It was twenty-two years ago when Launz and Nye met at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Trenton, New Jersey. Both students, Launz played college football and gigged as a guitarist on the side while Nye was promoted from kitchen cleaner to a waitress. All due to Nye’s clever prowess, it took no time at all for a passionate affair to ignite. Then, as quickly as it all began, it all ended when Nye up and disappeared.Launz went on to become an accomplished football coach in both Division I college programs as well as the League. He’d just landed the coveted role as the head coach for the Connecticut Kings when Nye breezed back into his world. The position has come with great challenges, thanks to Launz’s predecessors. He must rebuild a team separated by scandal and betrayal.Nye has been gone, fighting demons in secret. Though she’s done well for herself as an attorney, her absence has been the most painful period of the life she’s had to endure—that or trying to explain to Launz the hell she’s been through.~“Launz, I was hoping we could talk.” His head rolled over and the words of his expression could kill. Launz snorted, “Apparently we’ve had something to talk about for over twenty years, but now—today—is the day you’re hoping to?” His eyes went lazy, which was dangerously deceptive for me. He scoffed, shook his head softly, then stepped off.Launz left.~Twenty-two years is a long time. Or is it?Publisher’s Love's Encroachment is book 7 of the Connecticut Kings series and is a completed installment. This book contains violence, angst, profanity, and sexually explicit content. If either of these elements is not what you prefer between the pages of a novel, this is not the venture for you.

WOW….Nye & Launz really had a lot to deal with…Nye did get an opportunity to understand her father’s treatment of his family, but I don’t remember Launz getting that his issues with his father resolved…nevertheless, the bright spot was that he and Nye was able to work out their 20 year issue….I love the relationship Zo & Launz had from their very first meeting….That was indeed a proper loving budding relationship between father and son.
2nd read was the newly released audiobook narrated by Midnite Michaels & Alyx Monroe
Let me start by saving that Ms. Belvin is a really good writer. I've enjoyed most of her books. However, this one just didn't do it for me. Now I know her loyal fans may "come for me," but respectfully this was not her best work. IMO. Spoilers: I did not feel a true connection with this couple. Nye appeared immature, conniving and very manipulative; at 17 and 38. She never seemed genuinely "sorry" or remorseful for her lack of honesty on any level. From her age, circumstances, etc. And Launz. For a supposedly mature, well-seasoned, intelligent, business savvy man, he came off as a naive and gullible simpleton. To allow a woman, who FLAT-OUT lied to you AND kept a life-changing truth from you-for more than 20 years, who you told repeatedly that you did not trust, move in with you. Duh! Where they do that at? I don't know anyone, male or female; mother or father-that has an ounce of sense-who would allow someone who knowingly dooped them- live in their home, unattended and given carte blanche -all access to their personal people, places or things. Child together or not. Most people in today's time, would have an issue allowing a 20 something young adult-whom they are JUST meeting- to live with them full-time. The story was just not believable to me. Call me a cynic, but it was just too much. There were so many questions that I needed answered, but never became clear. His conversation with Camay, or his other friends, who he performed tricks for. What was said/explained? It was just messy and immature. Unprotected sex with no prior discussion regarding their sexual health, never mind no prior discussion of birth control with someone "you don't trust," who lied and manipulated you.Or with a 40 something man who openly admits to not wanting to be monogamous with several women he entertains. I was baffled. He repeatedly spoke of her cunning ways...and yet willingly allowed things to be done and said. I wanted to like this book. But it just was not up to par, in comparison to Ms. Belvin's other books. The constant name and label dropping, was too much. I would have rather had some well-rounded, authentic conversations between two hurting adults, who needed to have a REAL grown up conversation before 80% in the book.
You know an author is the truth when she extends herself as an author while extending her readers. I thought Muted Series was a hard series but this work...whew. I am used to examining the psyche of this author's characters as she will use a lot of descriptions to put you in their head space. This time she used a lot of dialogue and it wasn't easy to discern their thoughts from their actions. Seeing was not always believing. I can openly say that I was not a fan of Nye at all. I thought she was cunning and manipulative. I always adore the female leads in this author's books but Nye was a struggle. How do you hold that secret for 20 years? I loved Launz in all of his layers. I loved him most as honest and decisive. What can you say about Zo...that young man stole my heart. Nye did one thing right in raising an amazing son. I want to adopt him...LOL! Trent B. was working my nerves and the one time I did like Nye was when she put him in check. Can we pause and talk about the shady sister Jenise...urgh...I would not have her around my man. She is slimey to me. This read took me a while to get into it and then when I was finally feeling it the end appears. So yeah, all well that ends well. This read definitely stretched me as a reader... This author did it again!
