Chalk Dirty to Me

Two years ago, Cannel Crow experienced the worst day of her life. She was taken from a supermarket, and forced to spend a year with a man that treated her worse than a neglected, chained up dog.

One year later, she’s saved by a shadow organization that believes the law is a joke, and the only person you can count on is you.

After another year, she finally realizes the law’s limitation firsthand when the man that bought her from human traffickers, and then forced her to comply to his every whim for a year, is given a plea bargain for names of others in the operation.

Knowing that her abuser will spend the rest of his life in the lap of luxury under an assumed name, Cannel spirals.

At least, she begins to.

Then Wilhelm Schultz, call me Will, walks into her narrow world, larger than life, and changes her reality between one breath and the next.

The abrasive, larger, gruff police detective sees the world in black and white. There is right, and there is wrong.
Until he falls for a woman that needs him to see shades of gray.

The second he sees the world like she needs him to, there’s not a single thing on the planet that’ll stop him from fighting for her.

Not even the oath he swore to protect and do no harm.

After the brief glimpse I got of Cannel in Conjugal Visits, I knew I wanted to know more about her story. Who took her? How was she treated? Was she healing? And would she ever forgive Toot?

I wish I could say that what happened to Cannel wasn't pretty, but I can't. Here I am again, hoping that LLV would dip a toe in the dark side. However, the author did give enough of a hint to make me feel for the girl. Whatever she experienced had traumatized her. She was a changed woman who wished to erase the abuses she suffered. She didn't even believe she would ever find happiness again... and then she met Will.

It only took a moment for Will to know that something bad had happened to Cannel. In that same moment, he knew that he would stand in the way of anything and anyone who even thought about hurting her. He wanted to be her hero and I've gotta admit, he most definitely was. He was patient and understanding and gave her everything she could possibly wish for. He became her happy place.

"I need slow."
His eyes shifted to something between interest and regret. "I can do slow."

Aside from some drama (I see you, Brianna) and an unexpected suspenseful element (I can't be the only one who thought it was weird, right?), the romance that developed between Cannel and Will was smooth and breezy. I loved their banter, their natural ease with one another, their love. These stories are like chocolate cake to me — I CAN'T RESIST!!

This book took me where I was expecting to go but took some wild turns getting there. I enjoyed the plot though I do believe LLV went slightly more innocent in some aspects than is realistic based on the circumstances of the heroine’s past trauma. The suspense, the dramatic secondary characters- all support that slightly OTT signature I find comfort in.

I loved Will’s instant connection with Cannel and how perceptive he was. I was entertained by grouchy Will’s internal struggles and how Cannel helped him get clarity on the people in his life and job. Cannel was a great heroine and was matched well to Will. Though their intimate pace was a little slower it was completely appropriate considering the characterization and we get a strong build up.

I can’t wait to read what’s next!

2.5 ⭐️

This one was okay I wish I could connect more with these two but I couldn't. They had some chemistry but idk it was just meh.

Cannel had a rough few years she was taken and sold into human trafficking and saved but she has alittle ptsd with being around men. She only has few she trust to be around and one was Will it was kinda love at first sight or she felt safe around him when he went to question her about a case and he was drawn to her that he forgot the other person he sorta crushed on. Good to because his partner/crush was a bitch.

I think it was that the ex crush/partner that was meh and the whole storyline with her and the married men she messed with.

I might read the other series she has but idk. I'm still not sure.

Epilogue
October 2, 2021
Cannel Crow is working slowly to take her life back after being kept as a captive for the past year as part of a human trafficking ring. She is working a job she hates, still jumps at shadows and has a hard time accepting touch, including a simple hug from her brothers. When she meets detective Wilhelm Shultz for the first time, even though she is intimidated by his size, she also feels something she never thought she would for a man again.

Will may not know all of Cannel’s story, but he knows he has to take things slow and easy. The more he discovers, the more he starts seeing the world as a little less black and white. He’s determined to be the man she needs while also caring for his two nieces, working at the Paris PD and fitting in as much Cross Fit as he can.

But Will’s partner, Brianna isn’t making things easy on them. She’s been known to break up more than one relationship and seems to have her eyes on Will. But, what if something more sinister is afoot?

