Cavaleri Brothers #4

The Devil's Den

Rate this book
He was the boy held captive in the basement. I was the girl who knew.

But I never told a soul. I had innocent lives to protect. And this was the only way.

He was my friend first. My lover second. We wanted to be free, to make a life together. But that was a dream we knew would never come true.

Prisoners of my ruthless father, we could not escape the horror we were forced to endure-until I drew a weapon on the only boy who ever loved me.

And as they drag me away, screaming his name, I hope he's still breathing.

Because our story, it's not over yet.

“You’re the moon and the stars, the sun when it rises, the warmth when it sets,”

This is the fourth book in the series, it was tragic, dark and thrilling. Some huge secrets are unravelled after the last book's cliffhanger. Matteo & Aida's story was one hell of a rollercoaster ride. The connection they shared since their childhood was deep and I could feel the way they always needed each other around because since all these years, they were each other's only solace. Matteo & Aida were both very strong fighters. The things they went through just because they wanted to keep each other safe were so painful, the first chapter itself made me cry, seeing the situation they were stuck in. I can't reveal much about the plot but I was glad when Matteo & Aida finally got to live their wish. Matteo's love was Aida was so sweet, fierce and beautiful. Their story depicted that we can overcome anything, never lose hope and to always look forward to the future. I enjoyed the mystery, liked the plot and loved all the main characters of each book in the series. I'm looking forward to read the next novella to see where life takes them all.

You’re the moon and the stars, the sun when it rises, the warmth when it sets.

This book was much more than I expected. It was really good. There was action and so much blood. Matteo and Aida were tortured since childhood and I was so happy with the ending. It was actually a really good ending to this series. I’m wondering what the next book will entail since this one wrapped up so well.

“You’re perfect. Not just for me. For anyone.
And I’ll always love you, even when I’m not here to do it.”

I was UN-WELL...

If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I don't do play-by-plays of any book. But for once, I wish I can tell you every single syllable, of every single word, of every single paragraph of this one. I want you to know just how INCREDIBLE Matteo and Aida's story was. How from the very beginning, their souls just called out to each other.

Matteo arrived beaten emotionally and physically. Aida recognized those bruises because she had the same ones. They were each others anchors, confidants, best friends. They grew up together in ways that no child should ever endure. But in that darkness, there was sunshine.

The Devil's Den - kids

Year after year, they grew closer and closer together. And year after year, as they were getting older, feelings were changing as well. What started off as pinky promises and cute drawings, became secret kisses and dreaming of the future. Sadly, Matteo and Aida's lives would go from bad to worse. No one saw the horrid events that would lie ahead of them.

“I’ve loved you before I even knew what that word meant. And if it weren’t for you, I’d have died a thousand times over. You’re the only one keeping me here, and I’m not sorry about it. Because for you, I’d endure all the torture in the world. Because you’re worth it.”

This was a love story of so many emotions: heart wrenching, mind crushing, tear jerking emotions. A rollercoaster of extremely low dips, but also the highest of sky highs. The love that Matteo and Aida felt for one another, it's like their souls called to each other from a previous life. There was no one else in this Earth that fit just the way they did.

The Devil's Den - dreaming

“We may not be able to love each other the way others do, out in the world, but we can love each other here.
Our way. However long we have. I’ll love her always.
Until I can’t. Until my heart stops beating.”

I think I can count on one hand books that made me cry. Like REALLY cry. That kind of crying that makes you stop reading for a moment to gather yourself because the story is just TOO much.
I read a lot of dark romances so I skip over the trigger warnings because gore, violence and "dark stuff", don't bother me. But there are moments in a certain storyline where even I can't stop the heart palpitations. And THAT'S the kind of writing that Lilian Harris is gifted with. She writes these characters' journey that make you think about them even days after you've finished reading.
And this will most definitely be a book that I'll remember for a long time.

The Devil's Den - adults

“I’ve loved you then. I love you now. And I’ll love you in every space in between.”

This is the fourth book in the Cavaleri Brothers series and let me tell you it was FANTASTIC!
It was dark, twisted, and full of so many surprises.

Lilian definitely didn’t hold back in this book, so, please check TWs before reading this. It’s such a heartbreaking story and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.
Matteo and Aida’s story is one you never expected and one that will certainly leave you wanting so much more. They were both such strong characters, and even though they went to hell and back, their love kept them going.

Matteo’s childhood was truly hell, being locked up for years with no family definitely traumatized him. Aida’s family life was not easy either, luckily Matteo and Aida found love and comfort in each other. As I said this is definitely a very dark story that isn’t always the easiest to read. It’s definitely worth the read though. Lilian has done such a fantastic job with this series and truly describing their love, loss, heartbreak, and trauma. Each book in this series will shatter your heart, but it will also slowly put it back together.

