When John Phips, a vagabond, stops at the home of Ruby Alder, an elderly widow, and offers to do some work in exchange for a meal, Ruby agrees. But there is something familiar about John - in fact, she once knew a man named John Phips. But is this the same man? And if it is, can she trust him? How much has he changed in fifty years? This is a fun book, action packed with enough of the main characters to feel comfortable with them. Definitely a good, enjoyable teen read. I liked it and the ending surprised me although I still don't think I totally wrapped my head around the end. That part rang a little strange, taking this story down to 3 stars.
