The first in a new series of standalone stories where our lovely men find their mates in the strangest of circumstances. It has to be Fate, right?
Edward Rosen, level ten mage, hadn’t reached the end of his tether – he was hanging from it. After a hundred and twenty-four years of living under his parents’ rules, Edward decided the only way things could change, was if he got married. The only problem was that the wedding was meant to take place in a matter of hours and Edward hadn’t met his groom yet.
Mammon, Prince of Hell, was doing what most demons did when they were bored – he was playing poker. When an unbeatable hand is foiled by a summons, he’s not impressed. But rules are rules and Mammon followed the summons, determined to get back to his game as quickly as possible.
Marrying was just the first hurdle. Coping with the demands of Edward’s family, a curse, a prophecy, and four hellhounds took a lot of work. Clara’s having a ball, but what’s with all the toothpicks and where did the dragon come from?
Summons is a 50,000 word story that’s a classic example of what happens when the author’s muse runs amuck. But like all of Lisa’s stories, it contains fated mates, a spot of humor, and intimate situations between two men that are only suitable for readers eighteen years and older. HEA is guaranteed.
Lisa Oliver had been writing non-fiction books for years when visions of half dressed, buff men started invading her dreams. Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it, is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate. Nooooo😭 what happened?? It was so good in the beginning. My eyes were literally glued to the page not even exaggerating. Then around chapter 20 something went wrong. It was like somebody else wrote it.
This book shows some real stupidity rich people do. Starting from killing their eldest sons because they were apparently "destined" to change the mage community. Like wtf. Ending with extreme denial about fated mates. Nobody believed Mammon was really Edwards fated mate. They were literally wearing impossible-to-remove rings on their fingers that couldn't come from anywhere other than the goddess. It seems the goddess forgot to give them brains.
Well, that was a fast read! Of course, RL was against me and it took FOREVER for me to get this one finished... grrr
This was certainly an entertaining read with, as most know about me, a wonderfully strong female character... give it up for Clara! *grin*
I was extremely impressed with how much world-building we got in just a few short pages. At no point did I feel like there was a need for more details. Edward and Mammon were an insta-love couple in the best possible way! Respect, admiration, and some sexy times were quick to follow their meeting each other, but such is the way of "fated mates".
Hard choices and a few hard-won battles saw our two heroes (and Clara) eventually winning the day! Which I am sure will lead us up to book 2... whenever it comes out... as I impatiently wait... *fingers tapping on desk*
DNF 50% I really dislike the immediately mates trope. It bores the hell out of me. It leaves no room to develop plot or characters. So... hard pass. This was, at most, an outline of an idea of a story. Not worth reading.
Also these reviews on here look fake as hell. 20 strangers writing a review in the exact same format? That's some real bullshit right there.
This one was fun. Didn't take the turns I expected it to, but then again I purposefully walked blind into this one. One of the few where we have one of the princes of hell as a romantic significant other and they actually make a good one.
Edward, a mage, summons a demon to be his husband but what do you know, said demon is actually Edward's fated mate, Mammon. It was a good, quick read with insta love and good winning out over bad.
This author always has well thought out and well written stories, but can often fall into the same tired alpha/twink trope a lot of mm authors do. Not this time. It's nice to read a story where the couple are partners and act like decent adults. No one running off in a snit over a misunderstanding and into danger. No one is "overwhelmed" by their uncontrollable instincts and being super possessive. No one is a whiny brat or an over bearing alpha, who is mean to their mate, apologizes, then does the same thing multiple times through out the book. We have 2 rational people who find out they are mates. They respect each other as intelligent adults. They support each other through trials and conflicts. And, shocker! they actually talk to each other about their feelings and why they took certain actions, like when Beelzebub showed up. I kinda want to see a sequel with them or at least more stories with couples like them. This book did feel a little rushed, but overall a great read. Recommended!
4 stars - An easy and fun read. It has a sexy demon hubby, true mates, a great best friend, a ruthless snobby family, a curse and corrupt politics. I adore stories with fun side characters and this one had good ones. I'm looking forward to more books in this series!
EDIT: for some reason I had a hankering for this book, just remembering something about a powerful mage, his demon spouse, snobby family drama and a corrupt mage council. Thankfully I found it after scrolling through a few pages of gay demon books I've read, and did indeed enjoy rereading it.
