Back in the 70's I bought several copies of this book.
When my dad passed away, I took the one I had given him. He had often recited a number of poems without the aid of a copy in front of him. One of my favorites, which he recited directly to me is on page 178 in this book. I also especially liked the first and last entries on page 227.
The book is not limited to poetry although it is mostly poetry. It also has a few stories and excerpts from a few books, along with some beautiful photography, a few Psalms, and some other verses from the Bible.
I may not be able to part with this book for a while yet although sometime I plan to take it to Goodwill so someone else can enjoy it.

Some favorite poems:
TO YOU
I turn to you,
Who have know pain and fear
And failure and despair
And in your eyes I read
Companionship;
And though your cloak be
Threadbare,half of it is mine.
You are my friend.
~Lilla Cabot Perry
A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere.
Before him, I may think aloud.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
THE GESTURE OF LOVE
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of
feeling safe with a person; having neither to
weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour
them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain
together, knowing that a faithful hand will take
and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and
then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest
away. ~George Eliot
Friendship is the marriage of the soul.
~Voltaire
This book belonged to my dear Grandma Bea.