This was a very heartbreaking story, but it was also a beautiful one about finding someone that will always be there for you through all the trauma and never give up on you. Gah, it was the type of book you just couldn’t put down! I finished it in just a matter of hours. Trust me when I say this is the type of series that will definitely keep you hooked.

I could seriously go on and on about this amazing book. I won’t though, because you should just go and read this series. NOW…

This is definitely a five star read for me!

Thank you Lilian Harris for providing me with an ARC!!

This will be a hard book to read for most, the author certainly didn't hold back, but boy is it worth it.
I never saw this book coming earlier in the series, it's the one you never knew you needed, but will stick with you the most. Going into it with the vaguest of ideas is probably best, as you'll never be able to conjure more than half of it, even after experiencing horror in previous books.
After the epic ending of The Devil's Secret I was eager to move forward, but trust the author's process as starting from the beginning is the only way to truly get a thin grasp of the harrowing and heartbreaking ordeal both these main characters went through.
The question is, when the bullet comes, will they be on the right side of it, or will the unthinkable happen?
I'm going to miss all these characters when we have to say goodbye, so I'm grateful we get one last hurrah.

4.5 ⭐️ Matteo & Aida’s story was by far the darkest and most heartbreaking of the entire series! As painful as it was to read, it was also incredibly beautiful see how much they loved each other through everything 🤍

Tropes
• Mafia
• Forced Proximity (both prisoners)
• Childhood Friends to Lovers
• First Love
• Trauma Bonding

❗️Please be sure to check the trigger warnings as this book touches on traumatic and sensitive topics❗️

After the big reveal in the previous book that Matteo was in fact alive, we got to see exactly what happened to him in the 15 years he was separated from his brothers. He meets Aida when he’s taken by her father Agnelo Bianchi and kept chained in his basement. She is a prisoner in her own right as he never allows her to leave the house. They form a friendship, with Aida bringing Matteo his meals everyday, and it quickly develops into an unbreakable bond. The Bianchis would threaten one of them to keep the other in line, there was so much violence, so many horrors and unspeakable acts they were both forced into but throughout it all, they knew they had each other 🤍

This book was pain on pain on pain! Both Matteo & Aida suffered terribly and reached the point where they questioned if this life was worth living. They sacrificed pieces of themselves for each other and the people they loved. They were just 2 of the most selfless, resilient and incredibly kind souls who deserved so much better than they got. Seeing snippets of their love shine throughout the tragedy made this story that much more beautiful!

Ms Greco & Robby were absolute angels. Seeing Matteo reunite with his brothers was everything! Aida getting to spend time with her family soothed a bit of my heart. I love these characters so much and can’t wait to see their happily ever afters in the epilogue novella 🥹

I absolutely loved this book. It’s my favorite in the series. I love the couple so much. When I read the ending to the last book, I was so excited to pick this one up. Their romance is so sweet and so incredible. I loved every second of this book and them being together. They’re a couple who truly do deserve their happy ending.

I love this world and the characters. Especially Enzo because this man always makes me laugh with whatever he says. I always look forward to his comments.

Aida is such a strong heroine. Unbelievably strong and caring. She deserves everything. Reading about the stuff she went through breaks my heart. She’s incredible. I loved the romance. Matteo is so soft and sweet. I’m so happy he got to see his brothers again. They belong together.

"The Cavaleri brothers," Enzo adds. "We're back, baby."
"What the hell does that even mean?" Dom grimaces.
"I don't fucking know." He shrugs. "But it sounded good."

I absolutely love this series and I will not stop talking about it. It’s my favorite mafia series out there. The family is so precious. I’m so happy to see everyone together. Everyone getting their happy endings. I absolutely can’t wait to read more by this author. She’s truly incredible and talented.

If you’re in a dark romance mood, definitely check this one out. It’s worth it.

Ahhh man.. if I thought that the previous story broke my heart.. this story shattered it.

This series is breaking me one book at a time. And I didn't sign up for this. Like fuck. When I started reading this series the books were steamy as hell with all these mafia mfuckers who had me on a chokehold. The last two books tho turned SO dark... I can't even describe it 😩

This book specifically? HOLYSHIT. Both characters went through hell. They were both tormented and abused through out the whole book.

We get to meet them when they're both 8 years old. Aida lives with a father he hates her and basically treats her like shit. One day though that scum of a father brings a young boy in their house. This young boy is almost dead because he was shot. They heal him and give him a room.. but not because they're anything good. On the contrary. These people are the worst bastards I've ever read. No. They "help" him because they have a use for him. They want to train him and make him a deathly machine for them.

For fucks sake. Matteo is only 8. 😩 And they already shot him and killed his family to begin with. The several next years will be the most difficult for him because he has to survive under their manipulation and abuse. And I don't know what's worse. Manipulation or abuse? Because in abuse the only one who gets hurt is you. But in manipulation you do things.. wrong things.. in order to not have someone else hurt. Someone else you really care about.

