I really like this series, in Left to Prey, Adele is in France and Spain, hunting the killer who is picking his victims in the Santiago de Compostela trail. Every lead she has reaches a dead end and the murders keep on happening. To make things worse, John keeps on receiving phone calls and messages that he does not want to answer in front of her. Whilst all of this is happening her mother's killer makes another victim, and is someone she once really loved. This story has a great plot, lots of action, and it seems like all the reasons that led the Spade Killer to his heinous acts are going to be set in the clear in the next book of series. I can't wait to read it! As a member of the author's ARC team, I downloaded a free copy of this book through BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.
The theme for this instalment is religiosity at its worst: A victim of abuse has taken it upon himself to right the world and rid of it of homosexuals. God has sent him. His victims need absolution. At the turn of it, Adele's mother's killer turns himself in, and he enjoys torturing Adele, toying with her, and seeing her lose it (he denies her the satisfaction of catching him). Oh, Adele. So far, so good.
This is still my hands-down favorite series from Blake Pierce. I love Adele Sharp, and the banter between her and John Renee is always lively. Another serial killer on the Santiago de Compostela trail in Spain, leaving bodies in his/her wake. The leads are taking them nowhere and John is being secretive about communications he’s receiving when Adele is around.
Add the resurfacing of the Spade Killer, who once again strikes with someone Adele was once close to and you have another Pierce book you can’t put down. I can’t wait for Adele to catch him and will be waiting anxiously for Book 12 of this series.
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. **
3.5 because I liked it better than the most recent books in the series but not enough to give it 4 stars. This still was very predictable and followed the author’s format for the series. The personality of Adele’s character, though still two dimensional in my opinion, turned up a notched. She’s still the mistrustful, self deprecating, hot head, that lacks impulse control occasionally but some how it works for her. On the other hand Jean René gets more interesting in each book. This book was no exception. Overall I enjoyed the book. I’ll be reading the next book.
Adele Sharp is unlikable and so very flat character. Maybe, just in this particular book if the series. I've finished it anyway, so three stars. Why was John described as big (15 times) and tall (16 times) at every appearance? I've got it, he's tall. No need to repeat. And 28 times large, ok, not only him, in general. But it was weird.
Religious trail of the Santiago de Compostela bodies found among the 500 mile trail. FBI. Agent Adele, clues not leading to information With a serial killer here, and that of her mother Striking again. Good series Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
As with all the books I've read Blake Pierce, this book is riveting and keeps you wanting more!! This series is one of my favorites. The way he delivers the story keeps the reader hooked.
This series is great. Action packed with one case solved and another continuing. I can't stop reading until the demise if the spade killer. I'm ready to jump into the book and get him myself.
Most of these books are the same, get the wrong guy a couple times then miraculously find a bit of information last minute that leads too the right one... however the ongoing story line keeps me reading and keeps me hooked. The ending of this book made me move STRAIGHT ON too read the next one
Fast paced, twists and turns. Adele really needs to get some sleep! One needs to suspend reality regarding the plenary indulgence criteria which actually requires more than what is stated. In that sense, the story falls short of authenticity. Someone needed to present the truth somewhere along the line. Once that truth is suspended, and given the story is fiction, it was an enjoyable read.
Another great book by Blake Pierce. While Adele is hunting down a killer in Spain, the Painter, who she assumed was dead, resurfaces & kills again. Cannot wait to read the next book!
An enjoyable story-tracking new murders, catching the murderer, then old wounds opened as the killer of her family comes back to haunt the female detective.
Another fast pace hunt for a serial killer. An interesting twist in the unsolved case regarding the murder of her mother. I can't wait for the next installment in this series.
I rather used to like Adele and John, however, in this book I am finding them continuing a trend of being more and more dislikable lawbreaking bullies. I won't be finishing the series.