I really loved Will and Cannel as a couple. I can’t believe the absolute strength Cannel has to overcome and live her life as she wants with the panic attacks and fear she faces every day. I applaud her refusing to do anything she doesn’t want to ever again after having her choices stripped from her by her captor. I adored Will for being completely understanding of that and moving at her pace and giving her space when she needed it and loving her as she stood up for herself.

The twist in this one was unexpected. The reason this received 4 stars for me is because I wish more time had been spent on that climax with the twisted reveal. It felt a bit rushed to me and left me wanting more resolution on that story thread. That being said, it was exciting to get to meet Cannel’s brothers who will be in the upcoming Battle Crows MC series.

Will and Cannel were an amazing couple. Both stubborn and sweet, it was awesome to watch them push through past hurts, fears, a crazy partner, a stalkerish ex-fiance and everything else life threw at them to get to their happy ever after. 4 stars.

5 Stars!

Lani Lynn Vale is back with the next (third!) standalone in the swoony Madd Crossfit Series and y'all, I was here for all of the words in this beauty. Chalk Dirty to Me had it all in one brilliant little package, and this book literally kept me hooked from the very first word to the last.

Cannel and Will. Gahhhhhhh these two. These two y'all. My heart. I was captivated by them within the first few pages of their journey and y'all, what. a. story. Seriously whoam Packed to the brims with heart, heat, drama, suspense, and all of the pesky but much needed feels (I'm talking nearly every page y'all!)... Chalk Dirty to Me hit all my marks, ALL OF THEM and made me want so much more from these characters.

Lani is an exceptionally talented writer and I am super glad I discovered her (thanks for the push, shove, whatever you call it Renee!). I can't wait for her next new release, especially in this addicting series.

I highly recommend this book.

What h experienced was horrible that she was so brave to overcome her fear and accepted H.

However, I still didn't get the villain's motive; also, I've read the 1st book of this series but still got confused about some of the names mentioned.

Mmm, I feel that this needed... more. I genuinely didn't feel that I got to know either of the leads. In comparison to the previous Madd CrossFit books... this one... it just didn't feel as developed.

What was Brianna's deal? Why was she allowed to continue with that behaviour when it would've had such a detrimental effect to the department? Why did Tarzan suddenly become 'Scott'... we had only ever known him as Tarzan. Why was Beau/Toots even allowed near Cannel? After what he did. What was the resolution with Scott/Tarzan? And Brianna's role in that? Why is it that every woman who isn't already attached or a minor thinks that Will is the bee's knees? ( apart from the women in the restaurant with the really great rolls and butter... can't remember their names... Mirabel? Sketch? Summat like that. 12/07/22 Banger... is was Banger, Marisol was the awful step-sib.

Ah well... I will keep my hopes up for the next one!

Cannel's been through something unimaginably horrific, so it's no wonder she's not exactly at ease around men, particularly large men. But then she meets Wilhelm (Will), a cop come to question her about one of her former patients. She has a reaction to him she hasn't had to a man in a long time, if ever. Now she knows he's the one who will help her get out there again, get her living again.

Will's reaction to Cannel surprises him. He had just been thinking about his partner and the feelings he thought he had had for her. Then he goes to question this gorgeous nurse and suddenly he's not even remembering his annoying partner. Cannel's on his mind, but he can tell that something horrible happened to her to put the terror he sees in her eyes. He'll have to go very slowly if he wants her in his life - something he's more than prepared to do.

Cannel's backstory is heartbreaking, but she survived and came out all the stronger for it, and that right there is the very best part of her story for me. I absolutely loved her. Will was the perfect partner for her - patient, gentle when necessary, solid, and seriously hot in the bedroom. Together they made for a great couple, and their story is emotionally layered, a bit suspenseful, and slow burn hot. This Madd CrossFit series is awesome - can't wait for its spinoff, Battle Crows MC.

The last quarter of this year was a big ball of ahhhhhh. Which made reading hard as my brain just couldn't focus and writing reviews was impossible. However with that said I did read a few books and if I don't add them here I'll end up adding them to my TBR a dozen or two times because of my goldfish memory.

Two years ago, Cannel Crow experienced a horrific experience, she was abducted from a supermarket, and forced to spend a year with a man that treated her worse than an animal.