I'm a LB fan so I purchased as soon as I saw she dropped a new book. I didn't even read the synopsis. I enjoyed the story but I felt I was missing why Launz was hesitant on hearing Nye out. For me it took to long for her to be able to explain. Nye came off as manipulative, Launz didn't do well with communication, and Zo not having his father and how that affected him growing up wasn't really addressed. Great job with the past flashbacks and present day.
I wanted to love this book so bad! It started out good but about a little more than half way through it went downhill. It didn’t like Nye she reminded me of Jade and I couldn’t not stand her! They both are manipulative! There is nothing likable about Nye and she has a nasty habit. Launz was just okay. He didn’t standout. It was crazy that he didn’t trust Nye but yet she stayed at his house as long as she did. Nye I also just did too much. Like she slept in his bed when he wasn’t there. Then she took it to a level of masturbating in his bed and leaving the dildo there. Then have the nerve to act shocked when he brought it up to her. I didn’t see any chemistry between the two of them. He never really worked on the trust issues with her they just started having sex. It just appeared as if all was forgiven. The thing that I wanted to see more than anything was Nye talking to her son about why she kept him from his dad. There was a moment I thought we was going to see. Launz even asked are you good with talking with your son. She said yes but we never saw it. That is what we should’ve been seeing not the BS with Trent in Jade. I felt like this book just kept going on and on and on and we didn’t get nothing out of it. I really hope that this is the end of the series only because I have only loved CCJ books. I have only liked 1 of the 4 books that LB has written. I really liked Paker and Rut. I was just disappointed that LB wrote two books about Trent and Jade two unlikable people. Then had them throughout this book. The only thing I did like was Zo. I am going to give LB another try. This series is the first time reading any by her. I so am hoping for better.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
one thing I've learned to love about a Love Belvin book is to trust her. LB books will take you on a journey. she's going to give you complicated, realistic, flawed black characters that are well written with lots of character development. and shes going to give you black love stories. this book was no different. Nye and Launz were both flawed individuals. Nye was manipulative and hid a pregnancy from Launz. Luanz's dick led him to make poor choices where Nye was concerned. He admitted numerous times to not trusting Nye but yet he allowed her to move into his home. He acknowledged Nyes manipulative behavior but did nothing about it. Nye has to be one of least favorite FMCs in the entire LBU but by the end of the book, I was rooting for Nye and Launz's love.
I absolutely loved Zo. his character was so well written. And I loved the many layers of black love reflected in this book. Father/Son, Mother/Son, 2nd Chance Love, Grandparents, Aunts, Friends, Cousins...it was beautiful to read.
SPOILERS AHEAD: The cliches in this book very much center around insta-love, which I now understand why I do not like and was very confused by.
As mentioned in the synopsis, the two protagonists meet again after decades apart due to something that, in my opinion, could have been resolved within a few years. The miscommunication cliche coupled with a woman who claims to be a "problem solver" and "thinker" (but actually isn't) made this very hard to get through (not to mention the constant jumps to the past that cheapened my reading experience.) The icing on the cake for me was how we were told time and time again that the characters had grown up and evolved, yet they behaved in the same manner as they did when they were younger?
Nothing in this story made sense to me besides having an abusive parent (which, thankfully, I cannot relate to but can sympathize with.)
I've read other works from this author, so I'm thoroughly baffled as to why this feels like such a regressive story, but I'm going to chalk it up to me not being the target audience.
If you enjoyed Trent and Jade Bailey's story (immaturity masked as self-preservation), love women who use their age as reason to be deceitful and ignorant, and men who accept whatever women give them as long as they can cook, this is for you.
Nye was a piece of work but what is a Belvin book without characters getting on your nerves but also enjoying their growth. Launz and Nye were interesting to read.
