When a twelve-year-old girl is snatched from a local mall, the FBI will fight through flames to save her. Over the years as an FBI agent, Dylan Harris has rescued numerous women and girls from the world of trafficking, but when a teenage girl is kidnapped from the mall, he is convinced something else is going on. Conflicting evidence puts him at odds with others on his team—especially the newest team member, his brother’s ex-girlfriend, Jacq Sheppard.
As the case heats up, so does Dylan’s affection for Jacq. She's independent, adventurous, spunky. All the qualities he could hope for. But exactly the ones that his mother opposes. Living up to her standards is hard enough, especially in his brother's shadow, but tying his life to Jacq means existing as a disappointment to his mom forever.
Sparks fly and disastrous choices are made as Jacq and Dylan fight to save the vulnerable girl from human trafficking. When the situation explodes, Dylan must douse his fears and go into the flames.
You aren't going to want to miss this novel, the first in a four book (plus a prequel) series!
Great kick off to the Knoxville FBI series! The story has so much action and suspense, but relatable and interesting characters. A great pick on Kindle Unlimited.
Jacq Sheppard did not intend to work on a missing persons case on her very first day at the Knoxville FBI. She also would not have picked to be a single mom. Dylan can't seem to make his family happy. Sometimes we cannot get what we want.
This book involves rescuing others from human trafficking. As a mom, that topic can get to be a bit intense. I feel like the author did a good job of drawing the reader in without sharing unnecessary details.
The suspense is a strong element. Because Jacq and Dylan were connected once upon a time, their relationship feels like it is paced appropriately. I did like the fact that not everything is wrapped up in the end.
I read the prequel to this book (Revenge Ignited) in the Mistletoe and Murder collection. We were introduced to several characters that will now take center stage. That definitely made me want to read this series. I look forward to the next one. Liz Bradford has become another must read author for me.
I truly enjoyed this book and I have become a fan of Liz Bradford. Her books are filled with faith and what it means to trust God with your life. Dylan and Jacq are after human traffickers and trying to find a 12 year old girl that was kidnapped from a mall and also dodging someone who is trying to kill either Jacq or Dylan. Meanwhile they are falling hard for each other but they have problems to deal with in his family. Bradford has done a fantastic job of portraying the FBI team and I can wholeheartedly recommend her books.
If you look at the dates I “read” this book, you will notice it’s only two days … and NO, I did not read this book in two days … what I did do is stop reading it all together because it was just awful. It is a rare occasion that I don’t finish a book I’ve started, but (sorry, Beverly) it sucked. If I could have given it zero stars, I would have. The writing is completely juvenile (the characters are supposed to be professionals, and they are acting like junior high kids), and I honestly could not take every other sentence or paragraph being about the main characters (Dylan and Jacq) making googly eyes at each other … and when I read the sentence about Jacq turning to “goo” after Dylan smiled at her, that was it for me. I was done, done, done.
I thought I might be able to slog through it just to find out if the kidnapped girl was found and the human trafficking ring busted up, but no. I literally stopped caring. My advice on this one? Skip it. Don’t buy it. Move on - quickly!
Liz Bradford created a heart-wrenching and highly suspenseful story that grabbed me from the first page. It is an excellent read with some heavy topics, but they are handled with care and grace. “That’s why I don’t cover it up. It may be an ugly scar, but how could I cover up and hide a testament of God’s work in my life? It was in those days of pain and grief that He met me in a fresh and raw way. I wasn’t the same woman after that; my confidence in God only increased. So many people didn’t understand that. They expected me to yell at Him, to be angry that he took my husband away, but how could I be? God had rescued me. And a little piece of Sean lives on in Harper. I am so thankful for God’s faithfulness in carrying me through those impossible days.” I am eager to see what will come next!
I usually enjoy this author's books but I had two issues with it. First, I didn't care for a hero with "mommy issues"... I mean come on... An FBI agent hero afraid to tell his family he is dating his brother ex girlfriend?! Second, the author left another major story line unresolved. I ended a chapter and turned the page to read the exciting conclusion and it wasn't there!. How did the family react to Jacq? Did they rescue Daisy? What happens to her? Is it continued in the next book? I doubt I will continue the series.
