Welcome to the best holiday of the year. Or so I thought...until the tricks began to outweigh the treats. Frog curses, poisoned candy apples, and a wayward vampire are only the half of it. Add in a two-hundred-year-old curse, a depressed poltergeist, and a dead body, and you can see why my enthusiasm for the witchiest day of the year is waning. Not cool, Halloween Hijacker. Not cool. And that's why you can bet your wand I'm not going to go down without a fight, even if my actions land me in grave danger.
I'm a mystery author with a soft spot for romance and humor, too. I love all things girlie with a dollop of danger, have a strong affinity for the color pink (especially in diamonds and champagne), and, not to brag, but chocolate and I are in a pretty serious relationship.
My books are fun and flirty, and feature smart and sassy sleuths. If you love books with a dash of spice and twist of whodunit, you're going to love my work!
Heading into the holiday season Angelica and the rest of the magical town of Silverlake are excited for what’s to come. But when curses start running rampant through the town bringing spooky Halloween decorations to life, not to mention the gargoyles that guard the church, something has to be done about it. Once again, Angelica, Vance, Percy the poltergeist, and friends will be called upon to set things right.
Spooked Solid is Book 3 in the Mystic Inn Mystery Series by Stephanie Damore. I really love this series and I was excited to be back in Silverlake and the Mystic Inn. Nothing is better than a mystery set at Halloween!
The town is on the heels of a successful festival and they are going all out for Halloween, but there is trouble a foot. There is more than one mystery to solve.
I absolutely love how well written this mystery is, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I did not want to put it down at all!
The characters are so fun and well developed.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series !
I love that Angie final rekindled her romance with Vance and Percy ended up with a new love. I love all the crazy twists and turns while trying to figure out who did it. Book 3 was another great book in the series, I’m ready to read the last book.
For two books, the first two books of this series, the background has been all about preparing for the Fall Festival. We have to do a Fall Festival to help invigorate the Town. We have to do a Fall Festival to help keep the shops running. We have to finish this inn renovation or all those attending the Fall Festival won't have anywhere to stay if they are out-of-towners.
AND NOW YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT THE FALL FESTIVAL IS OVER AND WE GET TO SEE NONE OF IT BUT HERE HAVE A STUPID HALLOWEEN EVENT?!
Are. You. Kidding. Me.
If the entire plan was to just SKIP the Fall Festival, why not make the town put more oomph into the Halloween festival and not create an entire, two book running plot just to throw it the hell away. This actually frustrated me to no end as a whole, and I was almost ready to just stop the book then and there.
Over all the mayham happening across town was interesting. The frog curse, the release of pixies in a store, the turned-alive decorations that kind of rolled through the town. I didn't even mind that ...you know what, hang on.
SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK AFTER THIS BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE DONE
Are we ready to discuss a little more spoiler-y for the whodunit for the mayhem? You sure? I don't want anyone calling foul because I didn't give you enough warning.
I didn't even mind that the frog curse was one person, with the kids, and the rest of the mayhem, the more dangerous part, was done by a neighboring mayor.
What I also didn't love, and contributed to the two stars and no more of this rating was that halfway through the book, the mayhem whodunit was complete. We understand. We know what's happened. And it really felt like the author went, oh no, I'm only halfway through the book, let me throw this MURDER into the mix now too. It's fine that we're halfway through the book, it's fine that there's a little bit of a why bother by this point, because the mystery and the resolve of the murder wasn't all that great either.
I actually found myself more invested in the ghost curse Percy was working on in the second half of the book over the murder.
But again, there's also this third ghost curse thing going on during all of this too.
With four different plots going on with different motivations, it's a LOT going on in this shorter side cozy mystery. I found myself hating how choppy everything felt because we're trying to keep track of everything going on and nothing is getting the full, attention of the book or author to be well flushed out and thought out.
Which is also why I've made the decision to not continue this series. I'm frustrated with how this book went down and I don't want to bring that into the rest of the series or other reviews. Maybe it works for the more casual reader, but I just didn't enjoy hopping between four different story lines within the same book.
A quick, disappointing read. Look, it wasn’t bad bad. Characters are still nice and I enjoyed the progress between Angelica and Vance. But this is supposed to be a mystery novel. When there is no body until page 133, after 57%, I’m sorry, that’s not a mystery novel anymore. Already in the previous books it took a while for the murder solving action to start, but 133 pages is way too much! And then it wasn’t even a good mystery to solve, one of the weakest I’ve read actually. Add to that quite some spelling mistakes and also timelines that didn’t add up with the previous book, like Angie getting back to town in August, now it’s Halloween and suddenly she’s back six months already. And the fall festival - why not add that little mention in the second book, give the storyline of two books a nice closure instead of adding here one quick scene that was totally out of place, time and style so far? So no, no more than two stars, barely, from me. I just hope the negative trend here isn’t going to continue.