For Matteo this someone else is Aida. These two basically grew up together locked in a house with people that hated them both. They only had each other. In the beginning Matteo didn't want to talk to her because she is the daughter of his abuser.. but he realised soon enough that his abuser hates his own child. The extent of that hate will be proven years later when Aida will be sent to a club by her own father to "serve" several men. This club will be the place where Aida gets r*ped again and again 😔

This book is not for everyone. So please check the triggers before you decide to read this. I've read a lot of dark books and still I wasn't ready for this. This story is no joke yall 😩

This is the fourth and conclusion of this phenomenal series, which this talented author has done an incredible job in weaving. Matteo and Aida’s journey is an emotional roller coaster throughout, with a connection which developed in childhood leaving them with an unbreakable bond, as together they can overcome any obstacles in their path. This is a well written story which is dark, raw, gritty, intense, and tragic, with secrets, mystery, twists, family, hope, and love, which leads to a thrilling and addictive page turner.

can’t get enough!!

I literally can’t get enough of these books! I’m loving and devouring this series. So far this book is the darkest in the series this far. It’s such a great story, and to be honest I didn’t think I could hate someone more than I hated Faro, but Agnelo, took the place of most despised character. He was so ruthless in this book, but I loved how Aida and Matteo overcame all his ruthlessness. Their love is so sweet and innocent, and the reunion of the families broke me. I loved that everyone finally got to reunite. I absolutely loved this book.

Dark, brutal, and deeply emotional. Aida and Matteo go through hell together literally. This isn’t your average romance; it’s trauma, healing, and obsession all tangled up. If you want something soft, skip it. If you want something that hurts in the best way, read it. It fell a little short for me could have been 4 stars.

The Devils Den by @lilianharrisauthor
-mafia -friends to lovers -captives -virgins

This is the fourth book in the Cavaleri brother series. This is following Matteo & Aida .

The way these to suffered heart my heart . This was by far. The darkest book in this series . They truly suffered . Aida by the hands of her father and and Matteo by his kidnappers.the way Aida’s father used there love for one another against them and threatened to hurt the other if they didn’t follow his order was sickening. The sweet loving moments were everything in this story it made you have hope for them. Praying they got out of there shitty situation. Hard truths come out that make everything make sense . I love that Lilian starts there story from the beginning and not from where Enzo story ends . It helps you understand there situation so much more. I loved every second of reading this . I was actually reading this before I went into labor. Ha

This book is the darkest story in the series and it needed to be to explain everything clearly and thoroughly, which it did. It might be darker but there is an ongoing thread of hope that, as a reader I clung on to, this hope is very cleverly inserted into the story by the author.

The story behind Aida has intrigued me since the first book, then since finding out that Matteo was still alive—talk about a shock—I was itching to know everything! Oh my, what these two young people went through from such a young age too. The descriptions are detailed enough to paint a very clear picture but not too much to give you nightmares. It was great getting to know both of these terrific characters who had the unfortunate bad luck to end up under Agnelo’s roof. Aida was without doubt one repressed young girl but to see her growth, even under such dire circumstances, was heartwarming. Matteo’s innate goodness, even with everything he was forced to go through, couldn’t be extinguished. These two characters are two of my favourites because of their innocence and their support for each other and others.

Honestly, I felt so much rage at Agnelo that I wanted someone to do something to end his life so many times throughout the story, over and over… I wanted to hit him on the head with a heavy object! This story evokes such deep emotions that you can’t help but become totally involved in the story. I will be honest, there were times when I wasn’t just livid with characters but also absolutely heartbroken, tears pooling in my eyes as I felt the situation in the scene like an arrow shot into my heart. However, I was also filled with an incredible sense of hope; for Aida, for Matteo, for Robby and for all of the Cavaleri brothers and their girls. To balance that darkness, this story has some fun banter between the lead characters.

This fast-paced story grabbed me right from the beginning and I was completely absorbed by the story until the end. I have loved this series so much and can only recommend it to everyone.

I read this so slowly because I was trying to make it last until the last book comes out.
This one is absolutely heartbreaking. I cried so much.
But holy hell it was amazing.
I was worried about it being a lil too good to be true but it was perfect.
Still triggering content but I was a little more prepared for it this time.
This is in my top favorite series of all time.

After reading the last book in these series I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one and find out what happened to the little brother. It was unexpected with so much darkness and twist in this book that I couldn’t put it down.
Life in the basement cell was horrible and throughout the whole story I was waiting for the day when Matteo will finally find his freedom and seek the revenge.
This heartbreaking story had me on the edge and I cried like a baby with all the emotions pouring out . I would definitely highly recommend this book and the whole Cavaleri Brother’s series!!!

