We've all been through that one shitty break-up. The one that breaks your heart, turning you into a sobbing, soggy mess. Where you drink so much you accidentally summon a demon.
No? Just Elsie?
When Elsie decides to get over a bad break-up with a small fire pit and a large bottle of vodka, the last thing she expects is to summon the sexy as hell demon, Ukobach. He of the Impressive D. A tattooed devil with large horns and an even larger... array of tattoos.
The Inferior Demon of Fried Food and Fireworks, Ukobach intends to take his few days of freedom in the mortal realm and live a little. But his summoner has big, beautiful eyes and kind of sexy thighs, and suddenly she doesn't need a summoning circle to keep him trapped at her side.
But both Ukobach and Elsie want to escape from their lives. Cue an epic road trip to the Texas State Fair, with a side order of revenge and deep fried food. Let the chaos commence.
This novella is full of belly laughs and sexy times. The author does not recommend drinking vodka or starting fires to appease heartache. She does recommend deep fried Oreos, they make everything better.
When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre. Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer. Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?
Ok, It was nice. And fluffy(?). And sweet(?). Overall a nice reading, the novella was well written for the genre. I loved the demonology aspect from the horns to the fire 🔥 Loved the hot tub bit. The only thing missing -that isn't allowing me to give this the 4° star- is... It was too sweet. I expected something more...hardcore (?) from a demon story...
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• : ̗̀➛Pre-read 50 pages of a hot fire demon paranormal romance novella? Just the hour (?) of fun I was craving ✨👀❤️🔥
This novella is hilarious. It starts with a very drunken and tearful Elsie summoning a demon, Ukobach, by accident. She caught her boyfriend cheating on her with her boss and she quit her job as a result. She decided alcohol poisoning was the way forward, not realising she would be getting a delicious demon when she was too drunk to think, as a result.
Ukobach turns out to be the demon of fried foods and fireworks so they decide to go to the Texas State Fair to live large for the few days Ukobach is allowed out of hell.
This novella will have you laugh snorting, so don’t read it in public. It’s got some sexy times, but it’s mainly about the laughs and the feels as Elsie and Ukobach bond on their road trip.
This novella is the perfect bite-sized portion of fun for when you want a brief escape from reality. Highly recommended.
“But the Demon, for whatever reason, ran his hand around my hip and across my stomach, pulling me tight against his chest. He put his lips next to my ear. “Can I decapitate this one?”
This was such a fun, sweet, spicy demon romance. Elsie is dealing with a messy breakup and decides to start a fire in her apartment while drunk on vodka. When a sexy demon appears she has no idea what to do or think. Ukobach is a fire demon and becomes very interested in the human who summoned him. After offering to “take care of” Elsie’s ex, they decide to go to the Texas State Fair. Things heat up between the two and it is a good time. This was a super short novella but it was funny and had a few hot scenes.
Have you ever been so angry and drunk that you don't even know what you're saying or doing, you're just screaming out slurs? Well that's exactly what happened to Elsie when she inadvertently summons a very naked fire demon to her living room. Given a few days before he must return to hell, what devilish antics will those hours behold?
Great character development for a short story. It’s easy to quickly become attached to the relationship that forms between Elsie and Ukobach. By the time I are nearing the last few pages my anxiety was high and emotions raw.
✨ First read this story when it was published in the limited-edition anthology Flame’s Embrace under the same name.
Elsie caught her boyfriend with her boss. In a fit she decided to drink most of the vodka and then use a good splash as lighter fluid for her bye bye boyfriend bonfire. Her slurred rants and burnt offerings wind up with decidedly different results than she'd planned. Now her sloshed self is staring at a hot fire demon who's offering to dismember the ex.
Spoilers ahead. This was hysterical, sweet and far too short. Sober Elsie decides rather than sulk, she'll help Uko have a good time until he's recalled. Texas State Fair here they come. While the interactions we see are adorable, this has the makings of being a fun full book with just a little padding. I'd have loved to see him compete for prizes, and probably, ok definitely, threaten the booth runners. His expressions when devouring various fair foods would have been glorious. With its tie ins it would be wonderful to see this re-released as an expanded version. Please? Please let us have more time with the demon of fried food and fireworks.
Cute fluffy little story with no drama. Less than an hour read and it was sweet and fun with a touch of steaminess. My favorite kind of story.
Elsie catches her boyfriend banging her boss and goes home and gets drunk. Apparently during her drunken slurring she accidentally says the right words to summon a demon from Hell. We know all about Hell, thanks to the Hell’s Redemption Series, and we even get a quick visit from Rella and 2 of her gargoyles from Unrepentant.
Uko the demon knows he’s on limited time before Hell’s Gargoyles come and drag him back. He and Elsie make the most of their time together (approx. 48 hours). They drive to the state fair in Texas and even spend a romantic night in Memphis TN on the way. By the time Uko has to leave, he and Elsie have fallen for each other and I even shed a quick tear when they had to say goodbye.
I’m making my way through all of Grace McGinty’s series and this was on the reading list after Hells Redemption/ Serendipity Series. This book is a cute novella/ bonus but it really needs a smidgen more at the end. We can make an assumption that Uko and Elsie get together (long term/ more than 48 hours) but it’s not at all clear. Even a few more sentences to clarify would have been awesome. Is he able to stay on Earth? Does she have to move to Hell? How long do they have together? Still a satisfying short story and I’m off to read more Grace McGinty….
