COLLECTING: Black Cat (2020) 8-10, Giant-Size Black Cat: Infinity Score #1
I have no idea what's up with the overall Infinity Stones storyline, but it was easy enough to get the gist and have fun with this last volume of Black Cat. As of right this minute, only issues 8-10 are listed on Goodreads. But actually, it also contains Giant-Size Black Cat: Infinity Score #1. <--this info is mostly for those of you who (like me) are reading this in single issues.
This time around BC is attempting to steal from Nick Fury. She's attempting to steal a supervillain from Nick Fury, to be exact. Why? Well, she (as always) has her reasons.
Ok, so this was a great volume to go out on as everything ends on a fun note that feels very Feliciaesque. Not sure what's next for Black Cat, but I'm hoping the next author will keep my excitement for this character up.
The Black Cat needs a miracle. Enter the current wielders of the Infinity Stones. For Felicia's next score she needs to get a few of the Stones together to increase their power enough to do the impossible. You probably want to check out Infinite Destinies before reading this. It's a collection of related annuals that introduce the current owners of the Infinity Stones. Jed MacKay's run on Black Cat has been a blast. If you like heist stories set in the Marvel Universe where the Black Cat has to continuously outwit more powerful foes, you should check this book out.
Another good outing for the Black Cat. Since I stopped taking this book seriously and accepted Felicia is one if the smartest people in the Marvel Universe I have really enjoyed this series.
Felicia is used to playing for high stakes but now she she to work either people who could destroy the city with a thought against Nick Fury and a member of the wannabe big three. What could snap her out of her grief and make her take a mission of this magnitude.
A good end end to the series so far. A fun comic book. I do hope it us nor the end of the series. The book finishes with a full page varient cover gallery and a couple of sketch pages.
Ending the year on a high note, we have the final volume of Jed MacKay's Black Cat, which features Felicia recruiting a team of Infinity Stone-wielding heroes and villains for one final caper.
The whole recruitment drive is fun, mostly because none of the characters actively want to work with Felicia and she has to beg, borrow, and bribe them to do her dirty work. Star is especially resistant, and runs her own counter-con at the same time. I love that MacKay uses all the stuff from Infinite Destinies to inform this arc, especially since most of it was inconsequential for the rest of the Marvel Universe - here though, it's integral storytelling, as it should be.
In true Black Cat fashion, this all leads to a bait-and-switch ending the likes of which I didn't think we'd see again after the whole Black Fox debacle in the previous arc. It's typical Black Cat, and it's executed in such a way that you'll never see it coming even if you think you've got it cracked.
Fabulous, through and through, just like the rest of this run. Such a shame to see it go.
This was a fun run, but alas, it doesn't end on a high, Felicia and especially her crew largely getting elbowed out of their own book by assorted Infinity Stone-empowered no-marks from a recent annuals event I'd already forgotten. You'd think comics would have learned their lesson about trying to batch-create new characters that way, given the only one who ever stuck was Hitman, and even he only worked when handled by his original creators.
3.5 Stars. The run of this Black Cat solo comic comes to an end here. The plot is pretty straightforward: Felicia recruits Star, Overtime, and Quantum for a fake reason (to help them use their infinity stone abilities to foil a Doctor Doom plot) but is actually getting them so that her mother can be healed of her cancer. The typical action, chasing and fighting, stuff is all here. While it is a simple story to understand, the art design and action push it over the top. Sorry to see this comic go... hopefully it will come back soon, with all new adventures for Felicia. Recommend.
Just a absolute blast to read, especially when you consider the wackiness of marvel as a whole, as Felicia assembles human infinity stones to complete her most selfish hiest, in style!
I went into work today planning on buying a Scarlet Witch graphic novel (and I did) but finding one called the Black Cat?? I had to!! I remember Felicia Hardy from watching the Spider-Man cartoon from the 90s, but I don't remember anything about her being the black cat! I don't know if that just didn't happen in the show or if I was just too young to remember. But I absolutely adored this graphic novel! It was so much fun, Felicia is a total bad ass and I love her wit!! The artwork is phenomenal and now I have to try and find the first five issues in this series!! I feel like I'm going to be doing a lot more graphic novel reviews this year!
It wasn't bad or anything just not as interesting as I hoped. It felt like Jed got the message this series would end on issue 10 and had to push forward quickly. It had nice moments, especially the finale with mom, really enjoyed that moment. But most felt quickly glanced over and the relationship subline was just okay.
Overall a decent but not great ending. A 3 out of 5.
This was a great heist/caper story and a fun way to close out the series.
