A Little Different From The Rest : An Autistic Adventure

Rate this book
Alfie is not the average nine year old. In fact he is not the average anything. He is a remarkable and intelligent child that is just a little different from most other kids.

After a family tragedy Alfie along with his imaginary friend Stubbs (a spider with seven legs) must go on imaginary adventures to help Alfie cope with his feelings of abandonment and loneliness. From a swashbuckling pirate, to a grizzly Detective, Alfie must play out his many roles in order to battle his inner demons.

Carol is a step Mum doing her best, but when she realises that she alone can help Alfie be more accepted and understood, she must fight for her Son while also dealing with an abusive marriage. She no longer will sit back and let others dictate that her little boy is naughty, bad or broken, she will show them all how amazing he really is.

This is a story about Autism, about Neurodiversity, about fear, loss, acceptance and about love. It is a personal insight into the mind of an Autistic child from the mind of an Autistic adult who used to be that child. It is loosely based on events in my life with some added differences for literature purposes.
