Down Falls The King: A Splitting Worlds Novella

Rate this book
Tengu Princess Rei is going to the Underworld for one reason and one reason only--she's going to kill the Devil.

It's been 500 years since Lucef--the Devil himself--infiltrated the Tengu kingdom and brought Rei's dreams and hopes of ascending as Queen of the Tengu crashing down around her. At that time, the Harpy who possessed Rei's sister took over the Tengu throne.

Now, under a special Tengu Moon that grants her kind unmatched power, Rei seizes her chance to take back her sister's soul from Lucef.

Rei teams up with the Demon King Natius, who bears his own grudge against the Devil, and together they go on a rampage. They scour the Lower World in a search of the mythical Pandora's Gate, the mortal's entrance to Tartarus where Lucef reigns supreme.

Can Rei find and kill Lucef before the blessing of the Tengu Moon wears off? Can a being of justice return from Tartarus untainted? Or will Rei's journey into the Underworld cost her far more than her throne?

Down Falls The King is a Paranormal New Adult Dark Fantasy novella in the Splitting Worlds series. It is the Sequel to Down Falls The Queen, available exclusively on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

My name is Katherine D. Graham, and I am a USA Today Bestselling fantasy author, developmental editor, and Reedsy Reviewer.

My debut indie Epic Fantasy novel, The Vow That Twisted Fate, is an Amazon bestselling New Adult Fantasy and Occult Fiction novel, a Fantasy finalist in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and a five-star IndieReader-approved novel.

In October 2022, the first full-length volume in my Splitting Worlds series (Splitting Dawn) was included in the "Realm of Darkness" box set, which made the USAToday Bestseller list.

Looking around my Goodreads, you may see a couple of older books that I wrote back in college which are now unpublished. I leave those books here and continue under this pen name purposefully.

Even as I now write 4/5-star books, these older books remind me of where I started. I hope my journey encourages others that everyone has the potential to grow if you just keep trying.

As a reviewer, all of my reviews are spoiler-free and honest. They are based on the Reedsy rating scale, which is:

1-Star: Skip It
2-Star: Not For Me
3-Star: Worth Reading
4-Star Loved It
5-Star: Must-Read

I am happily married to my high-school sweetheart and Hero. We have two awesome sons and three adorable fur-daughters.

I love reading, writing, swimming, traveling, grilling out, and playing video games. Japan is my happy place.

This was another captivating novella in the Splitting Worlds universe, where we got to see more of the relationship solidify between the Tengu warrior princess and the somewhat-recently crowned Demon King.

I have felt such a fondness for Nate and Rei since they were first introduced, and loved this new dance shown between duty and potential romance. The way Graham has delicately woven this idea of 'more' into their story, without ever really crossing into that zone, had me itching for them to admit that things had changed in their dynamic.

"I know you feel something for me, even if you need time to figure out what that is. Just know this: I will not leave you when you need me by your side. Never. I swear it."

Unfortunately, the action of the story, which is almost immediate, keeps them laser-focused on weighty decisions and the ripple effects of every choice they make, leaving this suggestion of a new path forward - together - lingering like a barely taken breath.

And leaving us, the readers, ever eager for more. I'm definitely interested to see what's next.

This book was amazing. I absolutely loved it. I jumped straight into it after finishing Down Falls The Queen: A Splitting Worlds Novella and It was so fun.

I loved Rei and Natius and I really hope to see them again in another story.
They both have such amazing character dynamics and they make them both so interesting and likable.
The plot was wonderful and felt like it tied up all of the questions I had after finishing Down Falls the Queen, while at the same time creating new questions.

I really hope to see more of this world and these characters.

I know i loved Natius but this novella multiples that feeling x1000. Rei faced a challenging decision and i think she made the right choice. She Is More than a princess, she is a warrior and she must stand by her king's side just like he did when she needed her. Together, nothing can stop them 👑
3.5 stars! Quick, full action packed novella with a touch of what loyalty really means ❤️