I just have a few questions: 1. Infinity War happened before this, right? 2. What part did I miss that the stones aren't sentient here and now get Super Saiyan'd when in close proximity? 3. Are you sure this isn't a Catwoman story with some extra bells and whistles?

Fan-fucking-tastic end to MacKay’s run on Black Cat. Felicia’s cool arrogance and cockiness are exactly what this character needs to distinguish herself from all the awesome female characters in Marvel. Thanks Jed!
My rating partially reflects how I feel about the series as a whole. Black Cat by Jed Mackay has been so packed with heart, character, and unadulterated fun, it's hard not to love. I want to say that it is better than it has any right to be, but Felicia proves she has every right to be whatever she wants. Mackay's writing is so fluid and snappy, and feels so in pocket of what this character should be. The story develops consistently and is more concerted and engaging than I initially expected from issue #1. I never thought that I would need a Black Cat omnibus someday, but I do. I need it ASAP. The art was also spectacular throughout the run, with different artists switching in often, but all delivering in tune with the book.
Every volume has been a winner, and this one is no different, and is in fact one of the most touching. Considering the cat, Mackay lands firmly on his feet with this final volume. Felicia has interacted with so many parts of the Marvel Universe, pulled off so many incredible feats, I can't wait to see where she goes next. I'm just sad that it won't be Mackay guiding her anymore. A high recommend for all Marvel fans!
Collects Black Cat (2020) issues #8-10, and Giant-Size Black Cat: Infinity Score
This is the sixth collection in this "Black Cat" run, but the first five stories felt like one large story was being told. This new collection is either an interlude, or the thing that will kick off the next set of Black Cat stories. I believe that the title is on hiatus after this collection, but I'm not positive about that.
I liked the story, but knowing that the Infinity Gems would be involved, I expected it to be a little bigger/grander than it was. In the end, it may have actually been one of the smallest "Black Cat" stories. I don't mean that as a negative, I'm just saying that it was more grounded in her thievery and personal motivations.
SPOILERS:
Nick Fury Jr. is featured in this collection, as well as Star, Quantum, and Overtime.
Not exactly a sour ending to Jed MacKay's Black Cat run, but Infinity Score lacks the flair and fun of the previous volume, which probably should have been the final one. For reasons that will be revealed at the very end, Black Cat snags a trio of Infinity Stone powered D-list villains to help her pull a sorta-heist. The villains are those no-names from the Infinite Destinies event, so I hope you read all those Annuals!
The art is decent and the action is packed, but Infinity Score overall feels flat, like it's a forced tie-in to both Infinite Destinies and Heroes Reborn (which I never bothered to read). The conclusion leaves plenty of room for further Black Cat adventures, so I hope we'll see Felicia Hardy again!
To say the least, I wasn’t the most thrilled with this comic but I found myself enjoying the book at the same time. I assumed I would see the gauntlet with the 6 infinity stones but all I got were 3 people who held the power of a stone. Which felt dull since the cover was the most intriguing thing to me. Nonetheless, Black Cat is one of my favorite female characters in Marvel Comics and seeing her be selfish and not caring about others is so common, but it makes her unique. It also shows a soft spot she has for family, which may resonate with a lot of us. If you’re interesting in action and suspense, then this comic is recommended for sure.
So, I've enjoyed this Black Cat series. Maybe not all the editorial decisions in the collections but this volume wasn't very good. The reason for Felicia's plan, totally makes sense and that I loved. The actual characters involved, were abysmal. I just couldn't care less about any of them. S0 many of the things that I have enjoyed about this series were missing here. The art was again, very good. Overall, not the ending I was hoping for.
I love this way too much 🤤😍 The art is beautiful - as it should be when depicting the queen herself - and the story is thrilling. I just love how she's always getting herself into the craziest crap but staying one step ahead. The absolute most fun comics to read by a long shot. I'll never get enough of heist fiction 🤌🏻 Hopefully the conclusion to this story will be just as good as everything that's led up to it!
Oh no, Black Cat is attempting to hunt down the human-empowered infinity stone people so she can cure Monica Rappacinni (head of AIM) of cancer! Of course there's a con in it and the Infinity powered people are much worse criminals than her. I really liked the twist in this, though if you know Black Cat you know she'd never work for Doctor Doom or terrorists. It's a lot of fun also seeing Nick Fury Junior (The Sam Jackson version) at work.
I'll Take Manhattan was a nice ending to this surprisingly solid series. Infinity Score, however, feels like editorially mandated set-up to an even that never happened. Sadly, the story of Infinity Score does not deliver on the promise of the cover, which would have been a much more interesting story. In the end, this story was very, very skipable.