Her one saving grace was that she’d been sold to someone that hadn’t actually wanted to have sex with her.
His predilection was girls like his daughter.
She wasn’t certain of his reason for purchasing her, but she was glad that he did because she’d saved his daughter from being used by him, she bore the scars as proof.

A year later, she’s saved by a shadow organisation that doesn’t have much faith in the system…another year lapses and she comes to the conclusion that the law is flawed when the man that bought her from human traffickers, caged and then forced her to comply to his every whim for a year, is given a plea bargain in exchange for names of key members of the operation.

This, despite being part of the Cross Fit world, is less about the gym and more about the characters and their connection to the sport.

Will at thirty-seven thinks he knows who he wants, Brianna is the focus of his affection. He initially asked his partner out before he knew they were partnered. At first when he began, they caught a serial killer case, and he was working it with his chief, the FBI contact, and an old detective that knew about the case. During the case, he met Brianna. Found her attractive and asked if she would go on a date. She declined. He found out the reason a couple of days later when he learnt that she would be his field trainer. Which is senseless because she’s not working in a supervisory capacity. They were forced together because the chief didn’t want them to be confused on departmental procedures.

Brianna is ten years his senior and despite her rejection, he senses the feeling is mutual. After meeting Cannel, he suddenly sees Brianna in a different light, a beautiful shell but a rotten core. She’d gotten three partner transfers in her career, because each of those partner’s wives hadn’t been able to stand having their husbands work with her. Said partners had threatened to resign if they weren’t transferred elsewhere. He was now beginning to think that there was a reason no one wished to work with Brianna.

Will had witnessed the anger and the resentment, as well as the overall attitude of Brianna, but her pretty face had been distracting.

It wasn’t until the day he met Cannel, that he understood Brianna was jealous and vindictive-also a home wrecker. When someone prettier than her was around, she became vicious.

Cannel didn’t used to be unsure around men. Now, she was lucky to be around them without having a panic attack (PTSD side-effect).
She doesn’t do well in public unless someone she trusted was at her side—her best friends’ husbands…as long as she had someone.

She’d been snatched—whilst grocery shopping. She didn’t grocery shop anymore.

Cannel’s brothers—all five—are older and partly the reason she decided to move closer to them, is because they control the town.

Brianna is manipulative, intrusive and knows no boundaries. She intentionally sabotages relationships. For example, Will came in off his shift, there’d been a woman sitting next to Brewster, a male cop. She’d taken one look at Brianna, and her face had been devoid of expression. Brewster looked like he was about to start crying. And it was then he realised that at one point in time, Brewster and Brianna had been involved, only lasting a couple of days because it had ended when his wife found out. That hadn’t been the first relationship that Brianna ruined.
“Brianna, why do you sleep with married men only? Or men that are in relationships?”
“I like the thrill of it. The secrecy. I cheated on my own husband for fifteen months, and he didn’t even notice. That’s why I asked for a divorce.”

Cannel was abducted and lost two years of her life. Will is a local law enforcement officer, he loves his job and his friends. He's also consumed with CrossFit. When Cannel and Will meet, it sparks an attraction at an ideal time, a time when Cannel is trying to move forward with her life.

Cannel tracks him down one night at a bar and decides with some liquid courage to take him home with her. Things do not go exactly as planned and they get drunk and walk home to Will’s place since it’s closer, starting them on a journey that neither expected.

Chalk Dirty to Me is book 3 in the Madd Crossfit series and I was nervous. The previous book was so heartbreaking!!! But, I read all of LLV's books, so I knew I was gonna read this one. I wasn't disappointed!

Cannel has a very traumatic backstory that we are first introduced to in Trouper and Beckham's book, Conjugal Visits. I loved that we got more of her story in Chalk Dirty to Me. Will is a great hero for her because he is steady and safe. He has a bit of a grumpy exterior, but he knows exactly how to help Cannel. They really are perfect for each other.

Now, there is plenty of drama. First, Cannel's ex-fiancee is hanging around. Second, the man who kidnapped Cannel is making a deal with prosecutors. Third, Will's police partner is a total hater, causing all kinds of trouble. But, Will and Cannel weather all the storms with the help of Cannel's crazy family (her 5 brothers!). I truly enjoyed this story and the journey Will and Cannel travel. If you enjoy character driven stories with some crazy drama splashed in, Chalk Dirty to Me is a great pick!