The story was a little surprising for me. Yes, it had the spiritual side, the romantic side and the drama. The story just felt different for me. I liked Nye most of the time, I did not see all her actions as manipulations. Her father, The Gunnery Sergeant, that man needed help. That part in this tale I could not relate. Especially with his acts and the abuse. The love story part with Launz and Nye felt good. Nye and her son Zo, that was an extra ordinary kind of love. The connection warmed my heart. Overall, the story was good.
I am so honored to give this review! Being a part of LB Universe means, there is never any doubt of the superb job you'll get with every project! We know you'll always have work, because these clients of yours are a mess! Lol There are so many real life gems for growth, healing, redemption, and restored trust! There was so much grace, mercy, sympathy and happiness throughout this story. Zo was my absolute favorite... my lil juvie! 😂😂 As always, Love did not disappoint. She is always worth the wait & definitely is worth the hype! 🎊🎉💐🥂🤜🏾🤛🏾💯🥰💜💜💜💜
Funniest Love Belvin book! Love blew this out of the park(as usual). Was scared cos I thought I was about to witness a Character suicide in Trent Bailey...thank you for redeeming him! Love Zo, Launz and Nye in no particular order(well maybe Zo first). I laughed so hard throughout my reading. Thank you!
CK series is my 1st intro to LB. She has made me laugh. She has a wit that I can get with at times. This was my least liked book in the series thus far. I still have book 8 to read. To me its like she struggled with this book. She picked a topic that can happen, but didn't pull the full potential from it. And if you really cared that much for your baby daddy in the beginning, then why 21 whole years?? Her dad went from being despised to Nye allowing him to help her raise her son for the "father figure" her son would be lacking. 🙄🙄 I found that horrid when he had already failed 3 kids and a wife. I mean abuse is a MF no matter how you flip it script it. Abused people do irrational things, but she's "Nye who walks to her own drumbeat." (17 y/o speaking, so I get it but that wasnt revealed til later) Past and present didn't make much sense to me, but I kept reading and waiting on my "ah ha" moment. My "That's what I'm talking about" moment. Nye was poorly depicted. Fighter and stands up to grown men, but allows an old lady to hit her in the back with a brush?? 🙄 Feminist and independent, but allows her son to talk her into staying with her baby daddy?? 🙄 Everyone has a messed up flaw, but booger picker who never washes her hands and just leaves the evidence in unlikely places?? 🙄
Launz was irritating to me too. Ain't nothing wrong with being a player if you got it like that, and as long as there is upfront communication I suppose. (Not for me personally but to each their own)
I loved TB in his own stories, but not this one, and Jade was too quiet in this one.
LB's supporting characters are everything and always make me want to find their books!!! Lex stay coming with that energy!! I'm purchasing Ezra's stories most definitely!!!
LB this book was lacking in so many areas. But that's ok. It doesn't take away from your talent!!!
This story beautifully conveyed how the seed of love can be planted at one point in life only to fully bloom at a later point. To me, this is what happened with Nye and Launz. They developed strong feelings for each other many years ago that went forced into a dormant state due to unforeseen circumstances. But once these two reengaged, those feelings came back to life. I loved this story through and through. It was a real, honest, and passionate depiction of what a journey to love looks like. I really didn’t want it to end. Well done, Love Belvin!
When I read the reviews on this story, I thought this was going to be a repeat of Ashton and Tori. It seemed like that was where the story was headed at first but I was pleasantly surprised. I was very apprehensive because I thought this was going to be another underwhelming love story but Nye and Launz just had a star crossed love, even if it was tampered with. As their journey unfolded, I saw that maybe the decades apart were what they needed so that they wouldn’t be overshadowed by the toxic energy of the Gunnery Sergeant and the weight of a youthful mistake. Although both still finding their way, adult Nye and Launz were much better for and to each other.
Advice to the author: Please, just please don't use words for which you don't have or understand their meaning. Don't pretend to be smarter than you are or try to impress the reader. When you get it wrong it not only destroys the pleasure of reading the book but makes the reader take you less seriously.
This book needed serious proofreading and editing. The characters had no chemistry, they were poorly developed, and I hate books that "tell" instead of leading me to "discover." This book was amateurish.
I didn't hate this, but didn't love it either. Totally understood Launz's stance on relationships. Loved the character of Zo. Adult Nye was okay and growing overall, but I can't get with the manipulation so often in LB's books. My favorite LB selection of the CK series is still Love's Ineligible Receiver. I want more Rut and Parker, but will be okay learning about Launz and Nye's development as adult partners.
