JUSTICE FOR JOELLA is the eleventh instalment in Deanndra Hall’s contemporary, adult BLUEGRASS BRAVERY romantic suspense series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored POLICE AND FIRE: OPERATION ALPHA series focusing on a number of characters created by author Susan Stoker. This is disgraced surgeon turned EMT Brandon Fox, and Detective JoElla Tompkins story line. JUSTICE FOR JOELLA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Some of the events in JUSTICE FOR JOELLA are based loosely in fact, following a similar case seven years earlier in Illinois and Kentucky.
Told from dual third person perspectives (JoElla and Brandon) JUSTICE FOR JOELLA follows in the aftermath of Dr. Brandon Fox’s suspension from his position at the hospital, and ultimately separating from his wife in the process. Working as an EMT was beneath Brandon’s station in life but Brandon needed a job, and was well aware of the requirements to save a life. Meanwhile, JoElla Thompkins , suspended from her own job as a police detective finds herself a potential witness in a murder and the abduction of her neighbour. In the fall out, JoElla is reassigned as a detective at the local precinct in Taylorsville, Kentucky, working on the case she knows only too well. A night out with her co-workers, brings her up close and personal with doctor turned EMT Brandon Fox, and in the ensuing days and week , JoElla slowly releases the pent up anger that has been controlling her life. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Brandon and JoElla, and the potential fall-out as the case of the missing woman begins to take a familiar but twisted turn.
JoElla Tompkins was once a respected Detective but a routine call was anything but. In the aftermath, JoElla was shunned and ostracised by her co-workers, and her partner was promoted to chief of police. Suspended by the man in charge, JoElla walked away from the life that she loved, leaving behind unanswered questions about the who, how and why. Dr. Brandon Fox screwed up both his personal and professional life, and no amount of grovelling was going to fix what happened or why. Needing a job and a place to live, Brandon moves in with his estranged twin Landon, and begins working at the local fire department as a fully trained EMT. Meeting JoElla stirred something deep within our story line hero but JoElla was all kinds of feisty and fire, angry at the world, with issues of trust and self-esteem but a woman whose life had completely spiralled out of control.
The relationship between JoElla and Brandon struggles with JoElla’s acerbic attitude towards life, in general, but more so towards the people who wanted to get close. Brandon Fox had been estranged from his family, in part, due to his own preconceived notions based upon the ways in which he was raised. Neither Brandon nor JoElla were perfect; both had questionable morals and judgement but life cut them both off at the knees, and they had to start from the bottom up. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic, and familiar secondary and supporting characters including Brandon’s twin brother Landon and his wife Jerrica (Shelter for Jerrica), their sister Liella and her fiancé Breckin (Justice for Liella); Sheriff Roy Billings; detective Michael ‘Mick’ Hovekamp; police chief Lance Margolis; lieutenant Quint Axton (Bluegrass Dynasty); several members of the police and fire departments; as well as Brandon’s parents. The requisite evil has many faces.
JUSTICE FOR JOELLA is a story of murder, betrayal, conspiracy and revenge; a story of family, friendships, secrets and lies; acceptance, forgiveness, romance and love. The premise is engaging, intriguing and tragic; the characters are energetic, broody, broken but surviving; the romance is spirited and intense.
Poor JoElla, she was a detective who was going places in the department until something happened that has her suspended & disgraced which had her finally quitting so now she's barely making enough to live as housekeeping for a hotel. Brandon Fox was a great surgeon living his best judgmental life when it was all destroyed in an instant so now he has nothing. His wife is divorcing him & taking him to the cleaners, he lost his job, his medical license is suspended for one year, and his kids won't speak to him now that he's no longer the cash cow. Despite the fact that Brandon & his horrible wife put most of his family down, his twin brother is there for him so he goes to stay with him, and is now working as an EMT. Meanwhile, JoElla ended up in the middle of a murder & kidnapping so another department has talked her into coming back to work in her field. The case she's trying to solve has the twists coming in hot as they race against time to rescue a kidnapped woman, and in the midst of all of this, she & Brandon start connecting, but it's not smooth sailing. Anyway, I feel like I've said too much so just go & hit those one click buttons for a wild ride! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Ok... I have to admit when I knew Brandon had his own story, I was VERY skeptical due to his actions and words in previous books that include his brother Landon and his sister Liella. Now... I will admit that he deserved what he got when his actions caught up to him, I did feel a little bad, but figured that if he learned form his mistakes he will be a better person on the other side of it all. Joella has been burned by relationships, co-workers and family. When a crime happens next door she has no choice but to assist and she gets dragged back to a career that she didn't want to leave in the 1st place. I loved all of these characters and I especially LOVED little tidbits of previous characters from other series and books. I think I enjoy that so much is because it feels like a family reunion. Ok, back to the story itself, Brandon and Joella try to navigate the new changes in both of their lives while trying to figure out a crime that has rocked the community, As time closes in hard truths come out and lives are in danger. Deandra Hall has a knack for taking you inside of the story and keeping you glued to the pages till the very end.
