5 stars Taut romantic thriller5 stars She was endearing and I rooted for her to get her manOperative Anika Washington is in deep trouble.
During her first kill mission, she choked. Now she must salvage her reputation and convince the counterterrorism agency that promoted her she has what it takes to succeed. But is that what Anika wants? The demand for blind obedience, kill orders, and the death of a fellow recruit all test Anika’s determination to do what’s demanded of her. It doesn’t help that Gianni Brambilla, the senior operative who claims he wants more than just a professional relationship with her, has grown distant and secretive.
As Anika is drawn deeper into agency life, she questions whether U.N.I.T. is a force for good, or not. Her breaking point comes when she learns the truth about her recruitment. She starts to believe the only way she can survive is to bury her humanity and become dead inside.
A Federal orphan is selected for an assassination called the U.N.I.T. She trained to a highest level to be successful. Anika develops as her leader, Giovanna. The writing creates great images of the action and missions. Anika has troubles unless she has personal reasons for killing. Anika has several missions with Giovanna and finds them in a love relationship. Despite exciting and suspense action, the passion has problems in missions and romance. The details of the training and missions are very details and understand. Yet by the end very little is resolved. I would have liked a little more of the story.
Dead Inside (second in trilogy) is captivating, fast paced & continues the story of Anika Washington whose life begins tragically in an orphanage but quickly escalates into an intriguing spy working for The U.N.I.T. The book guides you through her relationships within The U.N.I.T., the undercover assignments she must conquer & a passionate lover who must keep their relationship secret so not to expose his status within the organization. The character development is brilliant, the story stimulating, and is a real page turner.... Now, onto the 3rd book. Can't wait!!!!
Again we team up with Anika and Gianni. In this book, we see Anika start to question the objectives of the UNIT. Are innocent people worth the sacrifice? Gianni is like a ghost coming and going without a trace or word. Anika wonders if she deserves better. Maybe she would be better off without Gianni. Does she try to leave the UNIT? Will her relationship with Gianni fizzle out? You’ll have to read and find out. I can’t wait to read book 3 to see how this series finishes up.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Taut romantic thriller! Spy school gets an A for Anika!
This tale of a beautiful, complicated young woman with lethal skills has Alias, Quantico and La Femme Nikita vibes...but I enjoy it because of the tight writing and clever gadgets, spy school scenarios and emotional predicaments the heroine Anika confronts. This time around it is Anika who holds the power of life and death in her hands, if she chooses to use it. Even more importantly, she begins to choose how she wants to live. The romance with Gianni is at first elusive, then begins to clarify into something worth living, and maybe killing (bad guys) for. New readers are in for a delight as this title takes its place in a completed trilogy! Happy reading!
