Before starting with my actual review, I just wanted to say: Read this book. Gift it. Talk about it.
Because beyond the (amazing) MM love story and the naughty passion between Dante and Sal, the topic is profound and remarkably well handled.

The Other Side of Unhappy... what a title, right? Salvatore Raniero, mafia Capo and Dante Herrera, Cartel son. When everything should oppose them, how will they handle the magnetic attraction they can't stay away from? Furthermore, these dangerous and feared men have been unhappy for so long. How will they be able to open their hearts as love comes from one of their greatest opponent, and a man, no less?
"My fucking body parted ways with commonsense when I met the Dark Prince of the Boston mafia."
TOSOU (as the author refers to it), is a true love story. Kailee Samuels sent me onto a raw and beautiful path of respect, self-discovery and acceptance. I already knew the characters, heroes of her other books, but the shift in perspective brought another layer to Danteband Sal's lives. Mrs Samuels mastered their feelings, the tangible emotions, their fears and challenges. I rooted for their love from the first words. I cheered on them.
"I am his Master in his spiritual reviviscence. And he is the Master in mine. Two fires."
Dante's patience, control and stability stole my heart in a journey where coming out might be lethal for them. Although they bear the physical and emotional scars of their past, their playfulness and priceless banter added an irresistible light to the tale.
Sal's doubts showed a vulnerability and a sensibility that deeply touched me. Their connection, inevitable, deliciously and sinfully sensual swirled, ebbed and flowed. Evolved. Sizzling tension, amazing dynamics, swoon-worthy scenes made for a heady cocktail. Did I mention how erotic they were? I could have taken cold showers every two chapters...
“Should be careful who you give ammo to. You load the gun; I won’t hesitate to shoot.”
After reading Forbidden Sins (A Tomb of Ashen Tears, #6) I am glad I got to hear Dante's point of view on their relationship. Kindness is sexy, forbidden is addictive, I'm telling you!

DNF. Fuck what a mess. I didn't know this author before reading this book so I can't speak generally, but the first thing that comes to mind is what a mess. The writing is messy, the flow of the story is messy and seems to be littered with holes. So much so that I couldn't follow the story. Really sorry, because the synopsis seemed very interesting.

Kailee did such an awesome job with this MM Mafia Romance. It was such a different look and take on what most Mafia related books are, what most MM Romance books are.
This book will not just give you a love story, but it will also educate you on how people feel when they are trying to figure themselves out. When they are trying to learn about themselves and what they want to share with others.
Salvatore, a member of the Italian Mafia, knows what calls to his heart. It’s forbidden, it’s not accepted. But it is who he is.
Dante, a member of the Cartel, married with a family, but isn’t truly happy. He’s different. But is he willing to accept that his differences could cost him everything?

Love vs. Love
Two men coming to terms with so much more than their sexuality. They have been raised to be a certain way, act a certain way….hate a certain way. The book is deep. It takes you through their minds and how they feel. I love books like this. The mafioso part is the side story but coming to terms with their sexuality is forefront.
What a perfect release during Pride Month. And true to Kailee’s fashion, her characters speak in Dom/sub. This may not be what’s screaming at us when we read, but I definitely recognize it in her writing. She has so much of my respect for the way she brings it into her stories. Such as the way that Salvatore may describe Dante. Just little nuances that most readers wouldn’t pick up on.

Well I made a major mistake going into this thinking it was a standalone because it really wasn’t! I mean, you COULD read it as a standalone BUT there’s a whole series of 7 or more books that came before, involving one of the main characters (Salvatore) and his previous relationships. Who appear in this book too. So I spent the first third of the book wondering what the hell I was missing, until I actually checked out the author and realised this wasn’t her first rodeo 😁.
Sooo with all that in mind, I totally adored Sal and now really need to read all those 7 books to understand what brought him to Dante. Who was also totally divine. 🖤🖤
Basically we have a mafia Capo and a Cartel hit man (Son).
They shouldn’t be together. Dante has never been attracted to a man before, yet he falls hard for Sal, who has been in a thruple relationship but is essentially closeted.
Several triggers, as this is a dark mm romance and both MCs have traumatic, abusive pasts.
Kailee’s writing style wasn’t always to my taste, particularly some of her steamier descriptions, but I enjoyed the book nonetheless.

I must confessed that this was a book that gave me whiplash while reading, but at the end? OMG!!! What an amazing story, the characters were outstanding and there road to ultimately happiness was quite the rocky one.
Salvatore Raniero, the devastatingly handsome Dark Prince of the Boston mafia and Dante Herrera, executioner, cartel son and infamously known for his hatred of the Boston Dark Prince.
I have not yet read The SOS Series, but am very curious to know more about Sal.
I just loved these two and together they were even more amazing. This was just a fantastic story, unusual written and an epic ending.
I highly recommend.

An incredible love affair between two fierce souls!

