Dragon Guard Niklas has been looking for love in all the wrong places. While he's happy that his twin brother has found his mate, he wished that he too, could find the other half of his soul.
Little does he know, he's about to meet his mate in the most unexpected place.
Finding a True Mate was something Niklas had always desired but never expected, until he meets his female match in the most unlikeliest of places, she’s a guard, a dragon and she’s perfect in every way.
Annika is determined to tend only to her duty to her Prince, not the cheeky, and downright dangerous alluring looking guard who is always around.
Perfectly matched these two are great together and their chemistry sets the pages smouldering. Great new book for this series, one that’s better read in order.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
A great addition to the series. Definitely kept me guessing at some points and had a great love story. The kiddos are a bonus. Think it is one you will enjoy. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
I've been looking forward to Niklas story. He meets his mate in the most unlikeliest place. These characters are so likeable and relatable. And the you have the other little side characters. Sooo adorable. Some mysteries are solved. Some we are still anxiously awaiting to be resolved.
My take on this entire series is "not really bad but not good either." Unfortunately, the majority of the books is just vague melodramatic fluffle surrounding little bits of love story; a lot of running around and hints of action without much action on page. Annika and Niklas make a decent couple. She doesn't quite mesh into the larger scheme of the series in some ways. She is almost childishly naive in some ways despite being older and having more outside contact than Alyx who is wildly on the opposite end of the spectrum personality wise. Annika is inappropriately shoehorned into the guard training, at distinct odds with their pool procedures and policies. Personality wise, I love her character, but her place in the storyline is forced. Niklas on the other hand bugs me a bit as a character but somehow fits into the story every time he pops up. His derision towards Alyx endears him to me a lot. Their relationship arc makes the bond process more explicable. This book starts my questions as to the point of Prince Sasha in the greater picture of the knights cult storyline. He somehow is human despite the dragon blood being on his mother's side. In earlier books shifter nature breeds true (see Poppy's son) and later books hint at the matriarchal line being the driving factor (see Willa and Thoralf's book, although even that story muddies the water with Thoralf's dragon). The knights cult would have no incentive for chasing a human at all, let alone for 60 years. Spoiler on top of spoiler: there is never any good answer given in my opinion. He is nothing to any shifter beyond a distant relative and descendant. Some of these fiddly details being to bug me at this point in the series since we are getting so much info without any clarity.

Great series. I enjoy reading about the characters on this Isle especially in this latest story. I “hurt” for Annika’s loss of her “father of the heart” and the betrayal that caused it. She is a wonderful main female character who is warm, smart, caring and LOYAL. She took over her father’s duty to protect the “Lost Prince” and his family after his death. I enjoyed her adopted young orphans varied personalities and animals. Nicolas was perfect for Annika as he had plenty of love to give. I always enjoy catching up with previous characters and hope in the next book we will see more of this newly formed family. Will Nicolas survive little Maya? Will we see more of Annika’s newly found Alpha half brother? What trouble awaits the twenty four year old daughter Alyx and her brother? Will any of them return to the hidden island they were hidden on for 50+ years now that the bad guys know where it is? Will the Dragon Guard be able to find the wand?
As much as this story is about a child prince being rescued during a rebellion and taken to a shielded island by only a nineteen year Dragon Guard to care for him, it is also the story of the Dragon Guard’s fierce loyalty, dedication and belief in his duties until the day he died 50+ years later still performing his duties unbeknownst he’d been betrayed very early on. Looking forward to next adventure in this series
Niklas has been searching for love his whole life. At least since his mother abandoned them; he, his twin brother Gideon and their father. He never found it in the arms of the many women he dated, but he found it in a most unexpected place. Annika is an air dragon who was found abandoned by a dragon guard of the Northern Isles. He raised her as “the daughter of his heart.” (I seriously love that phrase.) Since the death of her adopted father, Torstein, she has been guarding the deposed prince of Zaratena. Now that he has been found, they all return to the Northern Isles, where Niklas intends to pursue his mate.
I loved Niklas in the first two books, he’s such a funny character, but he used humor, and women, to mask his pain. I love PNR books where the FMC is also a shifter. While Annika didn’t dissolve into a fit of hysterics when she found out that they were fated mates, she was confused. Mates is one thing she never learned about, so Niklas has to tell her not only are they mates, but what it means. It really was sweet how open she was to him and how accepting he was of her and her 5 adopted children.
If you want a sweet, romantic story, this is the book for you. There is also a bit of palace intrigue that contributes to the overarching storyline. Throw in a jealous mean girl and I was a happy camper. You will be too. Read the books in order so you can really appreciate the characters. No cliff hanger.
One of my favorite parts of reading this author's books is the way she interconnects her series, leaving a few minor threads open in each book (not related to the main romance, so each book is a standalone) that are then picked up and woven into a new story later on. In this book, we have Cam's grandmother finally finding her missing family after sixty years, and we get the full history of how that works into the politics and drama of the Northern Isles.
Annika is an orphan, raised in near-seclusion by her adoptive father and the royal family he's charged with protecting. When Niklas and Gideon find them, more questions are raised than are answered, though eventually all is revealed and explained fully.
