Flick and Jonathan, Trystan and Avery – all were united in protecting their world and others in the multiverse from the danger of attack and annihilation from the Seren, a bad group who would steal everyone else’s magic for themselves, wiping out every non-magic person in the worlds, and killing those who wouldn’t join them. Flick had successfully locked them away once before, but they’d escaped. Flick needed to collect all the suitcases that were not in their Strangeworld Travel Agency shop and destroy the one which would give the Seren access. But could they do it? Would Flick’s magic extend and spread for what she needed to do?

The third and final episode in the Strangeworld Travel Agency trilogy, The Secrets of the Stormforest by L.D. Lapinski is another gripping, intense, magic-filled adventure between worlds, among the multiverse. I’m sorry the journey is over for the friends of Strangeworld, and I enjoyed the characters of Flick and the others very much. The book covers are striking, the magic content is intriguing and perfect for young and old alike. I have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous trilogy to readers ten years and over.

With thanks to Hachette AU for my ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

I finished this book last month, but needed some time with it to digest. This review won’t contain plot or spoilers as you MUST read the first two, and ideally come to the third with no spoilers for the full experience.

Trilogies are tricky beasts. As we all know, part one has to set up a world and the rules and draw someone in. Part two has to ramp up the tension and expand the world, and the final part must both be epic and draw everything back to a personal moment to close.

Going into this book I was worried. The first Strangeworlds book was perfect. We met Flick and Jonathan, our beloved heroes, and through Flick’s eyes understood how portals in suitcases could work. Wonder, exploration, weirdness and some dropped hints for the future, but a lovely standalone if not.

The second was pure adventure, with pirates, magic, sea beasts and new characters, the arc seemingly a background beat here and there.

But I thought that there was no way that the dropped threads could be resolved as it felt like we only had a little information, that they were more like books 1 and 2 in a 7 book cycle.

But. I should have trusted the absolute genius of L.D. Lapinski here. The story of this final part hums with narrative drive, but is urgent rather than rushed. It explodes in character moments - some teary, and others fistpumpy (new term? Does it work? No? Not at all? We move on).

The story hangs together beautifully because, crucially, we already had all the information and the pieces the author needed to move around the chess board, along with the world knowledge, clues and rules - WE JUST DIDN’T KNOW IT. It’s rarer than it should be to read a trilogy and see things just click into place that you didn’t realise were significant. This was clearly planned as a whole - and more upsettingly there must be lots more detail and ideas locked away in Lapinski’s head that they must have come up with in order to have such a rich world to play in.

Basically, read the trilogy, it sticks the landing - so smoothly that the chinaware on the tray tables wouldn’t even clink.

I laughed, cried, gasped (the moment on the stairs) and I devoured the ending so fast I already need a reread. I would obviously die for the perfect human that is Jonathan Mercator but love all of these messy, lovely, diverse, queer humans. It’s hard to believe this is the end, but having already read them multiple times, I know I will come back again and again.

Great book!! I’ve been meaning to read the third book of this series for a while so it took a little bit to remember what had happened in the previous 2😂

Overall the ending was the best part and it just finished up really nicely!
Th beginning started out a little slow but once you get into it the action really picks up👍🏻

I have been dying to read this book since it came out and it was so good. Some of the chapters were too long for my liking, but apart from that, I really really liked it!

I don’t even know where to begin to talk about this series. I have listened to the first on audiobook countless times, especially on days when I feel unwell and need some escapism. There’s a moment in the third book where I literally sat down on my kitchen floor and cried (spoilers but the last book hits, my guys).

The Strangeworlds Travel Agency by LD Lapinski is a fantasy middle grade trilogy that follows Flick as she discovers a magical shop full of suitcases with the power to take her to magical worlds, all watched over by Jonathan, a trans teenage boy.

The series is rich with magic and imagination and exciting new worlds to explore. The three books take them to a vanishing city, a planet of pirates, gigantic greenhouses and more.

It also explores trauma and family and legacy in really smart, clever and heartaching ways. It has the sweetest first romance, and just wonderful queer representation throughout. Again, another I did on audio and paperback because I’ve probably read this whole series 3 or 4 times by this point.

It’s another one where I could tell you every second I loved of this, but I really want you just dive in and find those moments yourself.

Additionally, I just got a copy of Jamie, Lapinski’s 2023 novel, and it was announced that they are a World Book Day author with a new Strangeworlds story so there’s still more to come!

Man I don’t have the words for how much I loved this story. How invested I am in the characters and their relationships. This gave me everything I wanted and more: Magic, friendship, adventures, scintillating baddies and old friends. You get everything in this: glorious messages about believing in yourself, important stuff about love and friendship and even a few chuckles. I definitely cried for a good portion of this; gasped a few times and even was suspicious of those who I needn’t be. I love Flick and her gang so much. I’m so sad that this incredible adventure is over… but grateful and pleased that it’s been in my life!

Other than the gay/lesbian bits where Felicity and Avery (Both girls) kiss, This book is a really good book.
(I'm not judging others or saying what you should believe, it's just what I don't believe since I'm Christian.)
Great job L.D Lapinski

✨💼 S†ɾαɳɠҽɯσɾʅԃʂ Tɾαʋҽʅ Aɠҽɳƈყ: The Secrets of the Stormforest 💼✨
Flick and Jonathan are in dire need of a suitcase that could lead them to an answer that they need. They visit a place called the Pendulabor, where the trees are sentient beings, and the magic is elusive with many secrets. In this installment, they uncover the reason why the Agency exists, the history of the founders, and the ancient war between the Seren and the multiverse.