Oh, Lisa, you did it again! I'm absolutely in love with this book! Mammon and Edward are now one of my favorite couples. I love the dynamic between them - feisty, sassy, intelligent, and hot as hell! Mammon is the perfect demon - sexy, irreverent and smart enough to see the big picture when he's first summoned. Edward is his perfect match - even before the Fates stepped in and made them mates. The story is full of snarky banter, hilarious hijinks, and lots and lots of heat 🔥🔥🔥 The supporting characters are just as fully realized and the perfect compliment to the MC's. This book is definitely going in my top list of favorites and I can't wait to read more about these two! Stunning, fun, addictive - I just can't say enough but "Read this!"
This author is always a must read for me but this time she has truly let her imagination run free and the result is awesome, funny and adorable.
Growing up in a family concerned with "image" and reputation myself, I got a lot of the references here so I may have some bias but I thought the premise for Edward's diabolical plan was genius and the resulting chaos was funny without ignoring the underlying tension.
Whilst on relection I realise part of the "world building" here is reminiscent of Harry Potter's ministry of magic it, even the Weasleys' position in society is reflected here too, this is a completely different story, but if you liked that genre, you would like this too.
I loved the little back stories and anecdotes dropped throughout as well.
What do you do if you need to get married to get your family off your back and not bring down a curse that has been plaguing the family for centuries and don't have a groom - summon a demon of course. This is what Edward does, and he summons Mammon a demon Prince who it turns out is his fated mate. Edward's family is not happy with him marrying a demon and try to interfere. Edward then discovers the curse was lifted 300 years ago so that raises the question of who has been killing off family members including his eldest brother. Throw in some Hellhounds, visiting demon's and an interfering Mage Council and you get a cracking book. Edward and Mammon do finally get their HEA. Can't wait for the next in the series.
I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. This book is no exception! Summons is about a young and very powerful mage trying to control his own life. He comes up with the ideas to get married to appease his family. He summons a demon and Mammon, a prince of Hell, answers his call. At first the two men were just going to try for three months but then it becomes apparent that they are fated mates. They do get married and the two men have to deal with the negative reactions from Edward’s family. Plus Edward wants to find a way to lift a curse from his family. Mammon wants Edward to happy so he will do whatever it takes. The two men will have to be strong together because they have some powerful enemies.
Powerful mage (Edward) summons prince of hell (Mammon) to request his participation in a marriage of convenience, only to find out that prince of hell is his “fated mate”.
Marriage of convenience is always interesting for me. It’s kinda like “we are trapped in a cabin with only one bed” but the bed is the marriage. IDK this metaphor isn’t working but you get it. They have to somehow deal with this situation, which they’ve agreed is transactional, and then oh no he’s hot, and there are feelings.
That’s not what happens here. The “fated mates” bit removes all the stakes, so really, regardless of what happens or what Oliver wants to throw into the book, their being ~*fated means they will pull through. It counteracts any excitement generated by marriage of convenience. Boring.
This story was a lot of fun! It was easy to get sucked in with just the first few pages and the crazy scheme that Edward has cooked up to finally get his crazy family off his back and be able to live the life he actually wants. But when the demon he summons to be his contractual husband, Mammon, turns out to be more connected to him than expected and the crazy family turns out to be actually lethally crazy things take a wild turn for the pair. It was a wild ride that took in curses, the expectation of money and rank, and breaking from familial expectation to build a strong, supportive, and quite quirky romance. Excellent read!
Edward and Mammon. MM. Edward is a Mage and Mammon a Demon and is a Prince of Hell. Enjoyable read. Paranormal, Magic. It was insta Love/Relationship between the 2 characters, But for the reason of them being True Mates. Edward needs to marry to keep his family off his back and out of his life. He chooses a Demon. He has a short list of 4. He at the last minutes chooses Mammon. When the summoning circle is broken, they discover they are true mates. Edwards family supposedly has a curse on them. But for us to discover they really don't just his father and Grandfather committed murder to keep the lie going and to keep the family in line, with the threat of the curse. Recommend.
