Bears of Asheville #2

His Patient Bear

Rate this book

Austin loves his life. He’s the youngest mayor in Asheville’s history, currently serving his second term. He doesn’t think anything is missing until Nash blows into town like a whirlwind. Austin didn’t know trouble could look so good.

Nash only has one rule: Never show weakness. So what if people think he’s rude and arrogant? Good. If they don’t like him, they won’t get close. Better to be disliked than treated as less than capable just because he’s an omega.

He is ready to go toe to toe with any alpha. Until Austin. The only alpha who makes him feel things that scare him.

And he wants to claim Nash.

I liked this book better than the first, despite the drama toward the end (which wasn't necessary imo).

Mayor Austin was indeed patient with Nash, who came across as defensive and abrasive initially (not that I blamed him when his father treated omegas like baby factories).

This is definitely an mpreg focused story, but the pregnancy stereotypes were kept to a minimum.

The editing could have been cleaned up a bit, but I still enjoyed this sexy and very sweet bear shifter/fated mates story. The Asheville bears are delightful!

Don’t push, have patience, don’t push. Austin wants to claim Nash, only Nash is a hardheaded independent omega who doesn’t need an alpha. Austin is smitten by Nash. He just desperately wants to swoon Nash and even that is a tough case.
His bear is yearning for his mate, he has to convince Nash of his feelings.

Nash lives far away from his family, as an omega he should get a mate and pop children.
He’s independent and runs a business in mayor Austin’s town. Never show weakness is what he lives by. In Nash’s eyes, all alpha’s are the same, they think omegas are helpless creatures who need an alpha. Little does he know about Austin.

Ahh, I felt for Austin, sweet caring Austin, what he felt every time his omega walked away.
I wanted to shake Nash awake, his walls are so high.
Austin did everything at Nash his pace, what he wanted, Austin was hugely patient.
The story is sweet, sexy, and pictured different kinds of alphas and omega.
Austin and Nash were nicely developed. Family stands on top of it all. The story has an easy pace, no rush, it shows enough of everything to understand the whole picture. They get their deserved happy ending but first, they have to overcome some difficulties.
Overall a kind, entertaining, enjoyable story.

A one-night stand leads to a pregnant omega and the town mayor finding their HEA!!

His Patient Bear was a sweet story of the most patient bear that ever lived because he really was to handle Nash with such care and understanding. There were moments where I felt like Nash was going a bit too far in his insecurities but at the same time, I get it. When people are constantly second guessing your decisions, it makes you feel like you aren't capable. Even though Austin had his own problems being the mayor and having anxiety he really did do everything he could to make sure his baby and Nash were taken care of and that was just sweet perfection!!

Both books in the Bears of Asheville series have been so totally sweet and fun reads. I highly suggest you give this series a read if you are looking for something that will give you all the feels and steam!!

His Patient Bear by Skye R. Richmond is the story of Nash and Austin. Nash is an omega with high ambitions. He is also opinionated and snarky. Unfortunately his parents believe Omegas should stay at home, raise children, and do what their Alphas tell them to do. He put himself through college, even though his parents could have afforded it, and is now working for his father’s company, even though his dad doubts Nash can do well at it. He is in charge of a construction crew that is building a lot of new houses in the town of Asheville. Austin is an alpha and is the mayor of Asheville and his greatest attribute is his kindness. He loves his job but sometimes has panic attacks over all he has to do. His brother is the sheriff in town and his other brothers also work hard at businesses there. He has a great family who clearly love and want to be with each other. They first meet when Nash has a one-night stand with Austin in another town and doesn’t think anything else about it other than it was a great time. They next meet when he needs to get a permit and he ends up waiting or Austin to get back from what he is doing and is not happy at how long it takes. He becomes his usual snarky self and is somewhat demanding because he doesn’t want alphas to think they can walk all over him. Austin is smitten at that meeting but he soon realizes that he will have to be very patient to show Nash that he isn’t like other alphas and that they would be good together. Nash has to learn that not all alphas are alike and some will like him just the way he is. Their story continues as Nash slowly tells Austin about his life and family and then learns he can trust Austin. Throw in a consequence of their one-night stand, difficulties with Nash’s family, some problems at the construction site, and a disgruntled employee that doesn’t think omegas should be in charge of anything and you have a really good story. I like books that are set in the Alpha/Omega world and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more books by Ms. Richmond.

3/5.

I'll be honest, the first half of this book I wasn't a fan of because the animosity part of enemies-to-lovers always gets to me. I also didn't realize this was secret baby, but there it was! However, once we got past Nash being an asshole to Austin, we get to the good stuff.

Nash and Austin's relationship is very sweet. We get an equal partnership, both of them comforting each other through various difficulties. While I was frustrated with Nash's attitude and wishy-washyness at times, I do understand how that personality and defensiveness comes through because of his family. I liked how Austin supported him, but Nash also supported Austin with his anxiety disorder. The patience (hah) Austin had and not pressuring him to do anything he didn't want to was very sweet, and add in the aspect where Nash finally said "you don't have to tiptoe, just be honest". That was good. There was also no 'leading on', Nash set boundaries and didn't break them, so Austin was never thwarted with the "wait actually we can't do this!". I appreciated that.