Joella felt that she had no choice but to resign as a detective after an investigation regarding the actions of her and her partner exposed some realities about the police department. She is now working as a cleaner to make end meets when an altercation at her neighbors forces her to face her past.
Brandon was an accomplished surgeon until personal choices derailed his career and he is now working as an EMT. When his world collides with Joella’s, they find themselves working together and along the way they may just find the love and redemption that they both need.
You wouldn’t think that Joella and Brandon would be a good match as they are both focused on their individual plights however I enjoyed seeing them work together to uncover the truth and the changes it made in their lives.
Two people with professional histories have ruined their futures. Both involved bad relationships making any future with others, not in their plans. Until they meet. Fighting each other's feelings didn't work. Learning their histories changed things. Enough? Who knows.
She was a cop, he a surgeon. The problems took their jobs and the new ones were nothing like their previous professions. They do both have lessons to learn and the people around them are just the ones to help. Do they deserve help?
This one has touching moments, danger, threatened lives, with plenty of steam, and wonderful characters, some are from earlier books fans may recognize. Never a dull moment with touching scenes you'll never forget. Reviewed for words turn me on
Justice for JoElla By Deanndra Hall Main Characters: JoElla and Brandon I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author. 5 out of 5 stars Brandon is a disgraced surgeon and JoElla is a former cop. These two have both made mistakes and are now paying for them with their lack of jobs. I don't care for cheaters, however, Brandon did redeem himself. These two had good chemistry even though they were fighting their real feelings for each other. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Justice for JoElla: It's sad what one person goes through in their career that could hurt them for future in something they love to do. Both JoElla and Brandon made mistakes in their careers that they thought had the careers they love so much but it takes one incident to mess it up. When JoElla first saw Brandon she wasn't sure about him until she met him. She had hear what had happen and at first she felt he was a player. When saw the true side of him she that he was special. I really enjoyed their story!
So, we have met Brandon before...multiple times and multiple times I wanted to smother him, or stab him in the eye with a spoon...he was just that unlikeable! But here we get a much more humble, real Brandon, he has hit rock bottom and realised just what an awful human being he has become. Watching him and JoElla find each other, support each other through the tough times and finally find happiness is heartwarming. A great addition to the series which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
I really enjoyed this one! I felt that Brandon and JoElla were an unlikely couple. Brandon starts out quite conceited and JoElla doesn't let ANYONE past her walls. But they were kindred spirits when it came to their jobs and losing everything. I don't want to give anything away, but there's some suspense and dark elements in this story that give it that little bit extra. I really ended up liking Brandon quite a bit. He sure knew how to steam things up with JoElla! Great read! 4 stars
Wow, this book lured me right in from the very beginning and kept me totally invested with the great plot that flowed so smoothly over the pages and characters that were so well created with great detail and depth! I really liked JoElla and Brandon together, two broken people who needed each other but don't realize it. I was totally glued to my kindle as the journey unfolded between JoElla and Brandon until the turn of the very last page!
JoElla faces a few trials that are not easy. Suspended as a detective she still helps a friend with a new case. Things start going sideways I would say. EMT Brandon used to be a surgeon then he also faced some serious problems and trials. As they meet and go forward the case places danger onto her path. Of course Brandon will not stand for that. So by helping her turn the pages to see if he succeeds in that and obtaining justice.
Brandon met JoElla when her partner stopped to pay off a debt. JoElla had just been hired by the sheriff and was working on trying to find who had killed the boy in the apartment next to her. Meanwhile Brandon was trying to figure out a way to live without money or a home. The divorce he was in the middle of came out of a nurse who threw a fit in his surgery. Then his father told him he wouldn't be working for a while and took his job away.
I was hesitant to read this book because of Brandon. He was such a jerk in Liella's and Jerrica's stories that I couldn't see how I would be able to like him. To be honest, he was still a jerk at the beginning of this book but he definitely grew up and was just who JoElla needed. I really enjoyed this book.
Loved. It is very well written. At first I didn't think I would like it because of the cheating doctor. lol. But he redeemed himself. Characters from the other books come into to play which I love. So can JoElla and Brandon find love? It's must read.
I love stories that have redemption for the characters and Brandon gets that here. However, it's also a story of learning from mistakes, seeking justice, and some amazing chemistry. I enjoyed it and couldn't put it down.
I truly enjoyed reading this book it was mysterious, sexy, intriguing, and full of action! I would definitely recommend this book to read! It was well worth the wait!👏🏾👏🏾🤗🤗
