Cursed in Love

Rate this book

In a magical race around the world, there can only be one winner.

My powers weren’t enough to save my mother from an excruciating death. But I won’t stand by and watch anybody else I love suffer.

The spells I need to protect us all are locked away, sealed by a magic I can’t break. The only key is conning my way into the magical elite and winning their deadly competition.

I can’t do it alone.

Levi has my back. He’s a strong witch, my best friend, and fiercest protector.

Raphael might be my ex, but his vampire powers give us an edge.

And then there’s Isak. Dragon shifter, with his own secrets and reasons to win.

But in a competition full of witches whose powers outweigh my own, dangers arise from every corner of the globe.

Until one thing becomes clear.

We aren’t just playing to win.

We’re playing to live.

Cursed in Love is the first book in a "why choose" paranormal romance trilogy.

CURSED IN LOVE was so much fun and just one big adventure that I can't wait to dive right back into for book 2. I've always loved Ancient Egypt and it's one of my favorite settings for books so it was perfect that Nora and her men's first location in their magical competition was Egypt.

I enjoyed Nora's determination and spunk and seeing her mend fences with her ex-boyfriend Raphaël as well as finally give into her crush on her best friend Levi was a lot of fun. All three of them had so much chemistry together and there was such delicious sexual tension between them -- even after they started exploring a relationship together. Between Raphaël's sexy charm and Levi's boyish humor Nora has her hands full for sure. Adding Isak to the mix will be interesting and I'm curious to see where that goes since we only got a few brief moments between Isak and Nora in CURSED IN LOVE.

Book source ~ BBNYA Tour

Nora Moss is a powerful witch. Levi Quinn is also a powerful witch. The two have been best friends since they were kids. Now, they are in business together. But this job is something different. They are entering a magical competition together under fake names. They have to beat some of the most elite witches in the world and they have a month to do it. No pressure or anything.

This story unfolds kind of slow at first. It drops the reader smack into a situation that takes some sorting out. It had me confused for a bit. But once the preliminaries are over the story starts heating up. In more than one way. Nora and Levi have been best friends forever. But they each have the hots for the other and don’t want to say so in case it screws everything up. Add in Nora’s ex-boyfriend who happens to be a vampire and whoa. Watch out. But wait! There’s another guy, mysterious Isak from Iceland, who would love to explore hot naked stuff with Nora even though she might already have her hands full. Go, Nora!

There are three tasks the competitors have to complete and since task one is covered in book one I’m going to make a logical guess that book two covers task two and book three, task three. There’s danger and magic and sex, oh my! Full of action, cool magic, and sexual tension, this is one you shouldn’t miss.

This was one of my highly anticipated reads of 2021. I loved Ashwood's sea dragon reverse harem series hard (start with Tempted, you won't regret it), so a brand new series with a witchy heroine and a line-up of hot and powerful dudes?
Yes, please *grabby hands.
Nora is the witch in question. She's conned her way into a competition against other more powerful witches, with the prize being access to vital spells. The contest takes the form of a race around the world to find magical tokens.
Along with her bestie, uber smexy witch Levi, she speeds off on her quest. Add two more handsome fellows - Raphael, an ancient vampire, and Isak, a dragon shifter (woohoo!) with secrets - and she has all the help she needs. And more than willing bedmates.
*fans face
That's the thing I loved most about the sea dragons - the easy way the harem come together. This book delivers the same in spades. Nora and her guys might have personal dramas, battles to face, and high stakes, but the lovin' is natural and just yummy.
The action and adventure element to this story really worked for me too. It's steamy hot, fun, and so delightfully paced.
All in all, a total hit <3

Wow! I don't know why I am surprised, Zoe always writes smoking hot books, but 🥵 I need a cold shower!

2 witches and a vampire team up for a deadly magical challenge. Of course the witches are longtime friends who both want more but are afraid to try, and the vampire is an ex boyfriend. What happens when the 3 of them face deadly curses? A whole lot of hotness!!! Add in a mysterious stranger and things might heat up even more, but I'll have to wait for the next book for that.