This is one magnificent and unforgettable love affair between to very powerful men. One is the Dark Prince of Boston, the other is King of the Cartel, heir to the Immortal. Dante and Salvatore’s extraordinary love affair captured my heart and pulled me into their hurricane of emotional ups and downs and power plays. I was consumed by their love and captivated by their gentleness and strength. I never wanted their story to end.
Dante and Salvatore’s story is extremely intense, highly emotional and gut-wrenching at times. Theirs is a love built upon layers of hate, pain, anger, betrayal and rejection all from within their own families and organizations. These two wonderful souls find something alike in each other and decide to forgo the rise in power to give themselves over to love that they both deserve.
Their attraction to one another is ferocious, wild, savage and filled with an immense amount of sexual chemistry that it oozed off the pages. This is their epic love affair. Their stunning fall into love. A lot of the story comes from Dante's perspective and you will feel like you are falling in love with Sal right along side of him. It's sweet and dare I say....normal. At least as normal as you can get with a mob boss and cartel king. ;) Ms. Kailee delivers more of her poetic prose and extraordinary imagery as Sal and Dante take the steps most new couples do. They have history so the chemistry is already there but they are still doing the negotiating thing. There is lots of demon vanquishing and skeletons to overcome but they are incredibly patient with one another as they navigate and forge their own path.
"Staring in his eyes, I confess, "You are my infinity." -Chapter 29
You must read this. As Sal says, "Be wild. Live joyously. Find happiness. If it's lost, keep searching. Don't quit." Their story is unique. Its full of ups and downs but in the end, they reach for their happiness and grab hold of one another. You will swoon. You will fan yourself. You will cry. But most of all, you will smile until your face hurts. Read this! It's a must.

The author shows how brilliant of a storyteller and writer she is. You read with the anticipation of what could happen next. Just when you think one thing, bam she takes you somewhere else and your mind is blown. You become absorbed in these characters and their story that you feel every darn thing. Sal is one complex character that I can never get enough of. The ups and downs keep you interested and guessing till the end. A must read if you ask me.

Before you start this is a forbidden romance with dark elements and it might not be for everyone so proceed with caution. This is the story of Dante, the King of the cartel and Salvatore who is the prince and boss of the mafia. These two are huge rivals to say the least. This story is also told more from Dante's side than from Sal's and you will feel like you know Dante and all his emotions like the back of your hand before you are finished with this book. If you have read Kailee Reese Samuel's before then you have probably spent some time with Sal and already are very familiar with him and know a whole heck of a lot about him and I really loved that his book was more about Dante than it was about Sal. However it is raw and dark and so hot and steamy and also a M/M romance. I loved Dante like soul deep wanted to comfort him and keep him safe and sound with me which sounds absolutely crazy because heck the man is a mafia king. But we see a side of him that isn't about that and a side of himself that he didn't even know. His attraction to Sal is fire. These two are really healing for each other too I think. I say I think because I am still pondering how I really really feel, which isn't unusual for me when I finish a Kailee Reese Samuels book. We also see Sal in a place that he is trying his best to survive and move on and recover really from broken relationships. But he too is just as attracted to Dante no matter who or what he is and that was real. Not some fantasy in either of their heads and for Dante that is quiet shocking because he really really like women, but there is something about Sal that just really calls to him. I could go one and one about the feelings in this book but I also am afraid I would give something away. I didn't know much about this book before I dove in and I like it that way when diving in to a book. I just knew it was a M/M story and I have read a lot of them but this one really hits you in the heart and head. Get ready to experience every emotion in the world in this one. I honestly have to say that this book had me from first page, now you all know by now Kailee is my unicorn author I love all her books, she has my heart and soul when reading anything by her, yet this book just blew me away and then some!! I can't explain my emotions at the moment, this story is just everything and more!!!
Sal is back and boy is he stripped back here and my god it's magical to read! Dante is one sexy, confident son of a bitch, king of the cartel yes he's older but they have so much in common with each other and end up falling in love!
This is an epic story of love stripped back and so raw and emotional it will take you on a rollercoaster that beileve me yes you will want to get off sometimes but boy do you wanna get back on after!!! I love a good MM story and this is no exception!! I guarantee you will fall in love with not just Sal and Dante but you will fall in love with Kailee's writing it's so fluid and brilliant.

This is a romance book for the ages. It is not defined by gender or social status. You have a cartel legend Dante and the dark mafia prince Sal. Dante fell in love with Sal and will do anything he can to save him from falling back into old habits. Sal shows Dante that love doesn’t get defined by gender. These two make the most loving couple. Add in Sal’s kids and you have the best family. They will do what is needed to make this last. This book is not the usual style for Kailee and I am so glad she took the leap for this one.