The diversity of this author still continues to amaze me and I've be a fan since 2013.

Chalk Dirty to Me is a hard hitting emotionally raw real story of hurting, healing and learning all over again. It's impactful, it's heartbreaking and it inspires hope for the future. To put it simple, it's a rollercoaster.

Wilhelm Shultz is the rule follower. He's known as the hard ass... the gruff one who isn't interested in small chat. But under that hard exterior is a sweet man who cares for his nieces. A man who adores his family and is loyal to fault. He's a man that sees a woman broken and doesn't judge, instead he takes the time to earn her trust and then slowly heal her little by little until she feels whole through his kind of love.

Cannel Crow went through the unimaginable. In the case of bad situations, hers is definitely horrendous and life changing in the worst ways. With that came so much trauma and too many ignorant people unable to give the poor woman a break which in turn made her life so much harder than it already was. My gosh it was hard to read her struggles and not be fuming at stupid people and their idiotic assumptions of her. Cannel was the hero of her own story. She took steps to protect herself, she understood her limits and that she could grow with time and she didn't fool herself into thinking Wil wasn't her one despite her fears. She took back control after it was taking from her. She was courageous, strong and so damn sweet.

Their story isn't your typical romance because it couldn't be. Wil and Cannel took things slow and learnt one another in a special way. They supported eachother, they built trust and both of them opened up in a way they never had before. It was a gentle pace filled with growth and learning but it was not without its troubles. Both characters had so much to overcome and of course they were both stubborn and sassy at times which made for hilarious frustrating moments but just like everything, they pushed through and overcame every obstacles in their way. It was an emotional rollercoaster filled with unexpected happenings. I cried, ranted and fumed. I laughed, swooned and felt all kinds of satisfied. The epilogue had my heart skipping a few beats I was filled with that much happiness.

Lani like always brings fire with her huge storylines, larger than life characters and palpable emotions. There is never a dull moment, never a time I don't feel something or fall in love with the characters and connect in some way to their journey. Chalk Dirty to Me brought it all in its unexpected journey and I loved it hard. Now I find myself like always pinning for whats coming next because lord knows its going to be so freaking good. New series, new characters and a hell of a lot of challenges to overcome.... IAMREADYFORIT.
Did I mention Age gap.. SWOONING.
I need Sophia and Haggard's book.
But also... I'm claiming Madden now because I know that book will be breaking my soul.

Oooooo. Also... O'ryan I got questions awaiting to be answered. I need Always Someone's Monster!!!!.

He is part of a human trafficking ring and when he is arrested he is able to make a plea deal and live his life however he wants for the rest of it. The poor girl is working a job that she hates and is terrified of shadows, and does not like for anyone to touch her, not even her brothers who she loves with all her heart. They can not even hug her anymore. She soon though meets Detective Wilhem Schultz and while he is a huge man and that is intimidating to her she feels something for him that she was sure she would never ever feel again. And the feeling is mutual. He also does not know all of Chanel's story but he knows enough to take things really slow with her all the while discovering all that he can about her. He is going to be the man she needs him to be no matter what Even if that mean he has to betray the oath he took to protect and serve and do no harm. However he has this partner that is not making things easy on him and she has been known to break up more than one of his relationships. She wants him for herself and is willing to do whatever she has to do to have him. However is that all she wants or is something more sinister going on?? That you have to find out as you read but I promise this one will keep you on the edge of your seat and reading as fast as you can.

Really enjoyed Will and Cannel's story.

"The moment I'd seen him walking across the parking lot next to his partner, something weird and fluttery had started happening in my chest."

Cannel Crow finds it very challenging being around men. However, from the moment she meets Willhelm Schultz, she knows he is the one to help her move forward with intimacy, and help her live again.

"I almost lost you and I didn't even know that I needed you."

Will is a good guy. His nieces are pretty much his world and he's dedicated to his job. He's totally smitten with Cannel at first sight and realises quickly that she's skittish, but he's determined to take things at her pace.

Cannel (how would you say that name? Drove me kinda nuts deciding how I should say it! LOL) and Will were sweet and hot together. She had trust issues to overcome, as well as physical issues, but I loved how she instinctively knew that Will was someone good. Cannel was something of a contradiction. She could be incredibly skittish yet strong and stoic and full of fire. Will was such a great guy - I loved his focus and dedication. He was sweet and indulgent with his nieces, and I also loved how he stood up for Cannel. Overall, I enjoyed this book but, I gotta say, that there were a few nasty characters that I absolutely hated, so I spent half the time loving on Cannel and Will, and the other half hating on these other characters! However, great story and unexpected plot arc, as usual from this fab author, plus an intro to some promising new characters.