I never read any of @Liz Bradford before, but she did a great job telling about Human trafficking. Human trafficking is everywhere and anyone can be a pimp. Thing we can do to help the victims: Watch for signs personally change, pray for the victims, give any and all tips you might have to the police and FBI, support rehabilitation center that help the victims of human trafficking
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. First, it addresses, without being preachy, how important faith is in the lives of the characters. Second, it emphasizes how rampant trafficking is in our society today. Maybe, after reading this, we can try to be more aware of the signs and even find ways to help. Third, it was just plain good! It was a clean, suspenseful read. I highly recommend it.
Liz Bradford may be my new favourite author. This book was fast paced and hard to put down. I love how she weaved Bible verses and application throughout the story. The story of Sex trafficking is so incredibly sad and hard to read but she did an excellent job of sharing this crime while weaving in the lives of Jacq and Dylan. Looking forward to the next book and what may happen to Morgan.
Great story that has everything, love, hate, thrills and chills, mystery where good wins over bad and the good guy and gal win each other. They both belong to a FBI unit that deals with exploitation such as the girls the rescued from trafficking. Nice clean book, good read for all ages (that are old enough to be made aware of sex trafficking and other types of exploitation.
I liked the book pretty well until the end. The end left me feeling very unresolved.. There is a lot left unanswered..I felt like there was a chapter or more missing. Also, I should know better and follow my own rules, don't start a series that isn't complete. I hate waiting on the next book, especially if that particular author is not very fast at releasing books..
A wonderful romantic suspense novel from a new-to-me author! Liz Bradford tackles difficult topics while also developing amazing chemistry between the hero and heroine. I look forward to reading more from this author!
I purchased a copy of this book and was under no obligation to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine.
This was unbelievably inspirational and beautiful story of finding courage facing a new beginning in a new life for one young woman who is easing a child, the characters in this story were interesting and intriguing, lots of suspense and drama but this amazing faith based story also has love and hope.
I enjoy reading the romance and mystery. This one kept me reading throughput the entire book. I loved how two or three things were happening simultaneously; the new FBI AGENT trying to adapt to a well established unit, the mystery of missing girls, the mystery of family dynamics and dealing with human trafficking.
Powerful story about believers and nonbelievers and the destructive effects of fear.
Amazing theme about fear and it's effects while exploring regret and feelings of worthlessness. Of course there's a romance cause Liz is a romantic. I read this novel in one sitting after work. Hope I wake up on time.
I really enjoyed the book as long as I kept telling myself "this isn't how real FBI agents work." It truly was a fast romance and there is a lot of action as they follow clues to save young girls from scum of the earth traffickers. I hope the story of some of the women will continue in the next book in the series.
I'm not impressed this story isn't a stand alone and has a lot unfinished and the one of importance is the crooked cop/agent. That seems to be forgotten for now. I'm pretty sure I know who it is so I won't be reading any more as I found I was skipping over a lot of parts, it wasn't a page turner for me.
I wanted to give 3-1/2 stars but settled for 4. Very abrupt ending which I disliked a lot. This book had potential but I just found that most law enforcement tend to be a bit more reserved. Too much “giggling”.
This was a very good book that I enjoyed reading. I felt that the Christian message was very evident throughout the book. I really can’t wait to read the next book in the series as I felt it really left me hangin!
I just love how Liz Bradford weaves scriptures through the story line. Listening to your heart is one thing but listening to what God put on your heart can be totally different!
This book was great! Now bring on Book 2!! The characters are truly remarkable. I love Liz Bradford and her writing! Her faith is so real and you feel His presence in her writings!!
Love the fact that the story includes Christians in a tough profession who are not afraid to share their faith. Hard to put down as they relentlessly tried to rescue an innocent young girl. Definitely a page turner.
MRS. Bradord's books seem to always pull me in and i can't stop reading them until i'm done.I appreciate her focus on faith and family in her stories plus telling a rwally good story.
Five stars because it is the highest rated. C If you're into cops and robbers them you are is the right place. This is the first book I've read for Liz Bradford to tell the truth I thought it was Christy Barritt. Looking forward to book two in this series.
Suspenseful story about a kidnap case and the race to find the girl. I really liked the characters although there were some distracting timeline inconsistencies. There are some very intense situations with human trafficking so it may be best for those over 18.
Saving lives and finding love. This story about trafficking young girls is so sad. The agents do a wonderful job of rescuing these unfortunate girls who are put into the life of prostitusion.
