Kate Murphy is just a nurse and single mom who wants to slip into her forties quietly, and finally lose those last 10 pounds. After a savage attack during her night shift break, Kate is turned into a vampire to save her. Now, she is thrust into a world that she didn’t know existed; trying to figure out how to keep her new condition secret from work, kids, and her ex-husband without missing a step. It’s funny how the word vampire will make you forget you have a water bill.

Unfortunately, Sorin, the Lord of the city, has sent her on a suicide mission to find the thing that left her for dead before it kills again and he doesn’t take “no, thanks” for an answer. Despite knowing she should despise him, the passion he has ignited inside her is hard to control and she is quickly losing the reasons she shouldn’t give in...especially when he makes it clear that he wants the same thing.

Kate will need to reach inside herself to find the strength that was always there and finally learn...she was never “just” anything.

I completely enjoyed this book!
Kate is a nurse whose personal life can get kind crazy. Being turned into a vampire has just made it all worse. When a slew of local women go missing, the Vampire leader tasks Kate and her maker with net. Can they stop the murder before it’s too late?? Kate is such a strong no nonsense FMC. She is a breath of fresh air? Go follow her and read this!!

Bite Shift is absolutely fantastic I can hardly believe this is a first book. The storyline flows effortlessly and pulls you into the world building which was fantastic and believable. The MC Kate is fantastic vibrant and well written. Rhys is anything but what Kate thought so interesting and lonely and brutally honest. I highly recommend the series it was fantastic and I look forward to seeing the series progress!

While it started a little slow, it picked up big time about half way in and then it was a freight train! I loved it!

Kate is an awesome MFC and her development in this first book is done well. I am looking forward to the next book, learning more about Rhys and Sorin, Alex and Monica, and finding out what is next.

Also, I bought this book from the author at #FanExpoPhilly in 2024 and she was amazing and kind.

Thanks to netgalley for the advanced ebook to review.
I'd been in a bit of a reading slump for a while and was searching for a book to pull me out of it, and this book was the one to do it!
I love vampire fiction and this didn't disappoint, with a great mix of gore, humour and sex! I'd eagerly read more books in this series as I feel there's so much more it can tell. I also think it'd make a great film!

Kate is a nurse and has has kids that she takes care of with her ex-husband who is married again to a woman that she gets along with. One night she is viciously attacked outside the hospital while she is taking a break. But a vampire who works at the hospital, Rhys saves her and turns her into a vampire. She would have died otherwise and Rhys didn't want her to die.

Sorin is the Lord of the city so Rhys brings Kate to see him after she's turned, it's what new vampires have to do. But Sorin is so much more than Kate thought he would be and she is instantly attracted to him. Sorin thinks that Kate is quite interesting as well but Rhys councils her to be wary of him so she tries to deny what she feels for him.

Sorin gives Rhys and Kate the job of catching the thing that attacked Kate and bring him to Sorin so he can take care of it. They aren't even sure what they are looking for at first but whatever it is, it's been killing woman in the city and they can't let it keep doing that. So even though Kate is a new vampire and Rhys is used to keeping a low profile and staying to himself, he and Kate are on the hunt for a killer.

But even though Sorin is able to give them the case files of the other women and all the info about them, they have a hard time figuring out who the killer might be. Every time Kate goes to Sorin to give him an update, the heat between them burns bright and they end up falling for each other so fast. She's not sure she can trust him because of who he is but he just keeps trying to win her over.

There's a doctor at the hospital she works at that knows vampires exist and is trying to find a cure for his own purposes. They become friends even though back when she was a human she thought he was such a jerk. She has friends at work that see the changes in her and are shocked but she has to make up some lies to her ex and her kids to explain why she can no longer go out in the sun and why she's a little different and stressed out now.

When the killer is revealed I never saw it coming. It was a total shock to me and I love being blindsided like that. He fooled everyone though and was good at doing it because he was a sociopath. When the story about who he actually was back when he was human unfolded, it actually gave me chills. I had goosebumps as I read what this guy had done and wanted to still do. He was a true villain in every sense of the word. Sometimes the bad guy in a story has one or two redeeming qualities...this guy had none.

This was such a good book and it was the first time I've read this author but I can tell you right now, it won't be the last. I found out that this is the author's debut novel and I was surprised because it was really good! I hope she writes more books like this.

I received an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’d been looking for a good adult paranormal romance and I guess I got that sorta with a side of murder mystery. Our main character is the fish out of water type character as she knows nothing about the supernatural world before the night she dies. When she wakes up the the edge of death her creator gives her a choice choose being a vampire or die for real leaving her girls behind. Obviously being the mom she is she choose to be a vampire ti not have to say goodbye to her daughters. But all is not easy as there is someone who tried to kill Kate out there as well as learning and adapting to her new life as a vampire and meeting the ever sexy vampire men who are now in het life.