The third book in the Mystic Inn series does not disappoint! Not only is it a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end, but you just can't put it down! Silverlake is getting ready for their Halloween Festival. The descriptions are great and you can see yourself there enjoying the view with the characters. Things seem to be going great until some unusual things start happening. It looks like the Halloween Festival is being sabotaged. But why and who is doing this? Angie is on the case! We are treated to not only murder, but poisoned candy apples, cursed cupcakes, gargoyles, and a ghost, Eleanor, confined to the tavern because of a centuries old curse as well as the Inn's poltergeist, Percy who needs Angie's help to try to break Eleanor's curse among many other incidences. I also love Aunt Thelma and Vance who play pivotal roles in these books. I love this series! I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Another excellent story in a wonderful series. Stephanie Damore has a way to make me addicted to the story and then leaves me with such a good feeling when I'm done reading. A great couple of mysteries, and a couple of sweet romances too, within this book. I love how this town of wonderful characters always pulls together to help each other. Quite a few unexpected turn of events. Always such a pleasure to travel to this wonderful town and spend time with these folks. Definitely one of my favorite series.
In Spooked Solid someone has hijacked Halloween! The nerve! I always enjoy a trip to Mystic Inn although this story takes place mostly in town. Fresh from the success of the fall festival, the town goes all out for Halloween. Then things start going terribly wrong. I love these characters. The people in the town are wonderful. Each new book feels like I am visiting friends. I love Percy's part of the story. You do not want to miss this special, well written mystery. I could not put it down!
This paranormal cozy mystery is a fun read. It’s Halloween in Silverlake and all the spooks are out and about, some with mayhem on their minds. There are several mysteries to solve, but I was kept guessing until the end. This book has a good plot, is skillfully written, and the characters are lively and believable. I’m looking forward the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
It is Halloween in Silverlake in this book. The setting was so much fun and the twist and turn of the mysteries will have keep you reading. You are not sure who is responsible for all the trouble that is going around and who killed the person. This author has such a rich cast of characters, the world she has created will have you enjoying everyone moment of this book/ series. I recommend reading this book, I truly enjoyed it.
What could be more fun than a witching community on Halloween? There were some scary pranks that negatively impacted the fun potential. Think destructive pixies, gargoyles brought to life, monster spiders. Angelica stays so busy trying to help everyone that I felt exhausted. I love her second chance romance and how they support each other. Don't forget there's a murder to solve and a curse to eliminate!
It's Halloween at Silverlake. Angelica has worked hard to bring a successful Halloween celebration to the town, and someone doesn't like it. Multiple people are cursed, Decorations come to life terrorizing some of the resident's, and multiple places are vandalized and destroyed. At the end of it all, A man is found dead outside one of the shops that had been destroyed.
This was a fun story with developed characters, a solid plot line, a good bit of humor with a touch of romance added in.
So it's time for the town to celebrate Halloween and there's lots of things going on. It looks like it's going good until people start croaking like a frog. There's also a depressed poltergeist, an ex-boyfriend and a maze where people go in but don't come out.
If that wasn't enough there's pixies that mess up a store, gargoyles, vandals and a cursed tavern ghost.
The author does a good job of tying everything together and the book has various really good things happening at the end.
Another fun quick read in Silverlake! It was over before I knew it, so I’m glad the next book in the series already has a release date haha. I could totally picture the town in all its Halloween festiveness, and the book had a few twists and turns to keep you in your toes too.
This is a fantastic series, just finished book 3 and ready to dig into book 4. It reads smoothly, engages the reader, well written and great characters. Also, great to be able to recommend a solid read to my young adult family that is free from smut, yet hits that paranormal read we all look for. Keep them coming!
What a fun Halloween night! Wish I had been there. Of-course tragedy struck in the early morning hours, when it was still dark. Thankfully it did not ruin the kids fun times. Good mystery, plus, there were a couple other things going on that made for some interesting side plotlines. I really enjoyed this book.
Simple, fun supernatural story with a dash of romance. Love these books for what they are....just a pleasant read to curl up with on a cold night. This story had a couple of subplots....who is making trouble on Hallowe'en, who is the murderer, and how to help. Percy break a curse. Lots of hi jinx in this story, and the romance between Vance and Angie is rekindled.
Some of the errors in this book pushed me into the “I Can’t Deal with This Crap!” Mindset! Ffs the Wrong last name And The Correct Last Name IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH?! Too much for me.
If you can ignore that, this is a Great Series! I loved the town and it’s quirky inhabitants but my Virgo Soul says Not For Me!
Like the other books, it's a cosy murder mystery in a magical town. I've listened to the audiobook which Aimee Reid read and it was good. Sure, it's a short/thin book, but I like the little elements of magic even though I wished there was more of it as well as a bit more descriptive of the places and how people looked.
The timing was off in this one. She talks about being there for over 6 months but from what I can tell, it’s barely been 3. Also needed some editing. I did love that we got to see the Halloween festival, after missing the fall one last book. Also loved Rocky the gargoyle. And Percy’s story le sigh.
This book is so great! So much fun! The Halloween hijinks are just so much fun to read! Angelica and Vance finally talk about how they feel. Percy is trying to help a friend. It’s hard not to give spoilers! The best one in this series yet! I can’t wait for the next book!
I give very few five star reviews but I think this one deserves it. There are so many twists and turns and yet each one is solved. Each is given the attention they need and none are just answered but really solved.
As with the previous books, this one is just as to the point with enough back story to not drag on and on. I can't wait for my pre ordered fourth book!
This series is such a great series with its fast paced plots, intriguing characters, mystery, and just a dash of romance. I can't wait to read the next book!
