Microbrewer Alchemis #1

Microbrewer Alchemist

Rate this book
Nate tried his best, but he seemed to always come up short. After his parents died in a horrific car crash, he uses the inheritance money to start a brewery and gets married.

Happiness doesn't last very long. The brewery is struggling, and his marriage is rocky. Still, he has his team at work supporting him. Until he doesn't.

Microbrewer Alchemist is the story of a man who stumbles upon a secret that he is still trying to understand while turning his life around at the same time. There are no intimate scenes or harems, but there is a bit of swearing.

Must love beer

I’m not a drinker, so a lot of the brewing and talk of flavors was a bit wasted on me. I could appreciate the craft, but that’s about all.

This isn’t a bad novel, it just isn’t a good one either. It’s more self-indulgent than anything.

The problem is how fortunate the MC becomes in such a short time. When the Martial Arts instructor suddenly offers to give them serious training, it just doesn’t feel right; it’s not truly supported in the narrative.

The inheritance issues are also not well supported. There are serious tax issues for the properties, and the investment account would have tax and reporting requirements. Enough that he might have lost the property due to unpaid taxes.

The (soon to be) ex-wife also lacked credence. While mention was made of her attractiveness, it was never covered how they got together in the first place.

You could practically brew your own beer after reading this, but if that’s not interesting to you, you should pass on this.

Slo start but runs like a diesel once it drives

Oh man I got to tell you I love this author, his books are entertaining period dot stop. I tell you honestly I love his books, I've read the bio medical self engineering. I can't get myself to get into the other one that he wrote the other series. But I'll probably read it eventually but I can't wait to read the next me microbrew Alchemist Book 2, there better be a book 6 though I'd like to see it go on for a time. kind of like the nate temple series. but overall really love the book writing was really good. little bit of a slow start it was more of a you know, a creeper. for the lit rpg role-playing game sort of thing, but it got good quick. and oh wow I just saw this book I don't want don't want to share what the plot line is its excellent. I love how it goes into detail on the brewing and actually made me think about getting back into beer. and Brewing myself so good on you for the author man. Nate goes from being a weak character to a very strong character real quick and I don't mean weak on the character writing. I mean week as in like a guy I wouldn't really fully respect but it seems like he gets his attitude change Midway through..

Thoroughly enjoyed

Slow steady plot.is the hallmark of this author. Though some elements more faster than reality.. Business formation and real estate deals especially inspections never happen that fast.. That said it is a very fun story About a newly minted alchemist and his new and abilities. Much like his last series the author wrote, The MCs are on their own to learn the boundaries and details of their new reality. Kind of fun really. As far as X. goes there is pretty much none though there are relationships. The series could easily have minor hair I'm elements as some of the stats that are affected are lust and looks and charisma so you have to expect a huge amount of magnetism and attraction. This wouldn't bother me at all as it's a natural progression of the abilities the author has given To these alchemists. Whether the MC continues his business empire or switches to a more mission focused lifestyle will be interesting in the next book maybe even both will be A possibility. I look forward to the next book .

Pretty good read

It might have a bit to do with my mood but I did spend about 8 hours straight reading this so onviously i still liked it. Overall a solid book to read. As a minor beer fan whos done like two kits for home brewing that was fun to read about and I also found myself enjoying the charcters. The mc and his girlfriend had some believeable hiccups that really made it feel a bit more real.

That said there was a bit of oddness all around that was a bit hard to put my finger on exactly. And there is the problems with the drastic change to the mcs personality and relationships that while mentioned off handed felt like the change wasnt well described. "He was more confident" instead of steps and more thoughts along the way left me rolling my eyes a bit.

But again. 8 hours, no breaks first page to the last. So still a good read.

A bit odd

I enjoy lit/rpg and started reading this because the alchemist part of the title not being a microbrew fan. I have learned more about craft beer making than I ever wanted to reading this, that being said it was oddly enjoyable even though the character building led to a slow start. The sample sets a pace that eventually ramps up but it also dials back and goes off track at times to me. The relationship that Nate has with Andrea is a little up and down to me and that makes sense since they just started dating and they are talking about... I don't do plot spoilers. Overall it was interesting and I will look forward to book 2 and be prepared to have my wine cooler ready.

I really like this concept… But…

I really liked the concept of this novel! How are in oneself up with alchemy it’s just fun! However, need the main character starts in abusive relationship and just picked up a new one… he goes from a bad situation with a cheating wife, a bad new business partner, and other issues… Into giving everything to a girl that he’s just starts dating. Throughout the novel they have conflicts, and each time he submits to her. Then finally the surprise twist at the very end, it’s just confusing… I will read the next novel. But, I’m really hoping for a stronger main character.

