Before I talk about Beth & Zach’s romance, I have to talk about Ellie and I related to her so much. I have many of the problems that Ellie has and I know all about the spoons and doling them out selectively. But I didn’t start having these autoimmune issues until I was in my mid-30s. For Ellie to have to deal with this pain & fatigue & a body that doesn’t work like you want it to at thirteen – oh my heart broke for her. Not to mention hurting for her at the loss of her mother/having to adjust to life with her mom’s best friend. But I also admired her character so much for not letting these illnesses define her. I realize she’s a fictional teenager but she represents so many of us in today’s world & her courage inspired me.
Now… on to Beth and Zach & their second chance romance. While their reunited chemistry is instant and full of sparks, their road to more-than-friends shares page space with Beth’s struggle to adjust to parenting a hurting teenager and Zach’s own inner battles. Instead of these other subplots distracting readers from their romance, however, they actually give a lot of depth to the story and leave us appreciating the journey from first loves to forever love even more. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters – and several supporting players as well – and I hope to spend more time with them in future books.
Bottom Line: Montana Reunion by Jen Gilroy has it all – likable characters, a smooth writing voice, engaging layers, a dog named Clementine, and a sweet-and-swoony romance! Given the variety of people we meet at the camp and its town, I imagine every reader can find someone to identify with on these pages. Beth, Zach, Ellie, Joy and the whole community really attached themselves to my heart as I read, and I really think they have more stories to tell!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
When her best friend passes away, Beth Flanagan takes in her daughter, Ellen. Having a disability, Beth thinks it’s best to spend the summer with Ellie at a camp for kids and teens with special needs. A lot happens at this camp, including the camp director being the boy who stole Beth’s heart. This could make things difficult for Beth because she determines that she can’t fall for Zach a second time.
I love the Heartwarming line of books from Harlequin because they are clean and oh so sweet reads. Montana Reunion falls into this sweet reads category. I felt bad for Beth because she’s not only dealing with loosing her best friend; she is constantly reminded of her friend because she is now raising Ellie. And to top that, she is dealing with the growing attraction of her old flame, Zach. The camp was interesting, and I enjoyed getting to know the therapy and treatments the camp offered. I also enjoyed the growing attraction between Zach and Beth as the summer goes on and the are together so much. The three main character’s; Zach, Beth and Ellie are wonderful and I loved watching their development as the story unfolds. There are a lot of supporting characters that make the story what it is. I’m giving this one Four Stars. If you enjoy a good Heartwarming Romance, you will love Montana Reunion.

A sweet and touching reunion story made even sweeter by Beth's quest to be a good guardian to her best friend's daughter. Before her death, the friend had set up a reservation for them at a camp in Montana with accommodations for the daughter's mobility issues. It just happens to be the same camp the two of them had spent a special summer as teens. It's now owned by the family of a boy Beth fell for as a teen, but he's grown into an even more wonderful man. They've both been through a lot of heartache since that summer, but the spark is still there. Will they let it ignite?

Montana Reunion was an absolute delight to read! In the book, Beth becomes an instant mom to an almost 13 year old girl when he best friend dies from cancer. Hoping that a change of scenery will bring them a closer relationship - and honoring her friend's request- they head to a summer camp that Beth spent time at as a teen herself. The camp has changed in its focus a bit in that it hosts teens of all abilities. Beth's new daughter has a lot of health struggles and has to rely on her wheelchair often...more often since her mom died. What Beth didn't expect was being greeted by Zach, the first boy she ever kissed.
This book was so good! The characters have so much depth. They're definitely not perfect. They argue and pout and experience a range of emotions. The past rears its ugly head and affects how Beth and Zach interact in the present. Neither wants to deal with the past because they think they already know the answers. And they're afraid of being hurt. Isn't this so typical of many of us? I know I can relate. But thankfully, with some outside meddling, the two begin to understand each other.
Montana Reunion is a very quick read since you won't want to put it down. I quickly became immersed in the story and felt as if I were right there in the book. The book made me laugh, yet there are scenes that had me in tears. As I said before, it's real. Life has its challenges, and I appreciate that the author gave these characters some serious ones.
If you love clean romance, I am sure you'll enjoy Montana Reunion. I can't wait for the next book!

The premise of this story is a little heartbreaking- Ellie recently lost her mother, and Beth her best friend. Ellie also has some physical special needs, which is a big focus of the book. The camp where Beth, Jilly, and Zach spent the summer together is now a therapy camp for kids with special needs, and it was interesting to learn about the details of Ellie's specific illness and how the camp helped her. It is very apparent that the author is knowledgeable on the subject. Beth and Zach's reluctance to reconnect is influenced by the relationship trauma they have suffered with others, and it really affects their current relationship. It's a rocky road for them to reignite their friendship and romance, and I struggled to connect with their emotions, feeling removed or kept at the surface. The relationship between Ellie and Beth is just as much the focus of the book as Beth navigates parenting a grieving young teen. I enjoyed the setting of Montana and the secondary characters that made it such a homey, special place.

