Thank you for visiting my author page. I am an Irish author living on the banks of the Grand Canal in Co. Kildare with my husband and our four young children. My books have been described as emotional tearjerkers and always have a big dilemma at their heart. I love to explore the different sides of human behaviour and why we do what we do. My 5th book THE LAST DAYS OF US will be published by Boldwood in June 2021. This is a Women's Fiction book that covers a lot of hard hitting topics. Sarah and JP spend years going through IVF taking to get pregnant before getting pregnant with their son, Harry who is 9 years old in this book. After having Harry they got bless with Robyn without trying, and Robyn is 4 years old in this book. JP comes home late on Christmas to tell Sarah he is done being a family, and he moves out. Right after that they right out Robyn is diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, and they are told she will die within a year. This is a book of Sarah pulling aside JP messing up their family to put her daughter first, and the last a little bit of time they have with Robyn. This is a book that will touch your heart and make you feel so much. This is a well written book with great characters. It is everything I look for in a Hard Hitting Women's Fiction book. Sarah is a strong woman that does not let anything take her down, and her character shows how much women carry on a daily bases. I loved it so much. I also love that we get a little for Harry's point of view because it is always great to think things through a kids eye. Most of the book comes for Sarah's point of view. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author (Caroline Finnerty) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Heartbreaking, I cried through most of the book. The 4 stars are for the great writing, the h and Harry and Robyn. I couldn't give it 5 stars because the h was a doormat to the H and just accepted everything he did to her without ever getting mad and standing up for herself. The zero was a selfish, horrible bastard that in my opinion did nothing to redeem himself. I would give him negative 1000 stars! Who doesn't come home on Christmas eve when you have 2 young children and then leaves them on Christmas?? And moves directly in with the ow. They have one short conversation when their daughter is dying and suddenly everything is forgiven including the infidelity and the legal battle!! F@#$ that. He didn't deserve to spend time with them as a family while she was dying. He LEFT them. Sarah should have divorced his cheating ass, taken Harry and created a new and better life for them.

I picked this book because it was shelved on GR as a cheating book. This was a very sad and depressing story of a family who loses a child. The infidelity is forgotten and life goes on. I don’t recommend.
fI've since found out the publishing date for this book is my birthday, June 17th! 🎁
I'm not crying, you're crying!
OMG what an absolute belter of an emotional read was this. This was truly a tug at the heartstrings read, I truly couldn't imagine how I'd feel going through something like this. I felt so, so sorry for Sarah, her family were her everything & she had no control over what was happening to it.
Sarah, husband JP & their two young children Harry & Robyn are a loving, happy family it seems...until Christmas day & JP tells her he's leaving her! Struggling to deal with life as a single Mother, Sarah notices changes in her young daughter, after a visit to the hospital, her whole world comes crashing down around her again, when she's told her daughter has an inoperable brain tumour 😪
Many thanks to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review.

An emotional, heartfelt read that you will require a box or two of tissues at your side.
I loved this family journey as they care for four year old Robyn, and try to do their very best to cope and savor memories during Robyn's final days on earth. It is passionate, and well-detailed. I felt as though I was there throughout each day as the world changed quickly for the entire family. I could feel their anguish, anger, heartbreak, and love. The title of this book is perfect as we witness "The Last Days of Us" upon turning each page! You will definitely fall in love with this family as I did.
I cannot believe this is my first read by this author… what was I thinking lol
The Last Days of Us is a well written women’s fiction that tore my heart apart.
Sarah is a strong courageous character that I really liked. She felt that her world fell apart when her husband left her and their two children. When their youngest child Robyn is diagnosed with a brain tumour she needs to do what is best for her daughter.
If your looking for a well written story with plenty of feels then I highly recommend this story. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
The main character is treated like a doormat by her husband throughout the book. Most of the book is her pining after her philandering husband. The illness of the child was pretty predictable. It was all predictable come to think of it.
Sad story that dragged on a bit. Dad leaves mom for younger woman. Child is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Mom drinks a lot of wine when sad. Dad is a jerk. Child dies. Mom and dad get back together.
Absolutely heartbreaking! I read more than half this book with tears streaming down my face. The chapters from Harry’s POV were gut wrenching and even though I knew what the story was about I was still broken by the ending. Have to say I didn’t forgive JP, either for his infidelity or the way he treated Sarah. She deserved so much better.