I was pretty bored during the vast majority of this story as I felt like we were in the set up of this story for way too long. I absolutely understand that Kate needed to get acclimated to her new life and new routine such as no longer going out in the sun and convincing everyone around her that she had developed an allergy to the sun but it was so painstakingly slow. The last few chapters were my favorite when we got a very brief steamy scene. Maybe I’d read another book. Do with that what you will.

I sincerely hope that this is not the only book in the Eternal Night Shift Series! There is so much more to explore with these characters. Kate Murphy is a nurse and single mom who is attacked one night on her lunch break. In an effort to save her life, she is offered the choice of eternal life, which in this case means becoming a vampire. Talk about a life-altering decision! Now Kate must learn to navigate her new reality, while keeping her job and taking care of her kids. Needless to say, her exploits are definite eye-openers and funny to boot, at least to the reader. Kate, on the other hand, might have a different opinion. This book held my interest and allowed me to become invested in Kate and her plight. I did not want it to end! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

First, I would like to graciously thank Lena for sending me a physical copy of the book she worked so hard on writing, as well as some bookish related swag items.

Secondly, I am not providing a rating, nor an official review as I am posting this as a Did Not Finish review.

What I do want to express is that from what I did read, which was roughly about 200 pages, shy of nearly half the novel, it was a great story, compelling characters, fast-paced, vampires…of course.

The reason I have chosen to DNF I will be speaking with Lena personally. However, I do hope in the very near future that I can finish this book. When that time comes, I will be extremely excited to finish a full and complete review for Bite Shift.

I’m a 6 foot tall broad shouldered guy with a beard…is this my normal “type” of reading- absolutely not! Did I have a good time reading this- absolutely! There’s a certain comfortable familiarity about this book, sort of like a tv show you put on while you’re doing chores but don’t pay explicit attention to. With short chapters and a fast moving plot this book was an excellent stepping stone in my efforts to get back to reading more. Although it has its moments of familiarity it’s also packed with plenty of twists, turns, and original ideas! With really lovable characters I hope to see this universe live on!! Sexy, exciting, and dark all at the same time!

Wow - did I love this one. Kate is almost what I would think a grown-up Buffy would be like, except for her being a vampire. While there was a mystery of who turned her and who was killing in the area there is also the mystery of exactly what Kate is. Rhys and Sorin are two of the men that are closest to her in the book. Each have their own unique personalities. Her discovering how to live with her new existence was written pretty realistically, not that I know much about becoming a vampire. Plus, vampire guard badass - Tamela. Never seen my full name used in a book before. Story is steady paced and has long sex scenes, in case you were interested ;)

Thank you to NetGalley, author and publisher for a copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Kate goes outside for her break when on night shift the last thing she expected was 1 to be attacked, 2 that the strange blood guy from the hospital basement would turn out to be her hero and 3 that she would become a vampire, but that is exactly what happened and her life was forever changed.
I found this a refreshing take on a vampire story in that the main character Kate did not automatically become this blood drinking super vamp. Although the head vampire Sorin was predictable he was also quite likeable as was Rhys her maker. Trying to navigate her new life and powers, looking after her girls, being a friend and a nurse all while searching for a killer who could be someone that is close to her keeps Kate very busy. Worried that the person she thinks may be her attacker sends her down a path that could ultimately not only kill her, her best friend and her maker.
There was a good mix of story, gore and a bit of smut mixed in which made the whole book enjoyable for me and kept me turning the pages.

There are vampire stories, then there are gory out of this world vampire stories. Fortunately for me, this is the good kind of vampire story, the kind I like. Yes, you have to suspend some belief to "like" vampire stories, but when I read these, I realize that HER problems are much larger than MY problems and can lose myself in following her as she works through this new experience and learns how to move under the radar of those who would hunnt her. Plus, feed the kids, do the laundry, go to work.....all that "other" stuff. So yes, this is a good escapism book and well worth your time to read and enjoy!!!!

I loved this book about a nurse who is murdered while on her break at the hospital. Her co-worker gives her the option of dying forever or becoming a vampire. For the sake of her daughters, Kate chooses vampirism. There’s the mystery of finding who killed her and who is killing other women in the city. I loved how her ex-husband and his wife supported her with effective co-parenting. There’s mystery, world building and plenty of passion. I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

DNF 25%

This book isn't bad, it just wasn't for me. I would describe it as 'women's fiction - with vampires'. The tone is very light and our protag is one of those women who have found themselves in the middle of their life and wondering what it was all for. It's heavy on sarcasm and self-deprecating jokes.

Nothing wrong with any of that, I just like my vamp books to be darker is all. Mysterious and lustful.

If you're looking for a different kind of vamp book, give this one a try.

Whoa!

This book has rendered me speechless! Very detailed, and I could play the book as if it was a movie in my head as I read. I’m rooting for Kate with her overcoming different challenges and explore different relationships with Rhys and Sorin. The villian in this book, I did NOT see coming so brave for pulling one over me. Definitely recommend!

The rating only goes up to five or I’d give it more.