🌶: 🖤🖤🖤🖤

✨Cursed in Love is like a mix between National Treasure 📜, Tomb Raider 💪, and Indiana Jones ⛰ and I LOVED IT 😍

✨Nora and Levi are witches 🪄 in the business of recovering magical artifacts. They’ve entered into a competition to gain the ultimate treasure: the knowledge hidden in a magic library 📚

✨Their first stop is Egypt 🇪🇬 where they face unknown ancient magic and adventure

✨They bring along Raphael, Nora’s ex, who just happens to be a vampire 🧛‍♂️ 🩸

✨If you’re looking for magic, treasure hunting vibes, look no further 👀👀 This book will have you clamoring for more, running through the pages 🏃‍♀️ like reading’s going out of style

✨I loved the inclusion of Egyptian mythology! It’s so nice to see something outside of Greece… (although, honestly, who can say no to a good Greek myth? 🏛🏺)

✨I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t talk about the romance 💖 and this book definitely has it. Is it #pornwithplot ? No, but I also thoroughly enjoyed the spice 🥵

✨ Full disclosure: this is #reverseharem . I didn’t see it coming, and I love the way it was presented. Levi and Raphael…get going babes 😉😘 #mmromance #mmf

✨The next book in this #trilogy is set in Iceland. I CANNOT WAIT 🇮🇸

✨Did mention there’s dragons? 🐉

This was a fun read! It was an interesting premise and I really enjoyed the adventure aspect of it.

Nora was fun and I liked how she handled things. The guys were introduced separately so I feel like I got time to know them. I enjoyed the world building, though I am interested in learning more.

There is MM but i felt like it was established that Nora was their focus and center. I will read book 2! Excited to find out more!

I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book!
It has it all: from adventure to romance, to spicy RH scenes to cleverly written plot. The author has not fallen into cliche writing and has clearly prior knowledge of mythology and lore or has done extensive research for this book. I loved the inclusivity and lgbtq+ representation as well as the mention of important topics even as a passing discussion. Cannot wait to read more!

Fantasy. Reverse Harem. Adventure. Love. Friendship.
Like, what else do you want from a book?
Nora is such a powerful and fierce but somehow still super cute and relatable character.
There are some triggers with this book, so check those out.
Honestly, my biggest complaint is that I haven't started the second book yet, but it is now definitely on the list. Can't wait to see where this story goes!

Wow! What a great story! I mean, the author said herself she wrote this story with movies like Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider in head, but she did succeed in getting that vibe just right. We follow Nora in her quest to win a worldwide magic competition that will take her, and her men, around the globe where she will have to face many dangerous challenges. The price? The access to a super private library full of knowledge. Who wouldn't want that?

The fact that the first book happens in Egypt was a really great choice since we can picture clearly the pyramids, the desert, the temples. etc. which only reinforce the whole world building. The relationships between all the characters are also super interesting!

My advice, you should read the prequel novella, Jinxed in love. It gives insides on the story I really appreciated as well as a better understanding of the characters' dynamics.

I absolutely love this book!

There's also a nice prequel called Jinxed in Love that introduces the character of Nora Moss and you get it for free if you subscribe to Zoe's newsletter.

I've only read a handful of Zoe Ashwood's books and until Cursed in Love, my favorite series was Sea Dragons of Amber Bay (another why choose paranormal romance). But Cursed in Love tops it and it's my new favorite this year!

Let's talk about the plot!
I won't repeat what's on the book cover description, but I'll talk about how I perceived it. The story is fast-paced and the descriptions are vivid, creating an almost movie-like experience. The quest and the adventure (with dangerous close-calls and all) give it a very Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider cross-over with a sexy witchy heroine who has a crush on her witchy best friend and partner (Levi) and teams up with an ex that happens to be a super hot ancient vampire (Raphael) who's still in love with her. There's also a mysterious Icelandic sea dragon who might join in the fun in the future 😁

What I loved most about the story is that it has a solid, riveting plot that keeps you at the edge of your seat. And then there's the relationship between the characters, which is deeper and more complex than in most why choose stories.