WOW! The Last Days of Us is a must read. This story is very well written and the character build up is on point. The emotional, heartfelt, tragic story line will touch you in the most anguishing of ways. I am not an emotional reader but this story..................this story had me sobbing so much I had to stop reading multiple times for awhile just to be able to pick it back up to finish the book. Amazing read!
Oh my goodness I just love books like this I couldn't put it down, so beautifully written on this sensitive topic.
This is a new author for me but I will definitely read more from her in the future and all the characters were so well developed I felt as though I knew them all.
I cannot speak highly enough about this book, a very deserved 5 star read Caroline and thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read this brilliant book.
Honestly I can't even begin to process how this book has made me feel. I'm struggling with this a little due to the nature of the book.
The book deals with the 4 year old daughter being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and follows the family through their journey.
This is an immensely upsetting book and it brings all the feels. As someone who has dealt with a child having cancer at a very young age, this just shows you how utterly lucky we were as a family that they came out of it fit and healthy.
Hug your loved ones a little harder when you go to bed at night and make sure you tell them you love them always.
I can't say I enjoyed the book because that just sounds wrong! Once it got into it I struggled to put it down and have some tissues at the ready. Some parts of the writing did feel a little repeated so I skimmed over that but it didn't ruin anything for me.
Get ready with a box of tissues! If you are anything like me, you might even need to read this when you’re all alone and no one will bother you. At first I didn’t want to read this book because I knew it would tear my heart into itty bitty pieces. But I chose to read it anyway and I am forever thankful for it!
The story begins with JP leaving his wife, Sarah, and children the day after Christmas. He no longer wants to be part of this beautiful family and says he fell out of love with Sarah. Everything seems strained and it leaves Sarah explaining the best she can to the children that their father moved out.
Not long after, Sarah notices some odd tendencies of their youngest, Robyn. She’s an adorable little 4 year old, who’s usually active and seems to take on the world. Until her face droops a bit on one side, then she loses her balance a bit, and she begins limping. Sarah takes little Robyn to see a doctor, who tells her and JP that their little girl has an inoperable cancer and it’s fatal.
Any time a child must go through such a rare disease like Robyn’s diagnosis of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), it’s heart-breaking! Oh, the thoughts and emotions that must go through the heads of the parents! I know it’s hard for family and friends as well, but that’s nothing compared to your own child going through it! This book does well in sharing the heart of Sarah and JP and how they fight for what they each believed to be the best for their child. Even as parents, they disagreed on what they think is best! How do you really decide on what’s best for your child when you really don’t know if it’ll work or not?
I have a good friend who’s child was diagnosed with a rare disease and he’s slowly lost his motor skills like speaking and walking. He’s even lost his ability to chew and swallow. As a friend, I try to give my strength, but that’s hardly much help for the actual parents! Children with rare diseases are more and more common, or maybe we’re just more aware of them, as technology progresses. We’re extremely saddened that there isn’t a cure for everything by now, but unfortunately the best we can sometimes do is make sure these children are simply comfortable and not in pain.
Special thanks to Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for access to The Last Days of Us by Caroline Finnerty. I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras because of how my emotions were torn into a million pieces. Oh my heart! No one ever thinks something like a rare disease would ever take away their precious child that they love and adore, but sometimes it happens and I grieve with you.
First, I want to thank Caroline Finnerty, Boldwood Books, and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.
OHH BOY!!!! Warning: stock up on tissue before you read this book! Caroline Finnerty you touched me deeply in The Last Days of Us that I was overcome with emotions and started to ugly cry! This is a very emotion powered driven book.
Caroline would like to dedicate this book to Mary for always making her feel so welcome in her family and for being a truly lovely grandmother too.
Straight away the cover captured my heart with the beautiful little girl on the cover. It was that image and the title that hooked me into reading this book.
I had a huge smile on my face as the book started off and ended with a Christmas Theme!!
Caroline did a fabulous job educating her readers on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG for short). Not only did she go to great lengths to describe this horrid disease to us but show us how it can affect your family members.
