Rate this book
Travelers to South India can't miss with this new guide, jam-packed with practical information on visiting Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and other southern spots. Special coverage of the gateway cities of Delhi and Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and a succinct yet lively guide to South India's famous festivals, lesser-known beaches and ancient temples combines with extensive accommodations listings and advice on where to go rock climbing or buy silk. With information on the national parks, a guide to local languages and of course detailed maps, all that's missing are the plane tickets.

OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

this travel guide to south india helped us get through Kerala and Tamil Nadu, two states in South India. We had been using the general guide to India, but we picked up the South India version while we were there, and we found it more specific and helpful since we were visiting the south.

After reading multiple books on traveling India, this one prevails as the best. I read the 2009 version and would highly recommend it.