Just like it did in Sea Dragon's of Amber Bay, the relationship develops gradually and in a way that doesn't seem forced.
Zoe Ashwood excels at creating build-up and at times the tension between the characters is pulled taut. The intimate moments are sinfully hot yet tastefully done and leave you wanting for more.

The characters are well developed, each has flaws and secrets that I suspect we'll learn more about in future books.
I can't wait to read more about Nora's adventures and see what happens to their new relationship.

*I thank the author for offering me an ARC.

Steamy RH PNR. Witches, Vampires, a mission and an unexpected rage fuelled ancient god

This is the first book in a new series from Zoe Ashwood. This is a Paranormal Romance and Reverse Harem series and has very descriptive scenes of sexual interactions between all three of the main characters; two males and a female.

Nora Moss is a witch on a mission. Tired of ancestral magical knowledge being held in the hands of a few old covens, her goal is to share the knowledge with all witches. She gets her chance when she tricks her way into an annual magical treasure hunt organised by an old Scottish coven, with the grand prize being a full day’s access to their extensive library of grimoires.

Fellow competitor, Isak tries unsuccessfully to warn her off but Nora is undeterred. With the help of her best friend, Levi, the witch she’s been secretly in love with since childhood, and her vampire ex boyfriend Raphael, she sets out to Egypt on the first leg of three in the hunt. Along the way they meet Isak again. There is something strange about this large Icelandic male. He doesn’t seem like an ordinary witch. In fact it’s possible that he might just be something else entirely.

If you’ve read Zoe Ashwood’s other two series (Sea Dragons of Amber Bay and Norse Sea Dragons), you’ll be familiar with this world of Witches and Sea Dragons. This new series runs parallel to those.

The story is filled with action, danger, violence and a fair amount of descriptive sexual activity between all three main characters.
As ever, the world building is great, the magical system is easy to understand and the characters are likeable and relatable. I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Phew………. This book will definitely get your heart racing and it is so good!

I read a lot of romance but I have never really combined romance and paranormal characters before in a book (plenty on TV) and I am devastated that I have been missing out all these years.

I absolutely loved this book and I am not embarrassed to say there were a few parts I read several times over – you know, just to clarify a few things.

Nora is an amazing character.  I loved her.  She is so determined to win this competition and has a huge personal investment in the prize.  She is determined and protective of her friends but I also felt she made some bad decisions too – which is another reason I liked her so much.  She’s sch a real character.

Levi and Raphael are both gorgeous characters.  I was hoping Raphael would be a bit of an arsehole but he wasn’t so I was pleased when things took the turn they did.  I am so curious about Isaac too and cannot wait to find out more about him.

The existence of paranormal and magical characters in a real world is done so well that it always feel so real.  I completely forgot I was reading a fantasy novel and to me, the people, the setting and the plot were totally real.

I love to travel and the fact that the competition takes our trio to varying places really added to the settings.  The stop in Paris was really good and I loved the visit to Egypt and the inclusion of some Egyptology and I felt as though I was there – on every step of the adventure.

There is romance and lots of steam but it fits well with the story.  The whole thing just works so well together and is a perfect balance of romance, sauce and adventure.

As soon as I had finished I went to buy book 2 and I cannot wait to get into it.

This is the first time I have read a book by Zoe Ashwood, and it definitely will not be the last.
Cursed in Love is the first book in the Nora Moss series.

Needing to get access to a coven’s magical library, Nora and Levi take on a challenge to retrieve tokens from select locations. Whichever group gets them all first wins access to the library. The game is only open to the most powerful witches, so the competition is very high. Both Nora and Levi are powerful in themselves, but Nora knows that they are going to need help if they are going to win. That’s where Raphael comes in. Nora’s ex. Together they trek through Egypt to retrieve the first token.

I generally like books on the darker side, but well written PNR will win me over anytime. It isn’t a slow burn, but there is SO MUCH sexual tension throughout the story. Yes, we get some real good steam, but the passing glances and intimate moments are intense. Pair it with a suspenseful adventure theme and you can’t put the book down.