Frank continued to look between us like he was trying to do the mental arithmetic where you added my thigh dimples to the Demon’s well-defined abs and was beginning to realize that something didn’t add up. But the Demon, for whatever reason, ran his hand around my hip and across my stomach, pulling me tight against his chest. He put his lips next to my ear. “Can I decapitate this one?”
I freaken loved this book SO MUCH. I wish it had been a full length book instead of a novella. And it doesn't seem like the author has more books in this same world. Very sad.
I love demon books....and funny demon books?! YESSS. Sign me up. So much good humor and just fun fun. And sexy of course. Them going to the Texas State fair for fried food was hilarious.
If anyone knows anymore books similar to this in tone with Demons please let me know! I need more of this in my life. There's nothing quite like a demon joking about killing your enemies for you. Rwar.
“That was fun. Do you have any other ex-boyfriends we should set on fire?”
I mean, it's a bit ridiculous that we have to right an essay using at least 20 words per the Zon's request for this review when all you can and want to say is that you absolutely enjoyed tf out if this short and sweet novella. I could've enjoyed even more of Uko and Elsie.
The novella was a very quick short read with an HEA ending. It was a fun and refreshing story, and I could tell it was a spin-off story from another major series of the author - the Redeemables I believe since there were mentions of Rella and Gargoyles. My main dislike was that the FMC had been a little too liberal with her money IMO for someone who had just quit her job.
Ok I really didn't think I could fall for characters in just 38 pages but go figure, Grace Mcginty is a miracle worker. This was such a sweet little novella about a woman who doesn't have much confidence and the demon who showed her how amazing she is.
After a breakup and too much to drink, Elsie summons a demon—Ukobach. The two don't have much time together as someone will come and pick him up, because a demon can't be left alone on earth. However, they have a few days together, and they decide to road trip to a funfair and enjoy their time together.
It was a cute romance story, with everything happening quickly. It was just left unknown how Ukobach got the permission that he needed for Elsie.
Amazing read. This was a short story just made to tease the tastebuds and get you missing your favourite characters and making you want to dive back into these books and do a complete Reread. Elsie is experiencing the worst kind of pain, Her boyfriend has cheated on her leaving her alone and wait not completely alone she finds herself with a bottle of vodka and a bucket of bad decisions and burning photos. Brilliant read. I cant wait to dive back into this world.
OMG! How cute and WHHHHHHYYYYY so short. Noooooo!!!!
This is truly a great book for any romance and sci-fi lover. It's cute, funny, direct, to the point, short, steamy, and despite it's brief page count, well developed.
Grace! Please give us an elongated version of this book, or maybe just an extension book. This couple is too cute for words.
--Rating - 5 stars - quick to the point, sexy, steamy, and funny --Steam - 4 stars - not prevalent throughout the entire story, but the chemistry building is lovely and you'll be begging for more once they collide. --Storyline - 5 stars - despite it's brevity, it's well developed and I want more! --Plot Twists - 2 stars - not needed due to the length, but could totally be added for more pages and to further the story. --Emotional Pull - 4 stars - surprisingly strong! --Writing - 5 stars - very comfortable to read. --Denouement - 3 stars - definitely an HEA but much is left to the imagination. --Cliffhanger? -technically no --HEA? - absolutely!
This is really a short story and not a novella, and it's too short to really do much. The ending is very abrupt and I would have wanted to know 1) how that was managed and 2) what are the implications?
I thought the transference of the 'tattoo' imp was interesting but it didn't seem to do anything. I wish it meant that they were bound in some way and perhaps gave them some way of feeling each other's emotions or communicating telepathically or something like that. It was a cute thing but ultimately useless.
Because the story was written in first person entirely from Elsie's POV, we don't get to know how Uko feels, which made the story lacking because I couldn't understand why he was drawn to her or what made her attractive to him (especially as she is drunk when he appears and then proceeds to puke her guts out, and then generally morose over her breakup and her two-timing ex). It's my first read from McGinty, who is well-known for her omegaverse book, Manix (I see it being recommended everywhere in my Facebook reading groups!), but I sometimes like to read novellas to get a taste of an author's writing before diving into their actual books. Unfortunately, this taste of McGinty's writing wasn't impressive, but I might still try one of her series. I'm on the fence about trying Manix because it has mpreg and that's just a little too out there for me.
I loved that story! It was so cute, but had many hilarious moments too! Unfortunately, it was a short journey. I wished I could have read more. And some explanation at the end or epilogue how they live their life together.
But otherwise, it was perfect! I have read some books of Grace McGinty before. So, she already is one of my favorite authors. But I still haven't read all of her books. So, I didn't know the other characters. But I looked them up, and figured they belong to one of the series I haven't read. I definitely will read that one, too.
But in general, I would love to read more along that here. So adorably perfect with some spice in it! Totally recommend this!
This was the perfect little 2am read. It's so funny. Elsie gets drunk and accidentally summons a sexy naked demon. I'm not a drinker but for a minute there I did contemplate going for the bottle and then drunk cussing everyone I know to see if I'd get lucky and abduct Ukobach. Heck he's got 300 brothers so there has to be a few of them that are equally gorgeous and umm hung.. I wouldn't be overly picky. I really liked seeing a few of our hellions from past books! It just made it that much better.
let’s summon the demon of fireworks and fried food again
“Uh. No. One, my name is Elsie. Me Elsie, you Uko. Two, I’m going to bed alone.” That last bit was for Uko and my errant vagina, who suddenly perked up at the idea of going to bed with the anaconda.”
This novella had me laughing from the start. I loved it. I’m hoping Grace visits them again because I’d love more of Ukos’ humor.
