A young architect sets out to alter the way people interact with his buildings in a world where people store their memories in the living tissues of monstrous pets. All of this is told by a narrator who obsessively revisits his past in the hope of understanding his current mental state.
I have just finished the book and I have to say that I am speechless. Moscaliuc has such a way with words, and I can feel all the thought that goes into each one that he chose, and how successful he is in finding which go together to create a sentence that hits the reader right there, dead and center. I have underlined numerous sentences that spoke to me. I love the imagery he creates, the way he likens one thing to another in unusual ways. He demonstrates the same nail-hitting that I find only in Ian McEwan and Edmund White. So much talent there!
I'm sure there are so many bits that are way over my head (I am no philosopher), but what I grasped was truly fulfilling. As soon as I finished, I immediately felt compelled to go back and reread the first 30 pages and picked up details which I had missed the first time around (the red hair of the protagonist was a really good clue for an easily distracted reader like me).
The scene with the drinks in chapter 54 is my absolute favorite! Just beautiful! It should be printed and framed because it is an achievement!
