Anyone looking to tackle this difficult and complex area of legal study, they should look no further than Lloyd's Introduction to Jurisprudence. It sublimely combines text with source extracts meaning it is an indispensable guide to the voluminous wealth of source material.

I have not by any means read this book through, but nevertheless find it hard to resist rating it, since I think three stars as an average much too uncharitable for such a work of scholarship.
If one is interested at all in Law, Politics, or Philosophy, it is worth having simply to browse— and! (wonderful to say) — it is extremely cheap (if you can find yourself an old edition).
Perhaps an economist would like to dissert upon this point as an example without parallel of depreciation; for I paid the grand sum of £2 for my copy, which, new but a few years ago, was first sold for sixty.

This is a comprehensive synoptic view of jurisprudence from antiquity to late modernity. It consists of the most relevant excerpts drawn from all the greatest Western jurisprudes. I heartily recommend it for the depth, quality of selections, and breadth. Can serve as a reference in law libraries as well as a course book for teaching the philosophy of law.