Slice of life

At one point in this book I was so excited. The story built up to being a fantastic adventure… and then slice of life keep chugging away. I enjoyed the book but am glad it is over. The LITRPG component is extremely limited with very little detail given and the main story is about running a business and a relationship. I think the slow pace of slice of life just killed the story line I wanted to follow. It is still there and perhaps a sequel will get it.

But of course!

If you are a beer geek (or a cheese maker, like I am), this book will satisfy the deepest longings of your hop-loving soul. If you don’t enjoy the art and science of making complicated stuff to eat or drink in the middle of the night all by yourself, it may not be your cup of tea (or pint of lager). But for me it was a lovely romp, combining the joy of crafting, a bit of GameLit, and a good old-fashioned adventure story.

Slice of life with a pinch of alchemy

I liked this. It was slower paced but interesting. I have liked the authors books so far because his characters have fun hobbies I am completely unfamiliar with and never would have encountered otherwise.

I do wish the story itself had more progression. Maybe dig into the whys and hows of alchemy more or the mystery of his parents.

Overall, it was a lot of fun and I will read book two!

A beer geek viewpoint review

Is am a beer geek, more than 3000 check ins on untappd, and an occasional home brewer so all the beer detail rings true for me. Then you mix in fantasy, and actually cone out with a coherent novel. This kept me up late last night and I finished the book this afternoon. I read a lot and I will bail on a book if it will not hold my interest, this certainly did.

Not what you think

Get a few chapters in first before making your mind up its a slow burner but by halfway through you will be hooked, if you like alchemy books but set in modern day not the middle ages or another world then you wil like this one, theres a sort of base building fighting learning vibe to this book also a whodunit about halfway in a real zero to hero vibe and i can not wait for book2 as the cliffhanger needs to be explained in the next book.

If I have to read another page about him cooking an omelette I think I’ll go insane. Reading this was like taking a really strong sedative. There’s ‘slice of life’ and there’s ‘mundane shit that just goes on and on oh god’. The highlight was him getting a haircut I guess? God knows. I can feel brain cells dying as I try to remember it. But if you dig the characters you’ll enjoy it I bet.

This one sneaks up on you.

This has a slow start that does not impress, but about one hundred pages in, it turns into a surprisingly good slice-of-life book that has an exceptional pace. The end leaves you with a plot line you never saw coming. The whole thing is definitely worth keeping an eye upon. As a series, I see a lot of potential.

I would love some of that alchemy for myself

It was thoroughly entertaining. Plenty of plot twists and action. You'll like some of the characters and not others. Wonder why they did it that way and not the other.

Looking forward to the next book

Better than expected, but light on the alchemy

If you’re looking for intensive alchemical research or really much todo about alchemy besides the title, look elsewhere. But if you’re up for a light adventure with a guy that probably loves beer too much this is a pretty good book

Brewing with a side of Gamelit

My brother in law is a brewer and I never cared for his passion for it but now I have to apologize to him and introduce him to this book. Thank you very much! I truly enjoyed it!

Light and fun

A great read.
Having said that it’s always a bit frustrating when an author starts up a new series without finishing the other…
But still a lot of fun, cliffhangers and all that…

A lot to like

An enjoyable book, clearly playing on expertise in restaurants and breweries. The beer and alchemy was fascinating. I wish the author didn't feel the need to make the Mc's good at everything, the modeling bit maybe too much wish fulfillment.

Book one

Mistakes: I found a few scattered throughout the book. Nothing to bad.

Plot: This is a very gamelite slice of life book. Don't expect a lot of stats. Good story though.

Characters: Lots of character growth. Likeable characters.

Nice tie in - brewing and alchemy with a touch of romance.
Glad I gave the book a chance, it kept my interest through the end.
Great lead in for the next book in the epilogue.

A very fun read

Lots of wish fulfillment, which makes it a fun and lighthearted read overall, despite a few more serious themes. Fun character development with Nate and Andrea. I look forward to a bunch more.

Cooking, not Brewing
I could not get past the pages and pages devoted to breakfast, 3 pages of dialog then a dozen to lunch, 3 for the story another dozen to dinner. I had to put this book down.
It had a great brewing background, but it seemed to me mainly a home cooking book.

DNF 10%

The story was poisoned, for me, because I thought it was an Isekai story of a brewer transported to a fantasy world to do alchemy. I would have continued but I disliked all of the main characters; insanely jeleous, lazy gas-lighter, socially oblivious. This book is not for me.