Nora, Levi, and Raphael are very well developed characters. All of them have rich backstories of their own and how they are connected. The chemistry between them is off the charts, both sexually and emotionally. The world building is slow, but it is there. I know there is much more than is being led on.

This is the first book I’ve had where the main character has multiple love interests and doesn’t choose between them, instead she has them all. It was only natural that I had my favourite though, and that was Levi!

Nora wants information that is locked away in a library in Scotland. The only way to get this information is to win a competition. In this competition, she must complete three dangerous tasks before anyone else, which will allow her 24 hours access to the library. Her roommate and fellow witch, Levi, is accompanying her on this journey. And Levi is very protective and also a sweetheart. I fell for him so quickly! He had definitely been pining over Nora for a while before they finally got closer during the course of this novel.

‘I will never get tired of him looking at me like that. Ever. How we could have lived together for years without figuring this thing out is beyond me.’

One of the tasks take place in Egypt. Nora’s ex is from Egypt and she decides to uncover old wounds and go hunting for him and his help. Things were not left on the best note, so their reunion was atypical! Raphael is a vampire and quickly adjusts himself into Nora and Levi’s group. He fits in well, and not only is their tension between Nora and Raphael, but also Levi and Raphael! Isak is the third love interest but we don’t see masses of him in this book, so I presume he has a larger part in the second novel!

I didn’t expect to enjoy this relationship dynamic as much as I did. This book covers the first of the tasks, so I can only imagine what the next ones entail! If you love paranormal romance with a decent high stakes plot, then this is for you!

Cursed In Love by Zoe Ashwood
Nora Moss #1- Releasing June 23rd

I finished this book and was amazed, it’s absolutely brilliant. Zoe knocked this one out of the park and I loved the characters, the story line and well everything about it really. Cursed In Love is a reverse harem, set in a paranormal world where the secret of who they are is kept from the world.

The main character isn’t this book is Nora Moss. She’s a bad ass woman who is on a mission to win the 214th Ballendial Games with one goal in mind, which is to win. After the death of her mother, Nora take know she needs to win as this is going to help her get spells that might have saved her mother, if witches where so selfish and share them for all to have so that no one needs to go through what she did every again.

With her partner in crime and best friend Levi in toe they embark on the journey of a life time that’s risked then ever and along the way they realise that they can’t do it alone. Nora’s Ex Raphael Aubert and fellow contestants Isak Einarsson join the crew. They attack this mission head on, and along the way face death head on.

It’s action packed and full of spark flying all of the place between the four. I absolutely loved this book and I can not recommend it more. Now I need book two ASAP I need to know what happens next.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Cursed In Love and for that I’m very grateful.

I came over to this series after reading the Amber Bay trilogy by this author and boy am I glad that I did!

Nora and Levi are best friends that travel around the world going on adventures to retrieve magical items and take them back where they belong. But Nora wants to enter the Games. It’s sort of like a Magical Hunger Games situation set all over the globe where each team chooses three locations. They have to retrieve a totem from each and the first to bring them all back wins. Boom, sounds simple enough but NO. These games are no joke and the coven running them are more ruthless and bloodthirsty than anyone realized.

This first books takes us through the first challenge in Egypt. But first Nora and Levi need a local guide to help. Enter Raphael. Nora’s ex boyfriend who happens to be a vampire who she hexed when they broke up to forget all about her. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That is the one thing that drives me absolutely crazy about our female main character. She doesn’t seem to be able to face personal problems head on and her first reaction is always to run and use her mental magic on those closest to her. Proven once again when she runs from Levi in Paris.

But our trio continues on to Egypt to take on their first challenge.

This book really is action packed and full of twists that I didn’t see coming. It was a lot of fun to get through! And watching our little duo turn into a lovely trio wasnt so bad either. 😉

Together with her best friend Levi, Nora manages to find a way to be included in a magical contest around the world to get access to a massive library with all sorts of spells and curses. What they didn't realise before storting their quest, was that the other contesters don't always play fair... To give themselves the best chance of winning, Nora decides to ask the help of her ex-boyfriend Raphael, whom she hexed after finding out he was a vampire.