On the outside, life looks good for Beth Flanagan. She’s got a great job and a nice home, but when Beth’s best friend entrusts Beth with her daughter, everything changes. This is new for Beth and Ellie, and they return to the camp in Montana where Beth and Ellie’s mother met as teenagers.
Beth carries a lot of hurt from her own family. Her experiences with them make her want to be so much more for Ellie. And if that can include Zach Carter, the guy who’d given Beth her first kiss, all the better.
Jen Gilroy introduces several characters who quickly become friends—ones I really hope to see again in more books—while letting the romance between Beth and Zach simmer. The Carter family welcomes readers into their circle just as they did Beth, and you won’t want to leave this Montana ranch, the camp, or the nearby town.

The Heartwarming line is one of my two favorites from Harlequin https://www.harlequin.com/shop/index.... The other is Love Inspired Suspense. I’m a character-driven reader, and writer, and these two lines consistently put out believable, relatable, and interesting heroes and heroines. I’ve been married way too long (past the Silver Anniversary now) to suspend my disbelief for anything less.
Beth attended summer camp in Montana when she was a kid, along with her best friend, and there she met Zach, both just old enough to feel those loving feelings, but not emotionally mature enough for much else.
The years passed. Beth didn’t see Zach after camp, but she and her best friend grew up together and advanced into adulthood. Her BFF became a mommy, and then her BFF got really sick.
Fast forward to the present and Beth is in mourning for her honorary sister and now an honorary mommy to a grief-stricken twelve-year-old girl, Ellie. Being a preadolescent, Ellie has her share of the usual angst in addition to grief, plus she’s in a wheelchair.
The author did a wonderful job explaining and portraying chronic illness and Special Needs. I know, because my husband has Multiple Sclerosis, and our two eldest children are Autistic (one is also Developmentally Disabled.)
So Beth has a lot on her plate and, with zero experience, she’s doing her very best.
Along comes Zach back into her life, a hardworking, level-headed young man now, not full of himself and ambitious to a fault, like the guys she’s used to in Chicago. And now they’re grown up enough to understand and nurture their feelings for each other. But how can Beth expect any man to knowingly and feelingly take on the package deal she is now?
This is a delightful read and highly recommended by me, someone who knows something about living happily ever after in real life.

I have recently fallen in love with ranch romances. This one not only fits the bill, but exceeds it. You have Beth and Zach, who are reunited now as adults. When they were teenagers, they had met at camp and had a brief summer romance, only to not see each other again. Only now their lives are different. Both have a hard time with the concept of love and feel like their lives are too busy for it. Zach has been busy caring for the family ranch and camp since his father passed away. Beth is now trying to raise her best friend Jilly's daughter Ellie after Jilly recently passed away from cancer. Becoming a guardian to a child can be tricky enough, but Ellie also suffers from an autoimmune condition that requires her to use an ambulatory wheelchair when needed. Both Zach and Beth have a lot to learn about their new roles in life.
The two of them still have an attraction to each other, though they try to deny it. Ellie unintentionally helps them along as she quickly attaches to Zach. He brings her back to life as he introduces her to the equestrian life at Camp Crocus Hill. Zach's mother Joy is eager for the two of them to rekindle their childhood romance. And unbeknownst to everyone else, Jilly is helping this along from the other side as well. Her love for her friend, even from beyond the grave, is absolutely touching.
I love the slow burn as Beth and Zach rediscover each other and start over as friends. I love how they can care for each other and are learning so much through their interactions. I also love how this author is teaching readers about autoimmune challenges and the spoon theory. People who do not have autoimmune or are not familiar with it do not understand how someone who looks "normal" on the outside can be struggling on the inside. This is a gentle way of spreading that knowledge and understanding.
And you just have to love this ranch and camp in Montana as a setting. I have never been to Montana, but now I really want to go visit. It just sounds beautiful. And I would love to visit a town like this one, because I just love how they take care of each other.
There are also a lot of other great people in this town, like Kate and her daughter, Lily. I look forward to revisiting this place in the future, because it has really left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

MONTANA REUNION is a story of unexpected responsibilities and a second chance at love. It's set at a cabin vacation spot in Montana just outside a small town, which provides both a picturesque setting but also some fun adventures and sweet moments. Great characters and a few memorable animals make for a delightful story.
This is the first book I've read from this author, but I definitely will be looking forward to reading more from her. I thought the characters were all well drawn, easy to relate to and likable. Beth is a girl who has learned to trust in herself and not others. She's not sure that she trusts in love at all. Zach has his own past heartbreak to contend with. Then there's a teenage girl who has had her life ripped apart and deals with her own struggles. There are moments the characters will frustrate readers, but not enough to affect the overall enjoyment. I thought the author did a wonderful job in handling some sensitive topics and weaving everything through this story in an enjoyable and heartfelt way. I also loved the involvement of the animals and side characters.
In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a story full of heart, second chances, and new dreams. Definitely recommended to fans of the genre and the Heartwarming line!

This was a wonderful, heartfelt story. I loved that it touched on an invisible disease, hockey and second chances-both romance and family. This story will warm your heart.