Sadly, there was something missing from this book that I loved so deeply about its precursors. The story missed an element of whimsy, although Pendulabor was such a dreamy and magical place; it wasn't present in the story for that long. Other worlds were not introduced, so it felt a lot like the story was limited in scope compared to the other worlds.

I enjoyed that this book made many conclusions, yet I wish such things would have all been leading up to this moment and hinted at. The Seren weren't necessarily as complex as I would have wanted them to be. Seeing Flick talk a lot more about everything going on in her life with people who had not been present was great!

Jonathan and Flick have a mentor-apprentice-friendship dynamic that I really enjoy. I wish that it could have been a bigger part of the story. I liked how Flick's overall character arc was tied together. Overall, an interesting and magical middle grade book.

Thank you Netgalley for the preview for. I've also pre-ordered as I need to have a copy for my bookshelf!

It's an excellent ending to a wonderful trilogy. If you haven't read the first two, then stop and go get them, they really are an excellent trilogy. I'm amazed at how well they were able to finish everything up, tying up all ends.

I promise, no spoilers. In this final installment Flick gets to know her extended family, she visits other worlds and together they work on a solution to the Seren. How? Well, go buy the books to find out!

Working my way through this series, this was the finale of the original trilogy but I didn't like this as much as the second book. Very atmospheric, a sudden death which made the stakes really high but there was something missing from this that didn't grab me.
I'm going to read the Christmas book plus the short story and then I'm counting this series as finished. So pleased to mark it as read by the end of 2024!

A different take on magical worlds. A strong lead female character who with friends journey through multivurses to save existance itself. The book explores the corrupting nature of power. I loved the concept of the suitcases as the method of travel.

„Neexistujú žiadny hrdinovia ani lotri.“

Z celej trilógie asi najslabší diel. Prišiel mi veľmi chaotický, akoby nemal hlavu a pätu a bolo v ňom až priveľa akcie. Vývoj postáv a vzťahy medzi nimi autorka zvládla krásne. Celá séria sa mi čítala ľahko a stránky ubiehali, druhýkrát by som ju už nečítala. Láskavé, milé a napínavé fantasy middle grade, a keby to čítam ako druháčka, milujem to :)

This is good. However, it's nowhere near as good as #2, which I thought would have made for a phenomenal Doctor Who episode, and there are WAY too many characters in the "finale" of the book. At one point I genuinely couldn't separate certain characters. I especially could have done without the addition of Danser, whose only character trait seemed to be his nicotine addiction. I wish we could have seen more of Tristyan.

I also thought the romantic element was forced given that Flick is barely thirteen years old, but oh well!

I really enjoyed the whole Strangeworlds Travel Agency series. I read them all within a few days and couldn’t put them down. I picked them up based on the covers and am so glad I did. I loved all of the characters and especially loved the new worlds that were created for them all to travel to. I liked the diversity of characters that were included, it felt natural not forced. By the end of the series I was ugly crying at parts because I had become so attached. Definitely a great fantasy series for all ages.

I have been dying to read this book since finishing the second volume in the trilogy last Summer and it did not disappoint. The book picks up immediately after the events in book 2 with Flick and Jonathan deciding what they need to do to protect the multiverse from the Seren.
The author’s vivid imagination comes to the fore again as we journey to the forest world where all living things are plants. We also visit some old locations too as Flick and Jonathan together with Avery and a couple of unexpected companions fight to protect all of the worlds.
Flick’s journey through this trilogy has been an amazing one and she really grows in this book as she learns more about her powers and what she is really capable of. She has to deal with fear too: both for herself and also what the effects of her magic might be. I love the slow burning romance between her and Avery and there is just enough of it for a pair of thirteen year old girls.
The book takes the reader on a real roller coaster of a journey both in terms of the plot which is as full of twists and turns as you might expect but also emotionally. We have excitement and drama together with love and loss and the themes of friendship and family are even stronger here than in the previous two books.
I thought that the ending was totally satisfying with all the loose ends tied up in a brilliantly organised conclusion. This was a fantastic finale to a wonderful series.
Huge thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Well, that took longer than necessary... and 'underwhelming' is the word I would use to describe this book. I still liked the characters and the world, but...
I thought that book 1 & 2 were fun adventure books with a common mystery: what is taking the magic, which causes these worlds to die? But I gotta say... the build up was better than the climax, sorry.
The Seren really don't feel like much of a threat. First because we're told a lot, but not shown a lot, which is always a buzzkill. Second, there only seemed to be one main Seren dude, which kinda defeats the purpose of there being an entire group that has been a threat for so long. Third, because quite frankly... they are boring villains. Their whole motivation is 'we want to live forever' and only at the end we suddenly get a slightly more interesting line about 'eliminating all non-magic folk so magic peeps can reign supreme', but that was literally one line at the very end, why????
Also, in this third installment the characters kept talking about the multiverse as if it is alive? Like it has feelings and it can take offense to stuff? But then why are the Seren even a thing??? Didn't make sense. And the storm towers, where did that come from? And the convenient dream memory that Flick has at the end of the book about Clara... what was that?!
Overall a disappointing ending to what was a solid, fun series.
