With clarity, wisdom, and wit, Brian Taylor offers a fresh look at contemplative prayer as the pathway to genuine healing and spiritual transformation. Taylor gives practical, how-to advice for those with a serious interest in contemplative prayer, and also explores its roots in the faith and traditions of the church.
This book is itself the fruit of years of contemplative practice, and whether you are new to this form of prayer or an experienced practitioner, Taylor's insight, encouragement, and guidance will enhance and strengthen your efforts to draw nearer to the heart of God in prayer, and in doing so, become more fully conformed to the image of Christ.
I was lucky enough to meet Brian Taylor back in the late '80's during a Benedictine Experience week, just after the publication of his book, Spirituality In Everyday Life. As a former student of Esther de Waal, Brian writes with great familiarity, knowledge & experience of Benedictine contemplative spirituality. In Becoming Christ, he gives lays out in simple terms the process and potential benefits of contemplative practice & awareness as one of the primary ways of becoming one's true self. His personal & pastoral practice over the years has blossomed into a contemplative center within his own parish in New Mexico, certainly a model for other communities of faith. Beginners in the practice of prayer or those with more experience will find this book helpful.
