One of the first explorer narratives of Australia (the 19th century would be filled with them), Charles Sturt's quest for the Australian mythical inland sea would end in vain, but he left these writings behind. Sturt is a complex figure, and his writing is not staggeringly enjoyable, but it's quite an important addition to the Australian canon.