Wow..this one left me needing a minute and time to process. I thought I knew my Sal, I thought I knew where things were headed and who was with him...I WAS WRONG! Once again KRS blew my mind and my heart so much so that I really am speechless. This is true raw emotional heartbreak and healing and coming out your true self with accepting how to be truly happy. Love is never easy especially when it is with someone who is supposed to be your rival enemy and a man. Can Sal really trust to give not only his heart but the two most important things to him, his little girls. Dante, omg where did he come from! Reading this from his pov was what captured my heart and confirmed all of the reasons why I fell in love with him. His patience, nurturing and love for Mae & Ariella was off the charts heartwarming. His total acceptance of a broken Sal and standing by him every step of the way all while Sal was hurting, healing and coming to love himself and Dante was pure love at its finest. Where this journey is taking us next is anyone's guess but I am strapped in and enjoying one hell of a ride!!❤

These two characters just permeate your bones as their relationship grows revealing their growing pains and their triumphs. The descriptions painted by the author only add to the heightened anticipation to try and gauge what will happen next. There are some parts that are challenging to read as their journey will leave an ache in your heart and overall, you may feel as if you are on a roller coaster with the emotions that are evoked as the pages turn. If you are looking for a storyline with complex characters and steam that is dark and raw, this is a must read.

Dante Herrera’s love story with Salvatore Raniero was a long time coming. Cartel son, attracted to the Boston mafia prince, rewrote all the rules.
Sal’s spiral and the collapse of the Trinity, Dante saw glimpses of the boy his father broke, and attempted to put him back together.
“Geek. Thinker. Cartel. He’s so dangerous—to my heart.” - Sal.
Their attraction was mutual, confusing for Dante, not fully comprehending his love for Salvatore was possible.
“I am the guardian of the gate. No one gets to Sal unless they’re crossing through my inferno. I burn in his wake.”
Sal and sobriety, at this point, weren’t mutually exclusive. Dante’s conscience came into play as he attempted to guide and protect Sal from those who claimed to love him, while navigating his own path and awakening.
The push and pull between Saint, Dom and Iris, impacted any hope Sal had of being happy, until Dante.
Nicely paced, as a slow burn bi-awakening, until it was a full blown inferno. Tete and Chou make for an entertaining couple. Sal finally had a chance to be free, to be himself.
I loved watching Sal grow as a single dad, raising and protecting his girls. Mae’s ready acceptance of Dante in their lives, and her adult perceptions of the situation were often amusing.

I could put this book down, once I read the first page I knew I would be reading straight through to the end. And when I reached said ending of Dante and Sal’s story I wanted more! Pretty boy(Sal) has always deserved the world - to be truly happy!! The happiness and honesty about who he his that Dante is able to help him be okay with is beautiful. YES YES YES..and yet again this author has blown my mind with her awesomeness. I am blown away with how she can suck me in completely, mess with my head and then leave me wishing I could delete this book from my memory so I could feel it again for the first time.
Dante and Salvatore.. two strong, powerful males. I like how we get the story mostly from Dante’s point of view.
As with her previous books I found myself reading it and knowing the author is gonna take me places I didn’t expect… I wasn’t disappointed.
This is an absolutely brilliant mm read. Can’t wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve :)

The Other Side of Unhappy was a truly beautiful book. Sal and Dante are freaking volcanic together. I have never seen this version of Sal before. He is a TOTALLY different Sal and it was a sweet and delicious sight to behold. He deserves happiness and someone taking care of him. Seeing him happy was an amazing thing to witness. Getting inside Dante’s head and seeing his perspective was an enticing treat which made me fall a little bit harder for him. Some parts weren’t easy to read and left me a little sad and heartbroken but their love shined through. I’m not sure what the future holds but I can’t wait to find out. Highly recommend!

Wow… Kailee Reese has done it again and given us a heartbreakingly beautiful MM romance with characters to love. I don't know about the rest of you but I can't seem to get enough of Sal and Dante and I loved getting to know more about them. These two go on quite a journey of love and what a roller coaster ride of emotions. The Other Side of Unhappy is one of those books that no matter what happens you just keep reading to find out how the story ends. Kailee Reese Samuels has again given me such an engaging story to lose myself in. I so appreciate her writing. I get to leave the real world behind for a time and immerse myself in her words, so well written, and the story is fascinating.

Sal, the mobster’s boy and Dante, a cartel son. What an unusual and interesting combination. It’s a MM romance and one I didn’t see coming until the ending of the last book of this ongoing series. I’ve adored Sal from the first book onward; he’s one very sexy man, and I’ve always wanted him to find a more complete and uncomplicated love. Did he this time around? I’m wondering this as I write. But knowing this author like I do, doubt very much that this story is done. And I’m so incredibly happy to think that. I can’t imagine my reading world without these characters and worlds that Ms. Samuels has so expertly created.
If you are a fan of dark romance, then KRS is an author you need to discover (if you haven’t already). She pens one hell of a story. She can make you laugh, scowl in anger or cry in heartache.
