Wow. I can't describe how emotional this book made me. The characterization is just incredible and the development of the relationships between the Marauders and others was so beautifully done. I don't think I could ever read a book this good again! Thanks for making me cry :)

744 pages of this book, and it’s like watching the prisoner of Azkaban movie and it’s best bits - they get to live a normal school experience well if you call being a werewolf the usual. I will be crushed knowing I had basically read through there lives just to watch them die, I’m not ready and I don’t think I will ever be.
I read all of 5th, 6th and 7th year in two days, and I am glad to say thank you messrs moony, wormtail, padfoot and prongs for your hogwarts journey and bringing me so much joy.

I am wayyy to emotionally attached to all the characters so I know the next books gonna hurt. This book was absolutely incredible 10000/10, insanely good. I don’t know how I’ll ever recover it was that good. It broke my heart but also healed it at the same time. Also I had a stupid shit eating grin on my face for most of the book. Currently crying tears of joy.

واقعا از ته دل میخواستم برخلاف جلد قبلی بهش ۴ ستاره بدم؛ بخاطر اینکه داستان سال پنجم و ششم صرفا در مورد احساسات در حال غلیان ریموس به دلیل سن بلوغش بود و تمام فکر و ذکرش شده بود چه سری، چه دُمی، عجب پایی و ... ! و من واقعا از حجم رمنس این دو سال به ستوه اومده بودم! 😂
اما خب یه ستاره بیشتر بهش بخشیدم بخاطر داستان سال هفتم.😌