However, a major thread that was treated lightly and didn't get addressed was the fact that Austin said he got off his anxiety medication so he could scent properly. There was an increase in his panic attacks but it's never said he starts taking them again? Or what his doctor thinks about that? They both go through a VERY traumatic experience towards the end of the book and I know he was dealing with panic attacks, but even if not suggestion, you'd figure he'd go back to his medication? IDK. That bothered me that it wasn't elaborated on.

The last 20% was very angsty although we obviously got our HEA. I cried a lot, but won't spoil it here. I do recommend it if you want a fated mates but not instalove read.

Well this book was GOOD. Not perfect, but GOOD.

Austin seemed fine in book 1 and 2 and now... now there was so much more about him, between his life as a mayor and his personal problems/difficulties, at times he made it look like he hated his job and I was constantly wondering why he kept at it, but later it's showed why and how he thrives at it and it makes sense... made me connect to Austin and love him a little with how brave, determined, loyal and passionate he was, to his family, his town and his partner... and this time, in comparison to book 1's bear... IT MADE SENSE for him to have insecurities about his partner and his job and this town.

Nash was FUN! From his first appearance and his attitude and personality throughout the book he was a joy to read. Given, there were a couple decisions he made that were meh... or a lit bit dumb, but not much and his background did gave them realism and well, we all make mistakes, right? So I related to him as a female presenting person and having grown in a very conservative family and community. It also endeared him to me his relationship with his family and in particular how the one with his mother is somewhat developed by the end of the story.

There's also some real emotion, suspense and excitement... (in a non-sexual or romantic context) that drove my attention for a good deal of the pages. Between Austin's growth and troubles being a mayor and Nash's growth and troubles... and danger working at the construction... well, there's lots to have fun with here.

I give this book a solid 3 out of 5. I hope this is a sign that all books from here will be just as good. Often the first one in the series isn't as good as the rest so I'm hoping for the best. Please support the author, buy, read and review her books.

3.5. I really loved Austin even though I felt he was way too accommodating and, though I feel like I should appreciate how much he wanted Nash to be happy, it kind of ticked me off how little he catered to his own needs. Yes, it's great to be supportive of someone's decision re pregnancy, but the whole 'it's your body, I will support whatever' while reallly wanting to be a father, and not voicing it, like his desires/feelings didn't matter at all, made me sad. I just feel like he bent over backwards for Nash and it's great that it worked out and Nash started appreciating it, but the whole thing kind of irked me.

As for Nash, I feel like I should have liked him more. I get what he was dealing with as an omega battling stereotypes, and wanting to march to the beat of his own drum...truly I get it. But I think because Austin's acquiescence was so over done, it made me resent him a little. Plus, I'm all for kind, caring and progressive alphas, but I still need to feel the alpha vibe in the character and, outside of Austin's bear, eh. As an aside, it was actually refreshing to have Hunter not be all ga ga over Nash. And, by the way, after all Hunter did for him in the end, did I miss a scene where Nash actually THANKED HIM, and realized he just showed love differently?

The storytelling was good and I enjoyed, but it was a bit too saccharine for me and I was skimming by about 75%. Austin needed a bit more grit; he was just too 'perfect'. Also, the 'mate' references got a bit trying after a while. We got it. Still a good read. 3.5

Patience galore

The title is spot on! Austin has his hands full being mayor of Asheville. Now, the PM for the new housing development is the omega that he had a one night stand with! Oh, he is pregnant too and he has scented as his mate. Who is the father of his baby though?
Nash has always had to fight for everything because he is an omega and shouldn't want a college degree or to be PM on one of his families jobsites according to his father and alpha siblings. He finds out his one night stand is also mayor of the town he is working in. Not to mention at three months he has finally accepted he is pregnant. With his hard won independence at risk, pressure from his father and alphas on his jobsite can he trust that Austin is not going to insist he stay at home to raise the baby like most alphas in his life? Nash also has to tell him he is the father too, now they know each others name and they are sober.
Austin tries to be patient and show Nash he is different from those that underestimate him because he is an omega. Austin shows he is extremely patient! Once he starts to drop his walls, Nash can see the kindness towards him and the true admiration Austin has for him. Can he trust it to last? Will he make the deadline for his job? Will Austin actually reach out to his family about his anxiety attacks? Can he be all the town and his new family needs?
This was a sweet follow-up to Gabe and Kian's story.

Another great addition to the series – hopefully they keep coming!

I’m really liking this series so far. In this book we get to see Austin (sweet, cuddly, lovely Austin) woo his mate Nash. I’ll admit (and you might have already guessed) I absolutely adored Austin. He was such a good, kind, calm, loving person. Nash was not the easiest person to deal with. That’s not to say I don’t understand Nash and why he’s so difficult sometimes, but Austin really was the epitome of understanding. No matter what he was there for Nash and trying to show him he could trust Austin not to be like all the people who had hurt him before. I liked Nash but I found him harder to warm up to. A lot of that came from how much more closed off he was. He had good reason to be, don’t get me wrong, but it just meant that it took me a bit longer. There were also a few occasions I felt like shaking him. I understand he’s had to fight for his whole life to be seen as something other than just an omega to his family but Austin really never came across as being like Nash’s family and I sometimes felt Nash perhaps was afraid of accepting he might actually get his HEA (realising you might actually get what you wanted deep down can be just as scary as fearing you might never have it). Either way, beyond the occasional frustration I really liked Nash and Austin together. They make each other happy and Austin’s unwavering love and support for Nash was lovely to see. Bring on the next book!