This book is the kind of fast-burn I can happily enjoy: a little friends-to-lovers + a little second chance romance + a little insta-lust between the guys = plenty of hotness. But what I like the most is that the action between the sheets never deminishes the action involved in their dangerous quest. While being an urban fantasy, the author still takes enough time to describe the scenes around the characters. All that makes this a book that happily captures you and makes you enjoy the ride. The book ends in a logical moment, when the next part of their journey is about to start, so no though cliffhangers for those who have a hard time with them.

I absolutely recommend reading this book, and I'm allready looking forward tot the next book in this series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I had so much fun reading this book that before I knew it I was finished. I absolutely love Indiana Jones so I knew this was going to be the book for me from the dedication referencing Indiana Jones and fangirling over Harrison Ford. I didn’t read Cursed In Love as part of the competition but when I found out I could take part in the blog tour I jumped at the chance.

We find out that Nora and her best friend/crush/business partner Levi are taking part in a competition where they have to gather tokens from three different countries. I’ve been obsessed with Ancient Egypt since primary school so I love that we were able to travel there and explore the tombs in this first book. I really felt like I could see everything that was happening, the booby traps and high stakes really got my heart pumping.

I loved the character work that we had going on here, Levi and Raphael (who just happens to be Nora’s ex boyfriend, oh and a vampire) as love interests… hell yes there’s so much chemistry between the trio. Add to the mix the mysterious Isak and I mean come on, I wish I could jump into the second book right now.

Are reverse harem books a secret guilty pleasure of mine? Absolutely. Have I already downloaded the second book to my kindle? Hell yes.

Cursed In Love was my first book by Zoe Ashwood but as you can tell it most definitely will not be my last.

Take a pinch Twilight, a dash of the Hunger Games, a spoonful of Indiana Jones, a sprinkle of Game of Thrones, a little Fifty Shades for spice and add whole lot of the Mummy and you’ve got Cursed in Love.

This book is just so much fun!! Nora and Levi are best friends and witches. They totally have the hots for each other but better not risk the friendship for sexy times!!(or then again …maybe they should!!) but uh oh what about Nora’s sexy ex boyfriend who is also a vampire!! And then there is this hot dude from Iceland who would seriously like some fun with Nora too and... and... omg… I’m not sure if this should be called Cursed in Love or ‘Nora And All Her Hot Dudes’ but either way I loved it lol.

This is just a great fun read. A little slow at first but picks up the pace very quickly. Its well written, nothing fancy just has a nice flow to it. We have the will they won’t they love triangle or uh rectangle, the big magical contest, the ancient powers. Its a solid 4.5 stars from me, highly recommend to every single fan of paranormal romance out there.

I discovered this thanks to the Book Bloggers Novel of the Year award (BBNYA) where it was a well deserved finalist! Thank you thewritereads and BBNYA for my copy!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "CURSED IN LOVE". ZOE ASHWOOD did an amazing job writing this thrilling, intriguing, interesting, suspense filled adventure, action, spicey scenes, twists it grabs you from start to finish.
Nora's powers weren't enough to save her mother from an excruciating death the spells she needs are locked away the only way for her to get them is up enter the magical elite competition & win at their deadly adventure which takes them all over the globe.

I definitely recommend to get this riviting thrilling adventure so much happens Nora's mission to win the Ballendial Games is the journey of epic proportions they face death head on sparks fly between the four of them making this one exceptional read so looking forward to the next book "CAPTURED IN LOVE" NEED this book ASAP to continue this phenominal adventure.

I LOVED this first book in Nora’s story! I loved the Amber Bay (RH) Norse (MF) sea dragon shifters. It doesn’t matter if RH or singular couple, the stories are wonderful!

Cursed in Love is the first main book for Nora Moss. Her and her BFF are witches and joining a competition to possibly gain access to the magical libraries. Zoe has tied in Skye from Amber Bay as Nora mentions they are trying to make all this information public access to all the witches around the world not just the influential covens.

