If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen…
Jenna Bard knew there was the possibility she might have a few setbacks on the road to celebrity chef status, but she never expected to lose her restaurant to her ex-husband on her fortieth birthday. The new restaurant out in the sticks might be her last chance to get her life back on track. Blowing off a little steam before she commits herself to a life of cows and collard greens shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Charlie Allen’s always been up for a good time—of course he’s going to take the sexy woman from the hotel bar up on her offer of a one-night stand. But when it turns out she’s the new chef at the restaurant his family has trusted him to run, Charlie knows there’s too much on the line to risk temptation again. Unfortunately, Jenna’s the only thing he’d like to see on the menu.
When tensions boil over at work, it’s more than the future of the business on the line. If Charlie can’t convince Jenna the restaurant’s the right choice for her, how will he be able to convince her he’s the right choice? And is Jenna walking out on more than just her culinary dreams?
Will their relationship be just a flash in the pan, or can they make it last?
Jessie Harper writes steamy, contemporary romance with a slightly Southern flavor.
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, she has lived all over the world—from Europe to Asia. She currently resides in Park City, Utah with her husband, three children, and more rescue animals than she ever intended.
Jessie appreciates a nice glass of whiskey, homegrown tomatoes, and well-delivered sarcasm. She hopes to never have to “bless your heart.”
Jenna and Charlie meet and have a one night and then she reunites with him at the restaurant she is starting at a day later, not knowing he was her new boss. The characters are terrific, with great backstories and intense emotions and feelings. The storyline has some surprises and twists, along with some lows like when she goes back to Boston. Loved the second chance offer back at the restaurant. The epilogue was great and I can not wait for more stories from this author.

Just a fun quick read! Charlie was sweet and I liked how he gave control on the bedroom, thats honestly hot. The sexy scenes ended as soon as they started and I wanted more than that but ill give it a nice 2.89/5 because it needed work.
I felt like with age Jenna became a true Karen, very closed minded and never open to have any fun. As a chef, you are willing to always mix it up a bit and experience with different foods, if you specifically work with a food culture thats fine but not everything has to have a Puerto Rican twist. She did open up with some convincing but she was kind of in refusal. Also the author could’ve done more research in regards to Puerto Rican cuisine because they dont only eat mofongo, pasteles and arroz con leches, theres more to eat than that. I understand it is whats more recognized tho however Arroz con leche is not a puerto rican originated dish but it’s commonly ate so i get it
Oh and the relationship was not very well developed because how can you love someone when you barely got to know them? Charlie only got to know the history between Jenna and her ex-husband and why she got divorced. Not much back story not even with Charlies parents and why they truly hated one another or maybe I read the book too fast and missed it lmfao
The book is a good, and enjoyable older woman and younger man small town romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.

Saw this book promoted in a reading group, glad I picked it up because I found another new-to-me keeper author. Perused the authors library and definitely going to read her other offerings.
This book hooked me from the start, not only the characters, but the author's writing style really drew me in. Mix that in with the way the main characters, Jenna and Charlie aka Country meet, then you have the makings of a truly enjoyable read. The heroine always makes or breaks a book for me. Here, Charlie and some of the supporting characters give her a run for her money, but Jenna makes this book. She's confident, dynamic and possesses an amble amount of faults. Loved her from the start.
And I will be long grateful to this author, this book pulled me out of my reading slump. Now, it's on to Fight for It, starring Julia and Zach.
Loved the book it was great; the story was beautifully written, and the characters were intriguing. Wow I am absolutely in love with this book, once I started to read this story I was in a state of euphoria. I had to read the book again.