Seriously, the writing just pulled me in. That’s the only way I can describe it. I felt a deep connection to the heroine and was invested in her plight. I can’t wait for a sequel!

Vampires, monsters, steamy romance, and the struggles of hiding it all. Trust me when I saw you should have already bought this.

Wow! Great story!

I have bought 3 books in the best few days and lost interest in all of them, and then I downloaded this one and could not put it down! The plot moves like a roller coaster, and the characters seem like real people...just scarier...vampires!

Bite Shift is wildly entertaining!

Kate is a nearly 40, divorced nurse and has kids that she amiably co-parents with her remarried ex-husband and his wife. One night while outside of the hospital taking her dinner break she is viciously attacked. A shy coworker comes to her aid but it's too late and her savior must change her into a vampire to save her. She never knew vampires existed but anyway she can stay alive (per se) so she can continue to be there for her children and save them from that grief, she'll take it. Now Kate is thrust into a world she never knew existed and is trying to make the best of a very strange situation.

In order to stay in the area, she must meet the Vampire Lord of the city, and get his blessing. But upon meeting Sorin she finds things are never really that simple. Aside from the pulsing attraction between them, she finds she is wary of the enigmatic man. He tasks her and her vampire maker, Rhys, to discover what exactly it was that attacked her and help to stop the attacks from happening again.

I really dug Lena's take on the vampire world. The Change and the hierarchy are nothing new or revolutionary but they were intriguing and fun to read. My main book love is the paranormal realm but vampires more specifically, so, I was super eager to snatch this one up. I would have liked a little content warning as there is one page remembered rape and attempted rape content. I, personally, just need a bit of a heads up to gird my loins so to speak.
description

Lena being a bit older (almost 40) and having already been married, divorced, and co-parenting with kids was a great draw for me. There are only so many books you can read about perky, nubile new adults with an inkling of paranormal events. Blah! The relationship between Kate and her ex and his new wife is serious ex-couple goals. I loved how they had a very loving and understanding working relationship even though they weren't together anymore and there was no animosity between them.

I am absolutely in love with the vampire powers angle and Kate's abilities. The author left a lot of loose strings to pull for more in the series and I'm seriously waiting with bated breath. Vampires merging their powers and a -sort of- fated mates topics were brought into question but never addressed and those are some serious catnip treats for me.
description

The bad guy and his origin story were a real brain explosion. I never saw any of that coming. There is a "who can you trust" theme woven into the story which always adds a bit of excitement for me when I'm reading. And, wow, the bad guy was super bad. Evil. I loved it!

I am absolutely on the hook and can't wait for more Kate, Rhys, Sorin, and Alex in my life. Seriously, Lena Nazarei start writing if you haven't already.

Please tell me that is going to be another book! Kate is a nurse who is divorced and nearing 40. She is murdered and a coworker turns her to save her life. Now she has to learn how to survive in her new life while keeping it secret from those she loves. The perks include losing those few stubborn pounds she had but that doesn't compare to navigating her new vampire world and vampire politics. Or even who she can trust. I love a good vampire story and this one is definitely at the top of my favorites list!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

The plot was SO delicious! But who the heck allowed this to go to print without being properly edited?! There were typos on EVERY SINGLE PAGE. It was SO distracting from the story. This series has all the potential in the world to be the next Twilight saga, but the typos and grammatical errors were just such a huge let down.

God, where do I even begin? Ok, let me start with an overview of the story. This story is about a woman named Katherine who goes by Kate she is a single mother of two teen girls. She is a nurse working at a Pittsburgh hospital and she's a vampire now this story is about how she became a vampire and the events that occur afterward. Within this story, we meet Rhys and Sorin as well as a few other characters. Can you imagine sitting outside to eat your lunch then the next thing you know you're immortal? Kate goes through a lot of tests and trials throughout her early immortal days.

Ok, I think that's enough without giving away the whole story now let's get into the pros and cons of the story.

Pros: There are a lot of Pros and many more than what is listed below

• Interesting story plot and vivid explanations

• Story leaves you wanting more wanting to know what happens next

•Amazing character development

• Realistic representation of how vampires would be in our modern-day and age.

Cons: truly not many cons I would say mainly two cons that I could pinpoint

• Minor Grammer and spelling Errors

• Author did not always expand on certain topics in the story (ex .. Kate and Sorin Possibly being mates; what are mates in this story

But saying that I would have to rate this 4/5 stars and am looking forward to future books in this series.

If your looking for a modern paranormal medical romance adventure then be sure to check out Bite Shift.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kate, a night-shift nurse, is attacked and changed into a vampire to save her life. Her and her maker are tasked with solving the circumstances of her death - is it a werewolf? vampire? serial killer? This fun and quirky read will keep you interested and rooting along for Kate and crew as she navigates through the first week of being a newly-made vampire and juggling her normal responsibilities - work, kids, and an ex-husband.

The book left off with a hint for a sequel, and you can bet that I'll be picking that one up once released. Can't wait to see what is next-up for Kate, Rhys and Sorin!