I feel conflicted about this book. Years 5-6 were absolutely tedious, I did not enjoy the constant pining and the complete focus on Wolfstar. It bored me to death. In general, I found the heavy focus on sex (not just Remus/Sirius but also Mary/Sirius) to be over the top. I wish MKB would've continued more in the coming-of-age style of the previous instalment instead of shifting towards a full on romance/ new adult novel. So many important events, like THE prank, were glossed over. Snape barely shows up afterwards, which makes no sense. And even cute little romance details that pertained to the other couples, e.g. Lily finding out that her Patronus is a doe, weren't included. (What would I have given to read of her embarrassment once she realised James' was a stag. Can you imagine the constant teasing from Mary and the boys??? Welp. We were robbed.)
Year 7, however, cured my depression and is everything I ever wanted from this fic, maybe even life. ;) Don't get me wrong, the constant mention of sex and drugs was still over the top and out of character (imo) but everything else was literally perfect. I have zero complaints with how she developed the characters in that year. Year 7 is also the longest year (almost 400 pages!), so it reads like a true novel in its own right, whereas the other years ("only" 100-200 pages) often feel like a summarised version of events. Year 7, I would die for you!
Do I think that the second book needed to be 750 pages long? Nope. Certain things could've been cut; Year 6 was a huge miss for me overall, 100 pages went by and I didn't mark anything of significance. Certain things felt hella repetitive, whereas others lacked context. I know I'm asking for a lot and I am aware that this is only a fic, with little to no editing etc., so I just wanted to reiterate that I am having a HELLA GOOD TIME reading this. MKB's All the Young Dudes is a gift sent from the Gods. It's the Marauders fic I've wanted to read ever since I was 12 years old.
Favorite/ notable moments:
YEAR 5
● I'm a big fan of Euphemia and Fleamont, the way Remus (as well as Sirius ofc) feels at home at the Potters is truly heartwarming
● Dumbledore making Remus prefect without altering his silver pin, knowing full well he's a werewolf and allergic to silver ... I love that MKB hates Dumbledore as much as the rest of the fandom
● the boys transfiguring the pin from silver to tin, and when Remus is surprised by this sweet action, Sirius says: "Anything for our Moony." (G'NIGHT, this quote lives in my head rent free)
● Sirius only wanting Remus to see his scars (from his mother's abuse) and not James – I CRY
● "You're a coward, Regulus Black. Don't ever forget that." – DAMN, do not piss Remuss off, but what was Regulus supposed to do ... their mother is CRAZY
● "We'vebecomeanimagus" – YUP, I too would be stressed revealing that to Moony after he specifically asked you not to LMAO
● "All right, Bambi, calm down." – LISTEN the way I will be referring to James as 'Bambi' from now on, this is my new personality trait
● "Was I scary?" - "No, you were beautiful."
● "A gentleman!" Sirius scoffed, when the marauders were alone, "I speak five languages! I have a family motto! I can ballroom-bloody-dance! I have twelve sets of dress robes! What more does she want??" – LMAO I love Mary, she has these boys in a chokehold
● Regulus being hurt when Sirius burns his letter, BESTIE I AM IN TEARS, I need these brothers to be fine
● Remus hiding his Christmas present for Poppy in the hospital wing because he's too shy to give it to her in person – I CANNOTTT
● Walburga using the Unforgivable Curse on Sirius over Christmas and him barely being able to flee to the Potters' place
● study groups with Professor Lupin – I LOVE IT
● Remus kissing Sirius at his 16th birthday party
● James being the first one to know that he wants to join the war effort after graduating, and Sirius being immediately on board – MY BOYS
● THE "prank" (aka Sirius luring Snape to his death) was underplayed, I really think MKB should've put more of an emphasis on it bc besties IT IS FUCKED UP
● "It appeared that betrayal was not enough to kill desire, though it made hiding it easier. By the time that wretched summer term ended, the only person Remus despised more than Sirius was himself, for continuing to love him just the same." – it's beautifully written but I don't know about this
● Remus confessing to Lily that he's a werewolf
YEAR 6
● Sirius calling Remus brave for kissing him on his birthday
● "Have you already forgotten you're a prefect!?" - "Oh shit, yeah - I mean bugger - I mean… whoops." – James Potter, I would die for you
● Christopher "hinting" that he's gay by bombarding Remus with gay authors is iconic af
● "You're not a dark creature," James said. "You're our Moony." – *SOBS*
● Lily sneaking down to watch James at Quidditch practice – Jily is my past, present and future
● "I've still never seen anything in a crystal ball." Peter sighed deeply. - "Tell her you see a grim," Sirius said, cheerfully, "That’s what I'm doing." - "Why a grim?" - "I just have a feeling she might actually see one, tomorrow afternoon, at about two o'clock." Sirius smirked. James and Peter began to laugh, much to the girls' confusion. – CAN YOU HEAR ME CACKLING?
YEAR 7
● the gang's camping trip to Cornwall is everything I ever wanted from life
● Remus coming out as gay to his friends during the trip = so fucking brave of him
● Lily finally confessing her feelings to James, and them finally becoming a couple – I AM SO HAPPY FOR THEM
● "His name's Grant." - "Well, I hate him." – jealous Sirius is Sirius at his peak
● "when he put her down she looked so happy in his arms." – MY JILY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT
● "James doesn't love me anymore, his heart has been claimed by another." – I love Sirius more than life itself
● "What are you? Christian Outreach?" – MKB is actually funny; but for real, the Grant episode broke my heart a little bit, I know he's a MKB original but he feels just as real as the rest of them
● "Like magnets, you and me, eh? Always snap right back together." – Grant, I would die for you!
● "You're a really good liar." Sirius said to Remus. – BESTIES I HATE (and love ofc) the set up for the growing distrust between the Marauders, I love all these subtle hints that MKB sprinkles in, I am NOT ready for the WAR chapters GOODBYE
● "You'd hate being in a study group." - "Well I'll never know unless I try, will I? And you're always saying it's such an important year." - "Mm, I've been saying that for the past three years, actually…" - "And it's finally sunk in!" – THE HUMOR IS UNMATCHED; also I will say it again: Jealous Sirius is Sirius at his peak! I love how he is so anti Christopher lmao, the poor bloke
● "You and James have boundary issues." – BAHAHAHA I mean Remus is not wrong, NEVER ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER BESTIES I AM SOBBING AGAIN
● "As if I would be jealous of him." - "Not of James," Mary rolled her eyes, "You're jealous of Lily. She's taken your best friend away and now you're feeling neglected, right?" – in this house we stan Mary Macdonald /// "You agree with me, don't you, Remus?" - Remus shrugged. He just wanted to eat his breakfast in peace. Mary tutted at him, too. "Boys." She said, exasperated, "Emotional cripples, the lot of you."
● Sirius vowing to come out to James over Christmas <3
● the attack in Diagon Alley and Sirius going absolutely ballistic over the thought that James might've been hurt <3
● "Tell me a secret. A nice one." "I'm mental about you, too." - THIS IS PEAK LIVING
● Sirius figuring out that Marlene and Yaz are together (before Remus realises it): "Can't believe you hadn't figured it out already!" - "Well." Remus huffed. They were nearly at the top, now. "I'm pretty impressed that you did. Seeing as you apparently had no idea about me, after we'd been shagging for a year." – LMAO BYE
● Remus telling Lily that he's with Sirius, her reply: "Listen to me! It's going to be hard . And it's happening faster than I thought it would. It's going to be scary, all the time, for a long time. But if we can keep being happy together, and making each other happy… then good. Brilliant. If it's Sirius for you, and you for him, then brilliant." I LOVE LILY MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF

