This is a story about a monkey. A talking, wish granting, chain smoking monkey. He's been doing this for a long time, but doesn't quite remember where he came from, why he's a wish granting monkey, or even why is name is Monkey. There are lots of wish granting rules he has to follow. This can be a challenge sometimes, but he doesn't let it bother him as he goes about his life at a zoo near Poughkeepsie, New York. One day, though, his home and master are attacked and life is never the same again. He has to find a new master and sets off on an insane adventure of murder, love, revenge and publishing.
This black comedy from the mind of one Mr. Chadwick is not for the faint of heart; it's violent, profane, and more than a little twisted, but I couldn't stop reading. Reminiscent of the madcap, absurdist style of Dave Barry.
This is a book I won through Goodreads giveaways. I'd like to Thank Dave Chadwick for a signed copy. That always moves a book to the top of my reading list, unless it also has a note and signature, then that goes to the top passed the signed only books.
WOW! I'm trying to read books outside of my normal ganres and this definitely fit the bill. I've read some WTF kind of books, but I think this one may top the list. When I first started reading I really didn't think I was going to like it. Of course Julian is quite unlikeable!! The cussing I expected from Monkey; Its part of the description, but from other characters I wasn't sure. There is more cussing than I like, but it works for the novel. I went from thinking I wasn't going to like it to not wanting to put it down. Never once did I have a clue what might happen next and I wanted to know!
The characters are very real and you grow to love them or hate them accordingly. The places felt like I was there with them. The conversations sounded even familiar at times. I love the twist at the end because of Monkey's wish. The book ended well without a major let down or just an abrupt ending. I wouldn't mind knowing what happens next...

Monkey is a foul-mouthed, hilarious adventure that somehow tugs at your heartstrings. I'm calling it a Warm Hug of a Book because Chadwick said that would be a terrible descriptor on his True Blue Riffcast show. Seriously, though, well written and surprisingly moving.
This book kept my attention from the start to the finish. NO SPOILERS - you’ll love the monkey.. he’s more than just a character with a personality, he’ll get under your skin, in the best possible way. The writing is casual, easy to read, the plot twisty and turny like a twisty turny thing and the story engaging and pacey - the story never sags. Great fun read. I will be reading more of his books…for sure
An interesting read, deep and thought provoking at times but also humorous and entertaining. I started with no opinion about the author and low expectations for a price dropped kindle book. I was pleasantly surprised. It is engaging, outside of the box, and creative. The author has the ability to tie it all together in the end and make the outside of the box format work well. I will be looking for more titles by this author. 👍🏻
A barrel of laughs is what you will find in this book. Follow Monkey around as he gets into trouble, grants some wishes, and plays some Mario Bros. I loved every second of this hilarious adventure. Looking for a magical ride? Well, you found it.
This book is written for people who like a bizarre and strange story. I found this book is not appealing to me because as a main character you have monkey who lives and speaks like a human. This monkey is granting wishes such as murdering someone you did not like as granting your wish. I read this book and it was unsettling for myself as a reader. I am sure there are readers out there who would disagree with me.