Needing the help of her ex boyfriend who happens to be a vampire and meeting up with and Icelandic sea dragon they think is a witch. Then you mix this up with a lot of crazy treasure hunting drama, multiple POVs on where this relationship should be, and then a sweet and HOT ménage relationship is born. Can’t wait to see how they bring Isak into the relationship but I know it will be wonderful. Zoe’s harems are about building trust, connection, and of course the heat!!! Can’t wait to see the rest of this adventure!

I was lucky enough to be able to read an advanced copy and wanted to leave an honest voluntary review.

Wow, this book was amazing!

This book starts out in an old Scottish Castle but the main part of the story takes place in Egypt. Nora and Levi under the guise of a different identity enter a mysterious magical competition to win access to the incredibly old magical archive that the Scottish Clan have been hoarding for centuries. Little do Levi and Nora know is that this mission is going to be the most dangerous and deadly one they've been on to date. I just have to say that the scenic aspects of this book were incredibly well writing and detailed, I almost felt like I was there alongside the characters. I’ve never read anything like this book, the story is incredibly unique and super interesting. Hence why I'm so excited to see what happens in the next book! I’m also especially intrigued and interested in seeing what happens next between Nora, Raphael, and Levi but also with her and Isaak. I think book 2 is going to be epic and I'm excited to see what craziness they get up to in Iceland!

If you are debating whether you want to start this series, look no further, this is a must-read!!

I had the honor of reading this book as part of @thesmuthood review tour and I am so glad! This book was absolutely amazing! The absolute best way I have of describing this book is Indiana Jones meets The Mummy meets Hunger Games.

We follow our FMC, Nora, on this adventure that’s gonna take her around the world in this competition against other witches and if she wins she gets access to this amazing witch coven library that she’s hoping holds some secrets she needs.

She’s joined our MMCs her best friend, co-worker, and adventure partner Levi who she’s secretly been crushing on for years. On the way they pick up her ex, Raphael, who happens to be a vampire, and they have this history and chemistry that is just undeniable. There’s also Isak, a competitor who’s also has this undeniable pull towards Nora but he’s got this mystery factor to him that I just loved. I loved all of these men even though we don’t get much of Isak this book. The banter and interactions between Levi and Raphael were everything.

Of course I have to read the rest of the series now and I cannot wait to see what else happens between these characters. Grab this book y’all. This story is amazing!

This was a fun start to this series and my first Zoe Ashwood book. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I love a good magical setting and this covers that in spades. We are thrown into the adventure right from the start, which I am sure some people would love, I however, thought it needed more world building to start out with to help give more character and world attachment. We are given bits and pieces of how this world works as the story goes along and I think it takes away from the moment. The overall plot is unique and I am very intrigued to see where this goes.

I love the relationships and where they are headed. I wish the spicy scenes were longer and more detailed and without that, I don't consider this to be very spicy but they are definitely hot.

There is a lot of underlying mystery and unanswered questions and I NEED to know how this story goes so I will be continuing. I think the writing and editing is good (nobody likes annoying typos and grammatical errors when you're in the middle of a dramatic fight scene, am I right?)

I seriously do not know how I have only now found this author. Zoe not only writes strong characters that are strong, true to who they are, but are also individual enough to add to the story and group. In this series, not only do we have a story, but a full blown adventure. I felt like I was reading Indiana Jones, watching the mummy and living in a mythical world all at the same time. It was such a fun read!

Though I cannot say which part was my favorite, the adventure we took with the characters or the unconditional love the characters found with each other within the group. Yes, the harem is more than just one girl with multiple men. The men find love and friendship with each other as well, with and without our heroine. Usually I want the men to be about the girl. Like she’s first always. This is true in Zoe’s harem but the way the relationships unfold in Zoe’s reverse harems stories it’s more like a group of puzzle pieces that slowly fit together and it’s beautiful. Thank you for theses stories Ms. Ashwood you have a gift!