The Last Says of Us was a truly heartbreaking story of loss, betrayal, forgiveness and the power of a mother’s love. The story is mainly narrated through the eyes of Sarah but it also features her son Harry’s perspective as well which I really enjoyed because it showed what he was going through.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was how hard Sarah fought for Robyn and never backed down even when she was treated awfully by those who should have had her back. She was made into a villain and still did what was best for her daughter.
This was a fantastic book and I recommend having tissues nearby because you’re definitely going to need them.
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
I really liked the story .Having lost My 7 yr.old died to cancer I felt a real connection. I am glad The parents were able to reconnet. When My Grandma died in our Home a Robin appeared as Did a robin appear the day My husband of 42 yrs psssed also of cancer.I could relate because I pureed His food and I slept with Him.The story was well written.
Touching and poignant, this book pulled me in from the very first pages and took me on an emotional ride. The author wrote sensitively about a variety of difficult issues, and I felt like I was with the family every step of the way. A gripping and absorbing read.
The Last Days of Us is a heart wrenching book. At the beginning of the book, JP, the father, decides to leave his family for another woman. As Sarah, the mother, tries to recover she notices her daughter, Robyn, is not acting right. When Robyn goes in for tests and receives a horrible diagnosis her family is tested like never before.
The story is told by Sarah with small notes from her son, Harry. I don’t want to give away everything but Sarah has a hard road in front of her. I don’t know what I would do in her situation. Sarah displays so much strength. I highly recommend this book but be prepared for it to be emotional.
Follow the lives of Sarah, JP and there children Harry and Robyn. Form the first pages after Harry dropped a bombshell on Sarah's perfect life and family then Robyn, their 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. I read this book in one day and although it was unbearably sad, it also shows the strength of family and the hope that comes after the worse news a family can receive. It is excellently written. Full of hope, sadness and loyalty. Thanks to#NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review
Wow, where to start? This book has everything, an unexpected breakup, emotional turmoil and a devastating illness that will change family life forever.
In ‘The Last Days of Us’, author Caroline Finnerty has created a story that tugs at every conceivable emotion and leaves the reader thinking about the characters long after the final page has been turned.
Mainly told through mum Sarah’s eyes, the story takes you on a journey as she tries to hold things together after being dealt the most unimaginable news about four year old daughter Robyn, who is diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
Alongside this, the individual short chapters told from elder sibling Harry’s perspective are touching and heartbreaking in equal measure.
The novel also successfully raises awareness of DIPG; I’m sure I’m not the only reader to research more about it both during and after reading.
Also fascinating was the struggle Robyn’s father had coming to terms with his daughter’s diagnosis and certainly makes you pause to reflect what you would do in a similar situation.
This is by no means an easy read, but it is brilliantly written and heartfelt. Highly recommended.
With thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and @rararesources for the opportunity to participate in the tour.
This is a heartbreaking story and I knew it was going to be difficult to read. We have kids in our area that has died from brain cancer but there is still so much mystery around it. By reading this book, I have a better understanding of the disease, what they go through, and how to be there for someone going through this. I shed a lot of tears reading this story, but you could feel the strength and the courage that, Sarah, had to find within herself. One part of the book, the father ask the doctor, if it has been around a long time so why hasn't there been any advancement. That is why I hope people read this book, to gain understanding, some reading the book may some day have to face their child having brain cancer, but it also brings into the light a subject that needs to be discussed, and hopefully get more researchers interested in finding answers, finding cures, and even making it preventable. I requested a copy from Boldwood Books through NetGalley, because as difficult as I knew it would be to read, I felt I had to read it. It was one of the saddest books that I have read, but it also was one that touched me so deeply.
One of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever read!
When I started the story I could not remember the blurb, so right from the start I knew something bad was going to happen, I could sense it but I did not know what.
This a very emotional read about Robyn, a little 4 year old girl that gets diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The story’s main focus is on the mother and how she deals with everything, but in between some of the chapters there are short diary entries written by Robyn’s 9 year old brother Harry. These are heart wrenching to read!
As a parent with a child slightly younger than Robyn, I felt so much of her pain that I literally read several parts of this book in tears and held my own children just little tighter cherishing all the small memories we are making every day.
I would like to thank the author for this moving story bringing awareness for DIPG and for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I would also like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.