I loved it! 5 stars! Now as for Nye.. Sis did not grow on me. I tried with her lol. Launz made me love him from the first pages. And then Zo. That young man had so much heart. So much inside of him to give regardless of just knowing who his dad was. Now we wait for the new season.
I was initially introduced to Ms. Belvin through the Connecticut Kings series and was amazed by her story telling. This book continues that legacy.
Nye was frustrating and immature at times, but I saw her. I actually felt sorry for her because she didn't seem to understand that she was worthy of being in a real relationship. Her self preservation kept her from being able to articulate her true feelings. She covered everything with her wit which made her come across as calculating, when in truth she was guarded because of her past. With her being apart of the #taurusgang I related to her....her unwavering love and support to Zo, her hard working attitude, and the fierce protective nature over the ones she loved. I understand being wrapped up in motherhood and sacrificing for your children and that helped me to get past the mistake she made as a child, because I was definitely side eyeing her hard.
Launz really grew unexpectedly throughout this book. He was content with his life and out of nowhere everything he knew was turned upside down. I wasn't sure if he was going to open up, but he did and it was beautiful. He too was guarded and had not realized how heartbreak at a young age shaped him. I loved him as a beautifully flawed man. As he came into his own he really started to lead his untraditional family. His fear of Nye was rooted in an emotion a feeling he refused to acknowledge and I loved how their relationship developed. I related to Launz because people mistake me for shy all the time, when really I'm just observant and determining how and if I'm going to interact with you. I'm sure his observant nature helped him as a coach.
I feel like Ms. Belvin always has some serious topics, but I laughed a lot and felt so connected to these characters. Zo was a light. A beautiful spirit, respectful, and charming. He was the bond weaved through out this story. It was also cool to see some of the past characters even briefly, it was both funny and emotional.
This story was beautifully written, Ms. Belvin does not miss. I'm proud to call Ms. Belvin my favorite author!
When you're an author supporter and not just a character fan!
To my surprise, I struggled with the first half of this book. And at the time and a quick chat with one of my favorite sister readers, I determined that it was my recent re-read of ORH that caused an immediate lack of patience with both Launz and Nye in the beginning! The fact that Ashton and Tori were impacting my impressions of LB's latest project was through no fault of her own. But for the fact that her writing is what brings me back time and time again, and gave me the perseverance to keep riding with this couple even when I was at my most frustrated, I might have succumbed to my early doubts while reading this story.
But alas, this is LB we're talking about! The fact that her brilliant writing in a previous series was causing my bias in the current one was just not gonna fly! So what did I do? I sucked it up and had faith based on what my favorite author has given me time and time again. And guess what, she came through in her usual tried and true fashion! It's always been the journey for me when reading any of LB's projects. And although this one started out with a bit of turbulence, LB landed this plane with not only a smooth descent, but a runway kiss! As usual, no spoilers from me! Just know that this author will always have my continued and ongoing support in whatever she puts out!
Love Belvin writes beautiful love stories about complicated characters that are struggling to be the best versions of themselves. The characters can sometimes be exasperating but she celebrates Black love! I appreciate that she shows people working through trauma, dysfunction and generational curses to find peace within themselves and be able to love fully.
“We, Black men, in America war damn near every day. More often than not, we survive. We endure. But there come those times when we’re weak or weakened and the only advocate available to us is the one we need: our partners.”
“All that quieted tension you lead with. That no-nonsense coaching you do. That unshakable and unruffled persona under pressure? All that shit was dead that night in the rain when you withdrew your needed strength from her.” He gave an emphasized neck bow. “That’s the power of a Black woman in an exclusive partnership.”
Launz and Nye were messy! I was often amazed my Nye’s audacity. I loved Zo and his relationship with both his parents and grandparents. This was a chaotic, sexy, touching story of second chance love and family. I’ve found with Love Belvin books you have to trust the process because she does eventually successfully land the plane and give you a message in the meantime.
