgrounds, but not really what makes them who they are. Malcolm is grumbly, Desmond is suave and funny, Everett is quiet and introspective, and Holly is stalwart and kind. It doesn't get much deeper than that. I'm hopeful the author will pay more attention to fleshing out the characters in later books in the series.

I know this review reads rather negative thus far, but I do think the story has potential (). I was interested as I read, even when I was frustrated with the issues I pointed out above. I love that Claire has a solid friend group, and I hope their characters are also developed more fully. The author seemed to set up a lot of potential tension in the book but then resolved it all very quickly (). I do hope the author ups the tension in the upcoming books, but given the building's warning, that seems inevitable. Hopefully we have to see Claire actually struggle and deal with problems instead of them immediately being resolved for her going forward.
