Compelling Eddie Beesley’s Lucky Enough is the compelling story of a man whose life was shaped by the Vietnam War. The book is written in a conversational, easy-to-read style. The narrative switches back and forth between Eddie’s first visit to the Vietnam Wall in Washington, DC, and his experiences in the Marine Corps – specifically his time in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Eddie triggered a Bouncing Betty mine. He sustained injuries that caused him to become a double amputee. However, Eddie Beesley turned tragedy into triumph. He refused to let his injuries destroy his life. Eddie’s life story is inspirational. You will be blessed by reading it.
I read this book long before I knew Goodreads existed.
This book chronicles life before and after service of one US Marine from the Vietnam era.
I realize it has been over 11 years since I first read this book but some sections are recalled - as if they were from a movie - without re-reading it. The feelings shared are there in my memory as if I lived them myself. The main one that I take away from the book is LOVE.
Warning: There is Violence and possibly some adult language.
Marine Corporal Beesley is from my hometown, by way of Nuyaka. If you know, you know! He was kind enough to provide me an autographed copy of his book at our Beggs School Alumni Banquet this past June 2025. This is a very moving story of his life, hopes and dreams and very tough battles. I'm grateful that he can share his story with civilians such as myself, and most importantly with others who have served, perhaps experienced similar traumas. Thank you Sir!
Very easy book to read. It starts with at trip to the Vietnam Wall where Eddie is accompanied by his wife Connie and grandson Dillon. During the journey to The Wall Ed reflects back on his life and when he joined the Marines. Then on to his life as a Marine and beyond. The blending of the 2 stories is done very well and is easy to follow and you never fell that you are lost.
I have had the pleasure to meet Eddie Beesley and Connie not long ago. He is an inspiration to all of us.
The book is easy reading and can easily be read in an evening or two.