Loving this series and these characters! After getting bits of Cannel’s story in a previous book/series, I was so excited to find out that not only was she getting her own story, but we would find out what happened from her point of view. Will has started his career as a cop and while he was initially attracted to his partner, the moment he meets Cannel it’s game over for him. Not knowing what happened to her but recognizing that something has happened, he takes things slow, until someone continues to go after Cannel and take her life and he will not stand for it. This couple was so freaking cute, and I loved that both of them had character growth through the help and confidence of each other. I was somewhat shocked by the ending and who was behind it, especially because it seemed somewhat random while also somewhat expected, but it’s things like that which draw me to this author and her writing. I can’t wait for the next installment!

This one drew me in from the start. I liked how both Will and Cannel were smitten with each other from the start. To the point where both made some small changes in their behavior and thinking right after meeting each other. They also both admitted it to the other, very unusual. It was great that Will was ok taking things slow, Cannel needed that due to her past. With each step forward in their relationship, Will checked in with Cannel to make sure that was ok. This makes it sound like things moved at a snails pace, but that isn't true either, because at times things skipped ahead. They seemed to have their own pace which worked for them.

The drama these two did run into was others interfering with them, causing all sorts of issues. The worst was the person gunning for Cannel. That person was so wrong in so many ways, as was the person who knew about things and didn't do anything. I was glad when they were caught and put to a stop.

The ending to this one was good, glad to see these two living a happy life building a family.

Chalk Dirty to Me is the third book in Lani Lynn Vale's Madd Crossfit series. As with the two previous women in this series, Cannel is another incredibly strong, resilient character. She has been through a horrific ordeal. She was kidnapped, trafficked and kept prisoner for a year. She is now back in her hometown trying to regain her life. She is shy, reserved and afraid after everything she has endured. She has five amazing brothers that would do anything for and she is even reserved with them.

Police detective, Wilhelm Shultz (AKA Will) is protective and a little bit broody. He is a straight shooter with a heart of gold. From the moment, he meets Cannel he is drawn to her and will do anything to protect her, even if he has to step over the line of his oath to protect and serve. I adored Will and Cannel's connection. Every interaction between them had my heart racing and needing more.

