Secrets, lies, betrayal, war … family .

1914. English Heiress, Dianna Douglas, traded a life of idle leisure in Britain for one of rustic idyl on a Texas cattle ranch with her American husband Jake, and their three children. But when tragedy strikes, and their young son vanishes, Dianna and Jake struggle to bridge an emotional divide. They’re further separated by physical distance when a surprise visitor suggests their son may be found in England, and Jake insists on travelling alone to investigate. War is raging in Europe, and enemy U-boats stalk the Atlantic. He’ll not chance losing anyone else he loves on what might prove false information.

Dianna reluctantly stays behind to manage the ranch and care for their daughters, but when weeks turn to months without word from Jake, she can wait no longer.

With a dear friend at her side, Dianna returns to the land of her birth where she confronts hostile family, and traumatic history. And it is there, in reconciling the broken pieces of her past that she unearths the truths she seeks, leading her into the heart of danger on both sides of the English Channel as she fights to make her family—and their hearts—whole again...

Book two in the Dear One series is an emotional and absorbing read that sweeps across the Atlantic from the pastoral plains of Texas to Britain, and on through to war-ravaged France where a young couple must confront more than grief in their search for their son, and for a way back to each other.

Wow! I enjoyed the first book in this series (My Dear One) so much! It made me wanting more, and My Own did not disappoint!! It was exciting, and suspenseful, but at the same time a beautiful love story! My favorite books are Historical Romance, and Deborah Small did an amazing job of combining the two. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Of course, as the author, I'm going to give the story 5 stars. I have to, because no matter how many times I read the story during revisions, editing, and polishing, I still cried happy tears at the end.

It was a challenge to write this story; the research was intensive, and illuminating. Heart-breaking. The story itself heart-wrenching, and thrilling, as Dianna and Jake seek to overcome personal prejudice and insecurity, as they root out lies and reveal dangerous truths on the way to discovering that the only way to survive horrific loss and heartbreak, is by reaching out to those who love you most.

I love this story. I hope you do, too.

Barely married for two years, Dianna and Jake face a series of tragedies befalling the family. The bond of couple and family is tested heavily…
Though overly tragic, this story was absorbing. I also enjoyed that Dianna’s family helped her, even if it was after having worsened an already difficult situation. She finally had the opportunity to realize that she was loved. Be prepared to be engrossed in the book from the start and enjoy this heartbreaking but beautiful story.