I'm in the minority... I wanted to love this yet 🥺

First and foremost I wanna ask, what the fuck is the purpose of this book? What's the goal of why this was written the way it was?

This is a fucking nightmare and depressing as fuck. Everyone is soulless and brutal. The only thing that I can say about this is the deeply profound emotional connection between Matteo and Aida. It'll start as innocent, turn into young love, then a full-blown love for one another. Amidst hellish chaos, love still finds a way.

I would also like to highlight the relationship of Aida to his "little brother" Robby and Ms. Greco it's damn beautiful yet tragic.

"The Devil's Den" is the fourth and final book in the "Cavaleri Brothers series". This is the story of Matteo and Aida. In order not to spoil, I will avoid giving certain details, but I’ll express everything that this book caused to me. Without a doubt I can say that for me, this was the most emotional book. I felt each of the emotions experienced by the main characters.

Matteo and Aida were soul mates from the beginning, but the road to their happiness was always full of obstacles. They met at the age of 8, under horrible circumstances that no child should experience. Even so, Aida was that optimistic, idealistic girl with an unattainable nobility of heart. She lit up Matteo's days with her innocence and sweetness, earning his trust and creating a very special friendship. Over time the feelings were strengthened and modified. The illusion of first love encouraged them to dream, to make plans and promises that they hoped would be fulfilled when they were both free. And that same fleeting happiness lessened the effects of Agnelo Bianchi's sadism. As the mistreatment and contempt on the part of that man increased, reaching the point of corrupting the purity of both. And here I can tell you that I suffered a lot with them because the injustices they experienced were too much. The contrast of their personalities from when they were children to when they are adults is very evident. We go from an Aida, who although she had insecurities but had a pure soul and a great desire to live, in her adulthood they take it away from her and she goes through an existential crisis, resentments and guilt. In the case of Matteo, who was a kind child, the bad guys incite him to violence, turning him into a murderer. Despite this, the author emphasizes the message she seeks to spread: Love can do anything and is even stronger than guilt, resentment and violence. Forgiveness is essential in their evolution both individually and as a couple. And the value of family also has its strong point in book.

It’s a touching story. Frankly, I loved the development of the main characters and their evolution as a couple. I got emotional and suffered with them. I was satisfied with the closure of the story and with the participation of the secondary characters that undoubtedly made my day while I was reading. The Cavaleri brothers won my heart from the first book in this series. Each one has a special place in my heart along with their partners. If you haven't read them, I highly recommend them and preferably in the correct order to avoid spoilers 🤭.

Matteo & Aida's love story is love at first sight but at that time they did not understand their feelings one of another cause they were children themselves. Watching their love grow & grow and their own personal nightmare stories will make you skin crawl...no spoilers

Thank god they had each other and a few other side characters that you will fall in lobe with too and I hope they survive this story with our hero & heroine...no spoilers

The Cavaleri Brothers reunion broken my heart cause we know the brothers thought that their brother was dead with the previous books then got hope he was alive...Seeing their little brother all grow up but forced to be a killer for the enemy. Thankfully Aida reminded him that Agnelo is a liar devil and take the chance with his brothers. I can not wait to see the Brothers develope their brother bound again and it is still there just got broken for awhile...

"You will survive. Your battle scars may be deep and they stillbleed, but you're a warrior. And warriors don't give up, no matter how many battles they have to face."
Wise words from a fellow warrior

I am so happy that their happy ending was not rushed. What Matteo & Aida went through to get that happy ending was cruel and it was about survival...no spoilers. I hope on the next book we get a update on their little Vaction thanks to big Bro Dom 🖤

Their is one character I LOVE to bits and my heart broke when their story was told...no spoilers

Action, suspense and undying love. A long awaited FAMILY REUNION that will get you a bit emotional especially when you know what the brother went through. Really recommend you read the previous books

*ARC received for an honest review*

The Devil’s Den is the fourth book in Cavaleri Brothers series and it’s about Matteo and Aida.
I knew this books will be my favorite in the series from the first chapter Childhood best friends to lovers, it’s always been you, forbidden love…all the tropes were fantastic. It was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved it

“Oh, Aida. You have to see the way he looks at you when we’re down there together. It’s like he can’t stop staring, even when you’re not staring back”

Aida and Matteo stole my heart with their story.Their moments when they were kids were so heartbreaking and beautiful. Their little promises to each other made my heart ache. Both of them have been through hell but they always had each other. They are soulmates. Their love and connection was so unique and tragic but they belonged together.

“I’ve loved you before I even knew what that word meant. And if it weren’t for you, I’d have died a thousand times over”

When I was reading about all the Cavaleri brothers being together again my heart was full of love. I can’t wait to read about their happy endings in the final book. It will be hard to say goodbye.

“The Cavaleri brothers,” Enzo adds. “We’re back, baby.”
