This novella is a dark and taboo romance. Readers discretion is advised.
He wants me — The Wicked King. After coming back from boarding school, I come to know that my life will never be the same again. He'll have me, no matter what. But I won't give in without a fight. So, we play a game. I run. He chases. If Duncan catches me... This is a game of surrender and one of us is bound to lose. But it's not right for us to be together. It's forbidden and wrong. Except, the more he chases me, I grow weaker against his relentless persuit. But if only we had known, there was something bigger, more dangerous... something sinister lurking in the shadows.

Reading is her first love and always will be. Writing is her passion. She writes because the voices in her head won't stop and because they deserve to be heard and read. Lylah James writes about drool worthy and total alpha males, with strong and sweet heroines. She makes her readers cry - sob their eyes out, swoon, curse, rage and fall in love. Mostly known as the Queen of cliffhanger and the #evilauthorwithablacksoul, she likes to break her readers' hearts and then mend them again.
She uses all her spare time to write. If she is not studying, sleeping, writing or working - she can found with her nose buried in a good romance book, preferably with a hot alpha male.
This story started off seemingly like every other telling of Snow White but Lylah James threw in a delicious twist! Snows Surrender was sweet but with a twist of tantalizing seduction and oh my goodness moments.
A novella with a twist and it is nothing like the fairytale. Snow comes back from boarding school to live with her excuse of a mother and her new stepfather, Duncan. He plays a game, one where he expects her to surrender, but there is just something odd about her stepfather. He seems to have two personalities, one for her and one for her mother. He hunts her until he gets what he wants. Once she crosses the line, she knows they can’t go back, but it seems that there was always something off, something more dangerous and sinister going on behind, not only her closed door but the whole house. This novella was dark and taboo, with secrets waiting to be exposed. Will Snow survive? And will Duncan reveal all the truths? Overall, a quick, sexy little read with a twist (that I did see coming). However it was still enjoyable, the writing flowed, the character development was good for a short novella and overall it was entertaining.
I thought it was a retelling of Snow White, but it only had the name of this fairy tale. There is no story to speak of, a couple of questionable liaisons, characters without rhyme or reason. Forgettable.
Pensavo fosse un retelling di Biancaneve, ma di questa favola aveva solo il nome. Non c'é storia di cui parlare, un paio di amplessi anche discutibili, personaggi senza capo né coda. Da dimenticare.
Technically I already read this since it was in the Slay Belles & Mayhem anthology which I got an ARC for but I don't think I posted my review for it since most of the stories in that anthology were really bad and I didn't enjoy most of them. This one was the only story from that anthology that I actually enjoyed as well as a preview for a book that was going to come out but I ended up not liking the complete story either. So it really only left me enjoying this story from the anthology.
Now to the story, it's a good taboo dark romance that I did enjoy but do keep in mind that this might not be for everyone. Lylah James tends to write dark romances where it leaves the reader with all sorts of emotion and I was prepared this time. The story isn't too gut-wrenching and I think that it's more of a mystery since you never truly know what is going on during the story.
The big emphasis in the story is taboo since Snow is going after her stepfather but there's already a bad relationship with the mother that she really doesn't care about what can happen. I mean I don't mind this since it's obvious that the relationship wasn't serious and that there's actually a reason behind it.
Overall, this is a good short story and I do want to say that this isn't a story that's filled with sex like Madison Faye's books. I think this is more plot-driven and something that you can quickly read.
As someone who grew up watching disney princess and fell in love with Snow White this novella was interesting to say the least never did I think I would read a spicy show white retelling but here we are…..
Lylah James continues to raise the bar with her writing the fact that this is a novella and is only an ebook is a crime because I should be able to enjoy this everyday and admire it on my bookshelf.
Omg okay snows surrender follows 17 year old Snow White who has recently graduated from boarding school to go live with her estranged mother and new husband, when Snow meets the mysterious Duncan King he turns out to be nothing that she imagined. Lylah is the queen of cliffhangers and plot twist when I tell you my jaw dropped at the plot twist it made my sad that it was only 100 pages. If you need a quick spicy read go read Snows Surrender.
The twist in the end of this tale was not expected. The story behind the King family was interesting at that point! But most of of it was predictable as far as Snow staying and Duncan (Liam) going for her. But the twist in the end was what got me when I found out about Duncan! Snow didn’t have much personality, and was rather basic in my opinion. The writing was good though!!
This book was nothing like Snow White, but I really enjoyed it. It had a dark twist and there were some shocking moments. It was short but really enjoyable.
A good, short novella. I am confident I've read it before so it must have been in an anthology before being released as a standalone. It has age-gap (21 years), which I friggin' love.
