Dissection, matchstick, domino, construction, string, number, and positioning puzzles as well as mazes, magic squares and cubes, and other challenges are supplemented by cartoons, engravings, and a discussion of the cultural and historical background of each puzzle type
I was given this book around the time that it was newly published. I have kept it since.
At the time, I gobbled up the book, and have since revisited and re-read sections. I have also tried creating many of the puzzles with some success and generally always enjoyment of the results.
As a child, my brother checked this book out of the library so many times that my parents bought him his own copy. Recently a new copy was given to my son who is well on his way to getting a lot of enjoyment out of it. I also remember spending hours looking through the different sections. Part of the appeal of this book is the wide variety of puzzles to suit different tastes. A great gift for a brainy game-playing kid.