So Love Belvin has done it again. I was so happy to get back to our favorite football team, but what was really going on in the off season. New coach, single fine and baggage free. Or so we thought. Along comes his past and it came with extra baggage. How should he feel when the girl that disappeared on him 20 years ago shows up claiming to be the mother of his now grown son? Nye was a manipulator(See Stenton Rogers) from the gate. Longing to escape the hostile and suffocating environment of her military dad. Her actions as a teenager come full circle as she finally faces Coach Pierce. This was a grown and sexy read. Yes, they had drama and issues to work out, but the beauty was they worked it out together. Despite the obstacles thrown in their path, it eventually led them back to each other. Love has created another stand up dude in Coach Pierce and Nye will surely keep him on his toes.
A few weeks ago I was saying that I just wanting to read something that made me evoke some emotions. Listen Love’s Encroachment knew the assignment and came to play from anger to laughing out loud, I got my fill from this installment of the Connecticut Kings Series.
In this read we met our heroine Nyederra “Nye” Taylor a 38 year old Constitutional Law attorney and single mother of one 21 year old son and our hero Alaunzo “Launz” Pierce the 43 year old new head coach for the Connecticut Kings. Nye at so many turns elicit a deep negro sigh from me. 🙄 I disliked her but rooted for her in the same thought, but that is what I wanted, needed. ‼️Launz, I felt so sad for but he was still a stand up guy with his own imperfection in his handling of things and was perfect book bae 🤤 material for us older readers.
For complete transparency this is the 1st book that I have read in the series but I didn’t feel like I was missing any needed information because it was written as a standalone. However I will be going back to read from the beginning to gain clarity on some of the characters.
This book was superb. It gave me everything it was supposed to give plus more. 5 Stars ✨
This book was everything I expected and left me wanting more. 20 years is a long time to hold a secret that could have shattered everyone's world. I'm glad in the end everyone was able to move past it though. I need a continuation of Launz and Nye's story. I would love to hear more about Zo and Gena as well. I can say that a portion of the book had me disliking Trent and that was hard for me seeing as though he's always been my favorite in the CK series. I'm so glad Love redeemed him because I couldn't deal with turning my back on my fav.
This book literally grabbed your attention from the very beginning and had you wanting more the entire time. I had to force myself to slow down so I could truly enjoy Love's work. The way this story was written took you on an emotional journey for sure. Even though we were aware of Nye's background, something still made me dislike her for a while and maybe it's because I really liked Launz upon first meeting him. Either way, both of these characters eventually suck you in like the rest. I was especially happy to see so many of the past characters make appearances, even though a particular one was on my bad side for a while. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next.
Where do I start…. Love’s writing ✍️ always leave you wanting more! No matter the word count, THE END is heartbreaking and you never want the journey to end!
About this book… Launz and Nye journey to self discovery and a happy ending is about becoming vulnerable, trustworthy, honest, repairing what has been broken, and self love; despite the abuse, deception, and selfishness of the ppl closest to you!
Thanks again Love for sharing your gift with us! A Love Belvin novel was exactly what I needed during my break before I get started with my Summer session. Launz and Nye 's characters were perfect for each and other. Young Nye seemed to be quite impressionable to young Launz!🤗 I really enjoyed catching up on some of the old crew!👌😁 Thanks Again LOVE!💞🙌
Love Belvin said that she feels like this book grew her up, and I agree. While I love ALL the books she has written and could relate in some aspect to all the characters, Nye and Launzo has resonated the most to me, by far. I think it’s because they could literally be me and my husband as far as age wise. I loved reading about characters who I could’ve literally went to high school with, graduated with, or grown up with. It was so refreshing. Add on my Jersey roots, and it’s like, I was a part of the story. As always, LB took us on an emotionally rollercoaster and had us laughing and crying, happy and sad, but most of all, learning. We are always learning when we read a LB book. Love, you never cease to amaze me. As always, JOB WELL DONE!!!!
Love's Encroachment was good....a different Love Belvin story for me. Alaunzo and Nyedeera have a spotted, manipulative and unresolved past. This past comes shakes the future when Nye finally gives up the ghost on her deepest secret. I'm glad she had them go to therapy to address their trauma, miscommunication, manipulative ways and trust issues. The birth of their granddaughter could have continued this toxic cycle if not for them addressing their past.
It was some what predictable that they would rekindle a sexual relationship with her living in the house. Glad Zo was able to adjust to the Pierce family and feel welcomed with them. The fact that Launz saw his own trust issues with both his father and Nye was a key factor to his growth.
