I do not usually read adult contemporary romance, but decided to give this book a shot...and I absolutely loved it! I had so much fun with the characters, the story, the setting! The Last Big Fake follows Darcy and Seth as they enter into a fake engagement to please Seth's family so he can inherit the London family estate over his estranged brother, Victor. The thing is, Darcy and Victor used to work together...forging art pieces. There is humor and heartbreak and clever plans, while through it all, Darcy tries to navigate a potential relationship with Seth and keep her secrets of the past and present hidden from him. I couldn't put this book down and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted, fun read!
Fabulous. It's funny with lots of heart. This is the first book I've read by this author. II will be looking for more. She's got a wonderful sense of voice. Darcy and Seth's voices are great. I loved the plot it was twisted and believable and kept me reading far past bedtime. It was a very happy read.
This book was excellent, and I couldn’t put it down! I fell in love with Darcy, Seth, and their love story! This is the perfect book for a fun summer beach read.
Honestly this is the most fun read I've found in a long time. Ms. Kerns' characters feel delightfully authentic, and the plot kept me up reading late into the night. But I also laughed out loud multiple times throughout this novel. Good to the last page, and the perfect light read for a weekend or vacation.
I shouldn't like this book. After all, I'm a grouchy pedant, not a hopeless romantic. Yet I couldn't help loving The Last Big Fake's charming characters, richly detailed setting, and intriguing plot. Darcy and Seth feel so real, (despite the fakeness of their situation) and some of my favorite passages consist of them just talking to each other.
Overall, The Last Big Fake is a marvelous debut novel from Kate Kerns that easily earns five stars.