● also I forgot to mention the whole ordeal with Lockhart (such a clever way to incorporate him in the story, starting a thing with Christopher but then confounding him (SUPER FUCKED UP) so that Chris wouldn't spill it :(

● "Sirius grinned - then, catching the murderous glint in James's eye, began to run at full pelt back to the castle, James chasing after him." – WHAT A WAY TO END THEIR HOGWARTS JOURNEY, I am honestly so emotional, everything will turn to shit after this, but what a beautiful symbolic ending; Sirius chasing after James, both of them laughing, both of them breathing, both of them happy – WE WERE ALL SO HAPPY THAT DAY, IT'S ACTUALLY HARD TO EVEN IMAGINE HOW TERRIBLE THINGS WOULD SOON BECOME
● Remus finding peace with the Marauder's Map being confiscated by Filch, seeing it as his legacy, the next students who'd be able to break into Filch's office and steal the map would be worthy inheritors (FRED AND GEORGE, BITCHES I AM SOBBING AGAIN)

wow. it’s been a long while since I originally read this. a few months actually. i read this during a time in which i wasn’t really doing well mentally. i would read this story every day in my classes, and it honestly contributed to some of the happy moments in my days. remus lupin became a staple hyperfixation during a period of time. the quality writing was also much appreciated. overall, i would definitely recommend this story to anyone who has found themself missing the harry potter books, has wanted to read more about the marauders, or even to someone who has not read harry potter and is questioning something about themselves...or is interested in magic stories...or just likes fanfiction. this volume was more mature and serious than the other, and is probably more enjoyable to those who liked books 5, 6, and 7 better than the others.

this was amazing.
first of all, the plot. what a rollercoaster, huh???
second of all, the writing. one thing i really love about long fanfictions (or book series for that matter) is seeing how an author starts to write better and better. and in this case i can truly say that this is some of the most beautiful writing i've ever read.
third of all, WOLFSTAR and JILY i mean- y'all know what i mean.
can't wait to tear my heart out with the third book.

If you are a Harry Potter fan and you haven’t read this book, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? It’s such an amazing fanfic!! It’s written perfectly like it’s part of the original series. The characters are so incredibly created and the plot line is AMAZING!! I am so in love with it I can’t even explain it! (My friends got so bored of me constantly talking about this book BUT I CAN’T STOP)

I just love the characters with my whole heart. I love Lupin and how much information we get on him in this book. Sirius had my heart from the beginning - I can’t✋🏻 James is my golden boy and I’m so glad we get a lot more of Lily in this book!! I love Marlene and Mary, because they add some spice to the group and they are simply adorable.
I can’t stop using the word “love” so I’ll change it up a bit - I ADORE that there are also some really important side characters like Neville’s parents or The Weasleys showing up!! I almost cried when they made their appearance.

I am not ready for the last book. I know how devastated I will be and I am not ready. I don’t think that there will be any other book that will break me as much as the last one of All the Young Dudes. I am not ready.