I adored Annika from the start. Her patchwork family was perfect for Niklas, and I absolutely swooned at his first words to her! I loved the emotional depths the author plumbed in order to get to the root of the trauma Niklas endured as a child and how it was still affecting him. This romance is the perfect blend of sizzling hot attraction, shifter intrigue, and heartwarming family values. I couldn't love it more.
Annika and Niklas get a splendid HEA, after a proposal that was nothing short of sublime. Every time I visit with this author's characters, it feels like coming home and I can't wait to get back there again and again. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Niklas’s mission – to find the missing prince. What he didn’t expect was to find his mate along the way. Abandoned as a baby, Annika has spent her life protecting the prince and becoming a mother to other rescued children. When Niklas lands in her home, their inner dragons scream mine. Whilst Niklas understands what this means, Annika doesn’t. Now the sanctuary has been discovered, their location is no longer secret, it’s time for the missing prince to return to the real world. Niklas has no intention on leaving his mate or her kids behind. Winning over Annika and her children will not be easy. Bringing her to his world, there is still the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the missing prince and her true parentage to be solved. With all these things combined will they prevent Niklas and Annika from completing their mating bond? To mysteries, secrets, families and new beginnings in this latest installment from the Dragon Guard. It’s entertaining, gripping and one I couldn’t put down.
This is the 3rd book of the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles. This time it is the second twin Niklas that will be having his HEA.
Unlike his brother, he is the opposite and at the start of the series, he was the jovial person that gave everyone a push when he knew that they found their true mates.
Although his path to his true mate is anything but smooth. With all his advice to his fellow Dragon Guard, it seems that he himself needs a little help.
Annika is a wild card that no one was expecting. Even at the end of the book, I was not expecting that person.
All in all, it was not something that I truly enjoyed, but it was nice that the other twin got the ending he deserves.
Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles series...I am still waiting for a boom that will mark this series with Alicia Montgomery other series. I am ever hopeful that the next book will either be of Stein, or..... Yes, that one. Then again I can only hope.
The men of the Dragon Guard are just as impressive as any other shifter in this 'series'. Maybe more so. Ms. Montgomery might have outdone herself with Niklas. I know that he has been portrayed as a 'playboy', but he just wants to be loved and love back. He recognizes Annika as his mate immediately. However, Annika knows nothing of Dragon Fated Mates. She does not understand the feelings she is having. So, she fights them. All the while, Niklas is putting his whole heart out there. This story was amazing! I read it in one night and lost sleep. It was soo worth it. There is suspense and danger. But there is also romance and growth among the characters. Closure for some and questions for others. I can't wait for more. Once again, this author rocked! I received an early copy and this is my honest opinion.
Lovely emotional story. Niklas, the other twin brother, finally gets his longed for mate but she has no idea about fated mates and little true knowledge of his world. Annika really is special. So generous of heart and wise, to know that Niklas was truly not ready to bond, due to his childhood abandonment issues. Interesting that we finally find the missing Royal and his family. But boy, what a spoilt princess, Alyx behaves like. Just so sad that one person’s blind ambition, jealousy and vanity caused six decades of family connection to be lost. But worse was the treasonous actions of this individual which caused the death of an honourable Dragon Guard. So terribly sad that Torsten never had the chance to meet his mate or have a life. Loved what happened with Jakob and the twist with Mathias was not one I saw coming. A small bit of other woman drama but Queen Sybil deals beautifully with that. This is my honest review of this book.
Dragon Guard Knight by Alicia Montgomery is an interesting, intriguing, entertaining and steamy shifter romance story of Niklas and Annika.Being a dragon night is hard when he went for a mission finding the lost prince Niklas didnt expected to find his true mate..Annika being adopted by a dragon guard when she was young, lost at sea is very thankful for his adoptive father ,who teach her all she needed to know being a guard and when her father killed by the enemy protecting the prince and his family Annika promise herself to continue his father job protecting the prince, she doesnt know the way outside the island so when the dragon knights arrive and one of them is her fated math. and doesnt know what shes going to do,shes like a fish without a water..
I have voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.
Another great addition to the series!! I've been looking forward to Niklas story. I know that Niklas character is portrayed as a "playboy" but I always felt liked there was something more like he just wanted to be loved and have that feeling reciprocated. Although his path to his true mate is anything but smooth. Let's just saying your in for a helluva ride. With the add it mystery, drama, and some unexpected surprises made for a interesting and entertaining read. Can't wait for the next book in the series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
Oh so good! This story is filled with adventure, romance and of course danger. One of the biggest mysteries of this series and the co-series is about to get some answers but it also means more questions. The Dragon Guard protect the royal families. Niklas is one of the guard. He is brave and handsome but he is also looking for love and has a past when it comes to women. But finding your fated mate isn’t always possible. I love watching these men find their one. It always brings such hilarious and embarrassing moments. The book and series are great and amazingly written. I can’t get enough of them.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Niklas and Annika are perfect for each other. Him, a guy who came around quite a lot and her, who never got to see much more than the place she grew up. Niklas and his brother along with his mate, Ginny, are out and about in Eastern Europe to search for the long lost prince. As you read along, there are many secrets to be shared, trust to be earned and a Love of two mates to be accepted. A very fascinating story, that fits very well in the shifter universe, as usuall. I really enjoyed reading this one.