You don't always have to do it all on your own! Austin, is the youngest Mayor in Asheville history. He loves his town, he loves his job, but sometimes the burden is supersized heavy. He wants nothing else in life, except maybe someone to share it with. Nash, is an omega, who has had to fight to get where he is, while laboring under the burden of designation prejudice professionally and personally. He knows his family loves him, but they are a bit stuck in their way. He is the Project Manager developing a new housing development with many Alphas working under him. He is not your typical meek submissive eager to please Omega. Austin and Nash have several professional meetings. Nash, is a pistol, Austin is intrigued, plus he realizes Nash is his mate. How does he tell him about mates and his bear? Will Nash be receptive? Can Austin pile on the charm? Good story. Nice to meet Austin up close and personal. The family is absolutely delightful. Nash, is actually a fantastically strong man. Well done!

Austin is an alpha and the mayor of their shifter town.
When he is pulled from his duties to meet a demanding contractor, his memory is jogged as he comes across his mate for a second time.

Nash is an omega with a chip on his shoulder. Always having to prove himself, he is not going to just settle down and raise a family.
But, when he sees Austin again, he can’t deny the symptoms he is experiencing.

Armed with a ton of a patience and a meddling family, Austin knows his mate cannot deny the pull between them for long as he sets out to prove to him that not all alphas are the same.

This was an enjoyable read, packed with sass, humour, action, a bit of danger and an emergency birth.
I’m looking forward to seeing the next brother find his mate.

Loved, loved, loved Austin and Nash!! Austin, an Alpha Bear is the youngest mayor that the town has ever had. Nash, an Omega is in charge of a project that will help with housing for the town. Holy moly was Nash ever so stubborn! Nash is determined to never show any weakness’s, he’s snarky and sassy and I loved him sooo much! Austin is determined to be as patient as can be to get his mate! I loved that we get to catch up with Kian and Gabe and all the rest of the family! This was overall a fantastic read. The story is really well written story, highly recommend. Sweet, a little preachy

Nash has something to prove as an independent omega, so he makes Austin work for their relationship. Like 3 months. Hunter is the real patient bear.

Nash's reluctance to mate is the real conflict, but there's also some issue with some alphas not wanting to work for an omega. It isn't all in his head.

Austin works super hard to be a perfect alpha. It would've been nice if he didn't have to do it for his partner too. At least Nash appreciates it.

My neeps are mostly to do with the hospital scene, which was not realistic, but the women's rights message is over the top here too.

It doesn't get any better than this. This was an amazing reading experience. I usually don't like the second book of a series better than the first, but this book I absolutely loved it! It was laugh out loud funny.

The two MCs went from enemies to friends to lovers in a very entertaining manner. Of course there are appearances from the Bears in the previous book.
This unconventional Omega has spent years trying to prove to people including his family just what a determined Omega was capable of achieving. But not all Alphas appreciated an outspoken Omega. This led to suspenseful confrontational events but eventually a mayorial HEA.

What an exceptional love story. Austin is a mayor of a small town but he is feeling like something needs to change for him. Nash has came to town to build some houses and he has no time for alphas. He is an omega in a alpha run world and he scrapes to make people see he is more than an omega. They start out having a disagreement but as they see each other more and start working together to solve Nash's problems with permits and workers they find they have so much more.

I did receive an Arc for a review.

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! In this case it's bear shifters. On the one hand you have Austin, a bear shifter and the mayor of Asheville. His is kind and patient gentle that is until he is pushed too far. On the other hand you have Nash a fierce Omega who is hell bent on proving that an Omega can do more than have babies and stay at home. The two spent a heat filled night of passion which neither one can forget about. Nash becomes pregnant with Austin's baby. Can the two become more? I loved this book. A beautiful love story. I highly recommend.

Another cracker

Loved this just as much as the first. It’s all family. Austin was just complete sweetheart and really liked his character. He had a realness to him. Not the typical alpha style. Nash took a little while to like. Granted he was treated as he was less then so I understood it but I felt protective to Austin haha. Really enjoyed this book. I’ll keep reading this series and hoping all the brothers get their mates. Reread pile!

His Patient Bear is the second book in the series and follows the story of Austin and Nash. I really liked the first book and wanted to like this one as well. However, I felt that there was just too much going on with the story and struggled the read until the end. I did finish the book and overall it was a good read but could have had fewer twists and turns to the overall story and more "bear shifter".

Loved it

I liked the last book, but I liked this one even more. These two are so cute together with their little fights and doubts. I enjoyed that it had a bit more drama than the last but nothing major. And the love story was just as sweet. Nash and Austin make a good pair.