From the moment, I began reading I was captivated by these characters, their back-story and all the suspense and drama! I could not put the book down. If you like your stories full of family, drama and suspense with a protective hero that will do anything for his girl pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A romance that I enjoyed reading, especially for the couple Will and Cannel that I really liked (Will with his hyper protective side <3)! However, I would have liked the non-romance plot to be more developed (especially the thing with Brianna) and I found the resolution to be a bit messy / flat ...
In short, a book that concludes a series of romances nice to read but not exceptional either and not my favorites by this author =)
When Cannel was introduced, my heart broke for her. What happened to her was the nightmare of all women. It was going to be a miracle for her to get her life to be somewhat back to being normal.
Will was someone that you knew was just wanting to find someone that he can actually see himself wanting a family with. So when he came face to face with Cannel and he felt this pull to be near her, he knew that she was that person for him. And Cannel felt something that she thought she was never going to feel again when she came face to face with this police officer that came to question her.
Together they worked to further heal Cannel to get her closer to being herself again. There was steamy moments between these two that will have you fanning yourself.
I cannot wait to see what LLV has in store for us next.
Typically LLV this book contained a broken but recovering sex trafficked woman from the first book in this series. Cannal. Will thinks he has the hots for his partner who is a Lolita character - loves to get her claws into a man when he is already attached to another woman. This makes for an awkward partnership for the police couple and she is his superior officer..
When Will decides his partner isn’t all that it’s because he meets the heroine. So the LLV love triangle square is a little OTT with Toot in the picture trying to win back Cannal and Brittany just being her loathsome self. The romance is lovely and the book was an easy read which is why I love this author. 🙃
Oh man! Will was great and my heart broke because of Cannel’s past. She was such a strong character. I loved that will was always there for her and helped her through her panics. She has to be one of my favorite leads because of her will to keep pushing forward. The banter between all the characters, the wholesome family feeling with all of them, and the steam made this a well rounded book that kept me hooked. We get a look into the leading males of LLv’s next MC series (Battle Crow MC) and I am excited! Now, I will say that I really want Maddens book. That man has been on my mind since we saw him when he was just a kid, and he really deserves a HEA after all that he’s been though. 5 stars #2OCCJD
When I got back to reading this book, I couldn’t get into it. And I haven’t remembered anything that happened in those last 8 chapters. Maybe it was because I was with my mom in hospital when I started it, so I was not reading, just seeing the words. Or maybe it was because I read many Mariana Zapata’s slown-burns lately and they had shorted my brains for Lani Lynn Vale’s fast-paced relationship development.
It took me a few chapters but I realized why I have re-read her books a few times now. Even though I would be happier if there was a bit less drama at the end. (It was overly complicated and not as well thought-out, in my honest opinion.)
Chalk Dirty To Me by Lani Lynn Vale
Madd CrossFit #3 - Releasing October 5
“That’s Mirabel.” She shrugged. “It’s like living with a three-year-old. At that age, they’re mostly efficient, can practically take care of themselves, but you don’t trust them not to burn down the kitchen when they feed themselves.”
Cannel and Wilhelm’s story is absolutely brilliant. If you have read some of Lani’s previous work you might have meet Cannel previously and got to see a little bit of her story. In this book we get to actually meet the wonderful women that she is and what she went through and Lani writes in in such a beautiful way.
Wilhelm is a local detective who absolutely loves his job, and his family. He will stand for what’s write and help protect those that need it. His partner on the other hand she’s a little different. Through out the course of the book you will get to see both Cannels and Wills side of their story and how these two fit perfectly together.
It’s an amazing book and I absolutely loved it. I’m absolutely loving this series and can’t wait for more!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Chalk Dirty to Me and for that I’m very grateful.
Well I liked it ok, but in the end, the heroine demanded the hero, should choose her over his job, and it went down hill from there, it work out ok in the ending, but still.
Another amazing masterpiece by LLV. I absolutely loved everything about this book. Cannel is one amazing, strong woman after everything that happened to her. Because of that, she seems a bit closed off by people. Until she meets Will.
It was instant for them. And I loved it. I don't mind it because I can truly feel their attraction and chemistry for each other. Their story is sweet, hot, and fun. But there are times when it gets emotional. I loved it. It's just an amazing book!
Chalk Dirty to Me❤️❤️❤️
Up next in the Madd CrossFit series is Cannel and Will❣️In the previous series Souls Chapels MC, you will recollect that Beckham and Cannel were friends and dating fighter pilot friends….then Cannel disappeared and in order to get her back, her fiancé at the time, negotiated trading Beckham for Cannel😢
Suffice to say this story starts off after Cannel’s already been back from being kidnapped and held prisoner for a year…now going on two years transitioning back to “her normal”. When Will and his partner meet her at the ER to interview her for information regarding an investigation they are looking into. Both are immediately attracted to the other, but Will recognises that haunted look of Cannel and eventually discovers why she is the way she is😳 I’m looking forward to discovering more about Cannel’s brothers in the future😍
I absolutely loved this book and couple and even though I have other ARCs I have due in the next day or two…I could not put this one down. A few twisty surprises I didn’t see coming in this one and definitely kept me on my toes🤩 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
At 74% of the way in, the book really confused. All of a sudden she didn't know he had a dog. But that was one of the first things she learned about him. We're told he is a slob. Before he cleaned his own dish (to her amazement) and said that it was something his parents instilled in him.
Also, what on earth happened to his cat? The one they talked about the first time she stayed at his place?
Cannel did know about Brianna. Will told her when they first met at the bar. Will also realized he loved her early on. Not when she almost died.
She said she was a simple girl who didn't ask for the "fancyass" ring her ex gave her, but then demanded an epic proposal and an OTT wedding.
Honestly, the book felt weirdly and extremely disconnected from about the 74% point forward. I've never seen this before in a LLV book. It's like she maybe took a break, then came back and forgot a whole lot of stuff. But why didn't her beta readers catch it? The ending felt rushed and shoddy. Kinda sad because I love this author and her books.
