Rate this book
This book actually giggles …and so will children, in pure delight.

When Mommy Elephant finally gets baby rocked to sleep, she asks Little Elephant to be as quiet as he can. But that’s not easy for this noisy, enthusiastic boy, who makes a big din even when doing the smallest thing. Soon, the inevitable happens: HE WAKES THE BABY!

But there’s a big surprise to come: As kids turn the final page, they’ll hear baby laugh joyfully… and see a fabulous 3-D pop-up scene, too!

I read this aloud to pre-K students. Great illustrations. Helps teach children to be aware of how their actions can affect others.

It's hard being an young elephant and be quiet. That's what Little Elephant finds out when his mother gets their new baby to sleep and he's told to be quiet so ,the baby doesn't wake up. With lots of love, Little Elephant runs off to have fun yet everything he likes to do, is noisy. Being in the company of the other jungle animals, they keep an eye on him and remind him throughout the day, to keep quiet as he tries to have a good day.

It's so hard Little Elephant realizes and it really gets him down. I was sad watching Little Elephant down in the dumps as he realizes that all of his fun things are noisy. Lying down in the flowering jungle, "he'd never had so many tellings off in one day!" he really looked like he needed a hug. The ending is okay. I would have loved to see his mother throw her trunk over Little Elephant but we did see some love between the siblings.

It's hard being quiet when there's a new baby in the house and this book addresses that but I wanted to see some loving between the mother and Little Elephant. It would have made the book sweet and provided some comfort, I felt that Little Elephant was all alone. The illustrations are beautiful in the book. I love how the animals look and their facial expressions. 3.5 stars

Beautifully illustrated, 'Shh! Don't Wake the Baby' is about teaching siblings to be quite when a newborn arrives in the family. The junior elephant gets taught to be quiet by various animals as he just tries to eat and play. There is a surprise ending, but no pop-up in the paperback edition that I have - which is present in the hardcover version.

The illustrations are wonderful and the animals portrayed are full of life and expression. I think the text is a little wordy for a children's book which seems to be aimed at a toddler. But all the same, I think this will be a great book to read to young children, especially if a newborn has entered their world.

It is a cute story about an elephant who struggles to be quiet. The last page is a pop up with sound effects. Though I don't really like sound effects due to the annoyance factor it is a cute story for what it is. Ages 4+