I really enjoyed this and the only reason it wasn't a 5 star read for me was because of the way the world building was done. At first, I found it really lacking and so I was constantly having new questions about the world. However, most of the questions that I had were eventually answered because there was a lot of world building towards the end. I am still confused about the role humans have in this world. I found this author during the 2022 Your Book Boyfriend's Boyfriend giveaway but I have had my eye on this book for a while. Neither book was disappointing and this is an author I will definitely read more from.
What a quirky set-up. I had a really good time with this one. Once in a while I really need something like this, where everything falls into place without glitch. Here, the big bad mighty demon prince rescues the day, sets everything to rights, and affectionately bullies his loved one and everyone else onto the path of happiness and success. All the while said loved one is not idle at all, actively helping this along and adding his own almighty magic and wit to the cause. I was smiling a lot while reading this, even guffawed once ore twice. It was funny, hilarious even. Highly recommanded to brighten a bad day.
MM paranormal romance. A wizard marries a demon whom he has never met, solely to get his parents off his back. He ends up exposing and punishing wrongs, and overturning the entire magical hierarchy. I was entertained by the story, but it was a bit simplistic. I skipped the sex scenes. I was both distracted and amused by the errors on every page. Misuse of commas, hyphens, capital letters and apostrophes; garbled adages; homophone mix-ups; wrong verb tenses, mismatch of plural verbs with singular nouns, missing and extra words, inconsistencies; and misuse of words, punctuation, and grammar in general.
Edward is the youngest son from a socially prominent family of mages that really keep him tightly under control and are pushing him to marry. In order to thwart his family he has a plan to summon a demon and have a fake marriage. The demon he summons turns out to be his fated mate and while they marry for real problems with the family continues as they attempt to end the marriage. Lots of problems attempts to kill the demon, and finding the truth about the family curse and power challenges take us to our HEA. Great story and highly recommend.
I'm probably biased in that I adore all of Lisa's books, but this was another great addition. Honestly if you've read and enjoyed any of her previous work, you need to pick this up. If you haven't be prepared for a well written and superbly executed story filled with strong characters and love. This book is a slight mix between plot and character driven, with the heavier emphasis on character as you can expect from Lisa. If I were to have any complaint it's that I read it too quickly!
I must say I have a weak spot for sexy, smart demons who find a fated mate. Edward is a strong mage with a heart of gold & a steel spine who will do anything to get out from under his parents clutches & survive the family curse, even marry a demon. Having that demon be your fated mate makes things a lot more fun. Summons will keep you laughing , smiling & wanting more.
I'm always entertained by one of Lisas books and this one was no exception. Easy to read, great MCs, fated mates and demons - what's not to like,
I love how Edward and Mammon meets, how they're equals and that they are in each others corner from the moment they meet. There's also some bad guys, a prophecy and some cute hellhounds all wrapped up in a great story.
Fated mates / mages / demons / taboo lover / government overthrow?…. This one started out pretty fast paced and entertaining, but I started to get bored when it got to the “overthrow the government” part of the story. Like Lisa’s other books the MCs are almost too sweet, happily falling in almost insta-love. But the plot was interesting enough to keep me entertained and all in all I’m glad I stayed along for the ride.

I adore anything written by this author and she is an automatic one-click buy for me. As a matter of fact, I buy the book then have to go back to see what the story is about! As usual, l wasn't disappointed in her newest offering. I can't wait for the next one.
I love it when I finish a book and realize that I have a huge, goofy, grin on my face. This book was delightful! I loved that Mammon was such a gentleman, and that he supported Edward every step of the way. It was interesting that Edward assumed that he was weak, and yet, all of his troubles honed his strength to be truly magnificent.
Its rare in a Lisa Oliver book that at least one of the MCs doesn't make horrible relationship mistakes that cause unnecessary complications. Instead of the characters making the same hurtful mistakes over and over this couple talks to each other and works through conflicts together. This was a brilliant read with fantastic characters. Extremely enjoyable.
Scenario not too complex, bringing instalove, but not one that has many good books written about. Light read when you want to relax, or clean brain from more complex books. But now I want mates for all 4 demons, and well, there are at least 2 brothers single?
I pick up Summons on the off chance while I waited for another book to drop.. boy am I glad I did. Fated mates, smart magic users, rotten family, lots of feels.
I needed a nice HEA and Summons delivered in spades.
MM with boys being big boys but lots of love as well.