This book is a paranormal dragon shifter fated mates story. Third book of the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles series. I love the mix of romance and mystery. Niklas is so patient and kind with Annika since Annika previous isolated and had no idea of mates or experience with men. Annika is also awesome for understanding Niklas needed some healing from his past.
I recommend this book and can’t wait until the next book of the series. I received an Arc and voluntarily leaving a review
Alicia Montgomery really shows her mastery of the PNR genre in this book! The story is surprisingly complex, and although the "who" of the villain is obvious, the "why" and "how" add intrigue. Niklas shows depths not apparent in the previous books, and Annika proves delightful and her background provides fodder for future developments in the form of Matthias. Niklas' and Annika's mating yields its own surprises, as well; now I'm hoping for Matthias and Magnus to have stories of their own!
Honestly I dreaded reading this segment of the series because she was such an awful part of a previous book in this series. This book has been in my library for months! Am so glad to finally read it. Ms Montgomery writing style totally redeemed the character. Am looking forward to next book in the series.
As always a thank you for authors sharing their imagination and talents with us. Also a special thank you to Amazon providing a virtual unlimited source of reading to all of us bookaholics! On to the next book!
This is book three of the series and it features Gideon’s twin brother Niklas. He is the outgoing and fun twin. I just adored that even though they were twins with different personalities, the love that the twins shared was always strong. This book picks up from book two, where Niklas, Gideon, and Ginny are searching for the lost Royal Dragon Guard. These three are good trackers because they do indeed find some good clues and dragons. There are discoveries plus a happy ending. Read On!
Third in series about the Dragon Guard. Nicklas is looking for his mate ,also on a mission to find the missing dragon guard. While checking out some information about the Guard on a unknown Island he meets Annaka and other inhabitants of the Island. When Nicklas meets Annaka something develops between them. They go back to the the Northern Isles and things continue to develop. A little mystery ,drama ,some surprises and romance. Enjoy this story and whole series. Voluntarily reviewed
Niklas watched his twin find his mate and he doubted he had a mate waiting for him. When he finds Annika while searching for the missing Dragon Guard he is more than a little surprised to find she comes with a few extras. This is a great addition to the series which keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. I love the way the story twists and turns and connects with other series by this author. I look forward to the next book.
A prankster brother. A lost dragon guard. A missing family. Unexpected sightings of a "flying creature with pearlescence shimmer" intrigues the royal family enough to investigate. Niklas was jealous when his brother found his life mate. But finding one for himself, who comes with an adopted family of her own, adds more to his heart than he realized. Will he truly believe that they are for him? Will the mystery of the danger finally be solved? Will the missing royal family finally come home?
I really enjoyed this story! It was a fun read that kept me entertained and engaged from beginning to end. The characters were great and I loved their back and forth. I loved the connection between the characters and the way that their relationship built throughout the story. I have really enjoyed this series so far and am looking forward to more in it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Niklas is happy that his twin found his true mate, but he's wondering if he will ever find his. When they are charged with looking for a lost Prince he does find her. But she knows nothing about mate's or men! She doesn't even know what kind of dragon she is! She was found in a row boat by the Dragon Guard. He raised her as his daughter. What's going to happen with the mate's? Another great story!
Another fantastic story. Alicia's books never disappoint.
A voyage of intrigue as well as discovery, personal, familial as well as historical. Good friends, family and chosen family - family of the heart . The Dragon Guards will have an interesting recruit, pity a certain little fur ball can't join when she grows up! Loved the ferret - true to life. Thank you Alicia for another great achievement.
Just another great book of the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles series. Niklas was always my most loved characters from the dragon guard and it was a pleasure reading about him and the children make the story richer. The book has all the right ingredients to be an fantastic read. The fight against the Knights just gives it that extra edge. I am looking forward for the next book to see where the talented Alicia Montgomery takes us next.
Dragon Guard Knight by Alicia Montgomery. Dragon Guard Niklas, his twin brother Gideon and Ginny, Gideons mate, are trying to find a Prince who has been .missing for 60 years. A tip leads them to a island in a lake, an invisible island. When they find the island they are met by a white Dragon. Niklas' Dragon immediately says mate. Annika, the white dragon, her Dragon immediately says mate but she doesn't know what a mate is.
This book tells the story of Niklas who is a Dragon Guard and how he meets his future fated mate and the already made for family she comes with. Annika does not know about fated mates, so she has no idea what the strange feeling is when she meets Niklas. Combine this with an uncooperative child, betrayal, lies and an ex-girlfriend and you have a very interesting story. I really enjoyed it.
Well worth the wait, I couldn't put it down. Two dragons with similar backgrounds one with a sheltered life training to protect the Prince and the other trying to fill the void of his mother leaving him and his twin when they were young couldn't be more perfectly matched as mates you will love this book too. Fantastic story
